Alton Canal History & Walk (Uttoxeter Canal)

Join me as I go to see what's left of the Canal that once passed through the village of Alton in Staffordshire (part of the Uttoxeter Canal). Along the walk and exploration I will explain parts of the history of the canal in this area. The beautiful village of Alton and its surrounding area rarely disappoints :)

I'm glad I found this video. I did this walk with my dad earlier this week but we went from my home in Alton up to Toothill rock, down to Dimmingsdale and on to the old railway track at Lords Bridge. We went up to Inas rock because my dad wanted to revisit the spot where as a kid with 3 mates (they were after birds eggs) they saw a strange man in Victorian clothing and a top hat watching them from amongst the bushes. They all saw him and they ran like hell my dad says. This was mid 1950s when my dad was 10 or 11ish. He's 78 now and was up and down them slopes like a bloody mountain goat 😂

Yeah, it's amazing! I wish I lived a little bit closer. I'd never been down as far as the weir before so that was even new for me. Thanks for watching, Adam :)

Oh wow! As a brummie girl living in London but who used to go to Alton towers all the time, I LOVED this! You were right btw, that is an old station building behind the mill - I had to Google it after you said because I was too curious. I've never seen Ina's rock before but it's huge! I wonder what's happened there over the centuries. I need to find out if any archaelogical work was ever done around the site of slain hollow and if so, what they found. I also really loved the little section of the canal that's been restored slightly. The lock-bench is such a lovely idea. I wonder if those round-ish stones along the edge of the footpath nearby used to be part of the canal structure and theyve been repurposed now :) Thank you so much for making this, it's been so relaxing to listen and learn ❤

Thanks for your lovely comments! I'm from Oldbury, near Dudley. Let me know if you find anything extra out about Ina's Rock. I see you already watched my old video about it. It's good fun researching and making these videos, so it's good to have nice feedback about them. I'm really glad that you enjoyed it. I have another channel here where I explore other places around the country and do similar commentaries if you found it relaxing haha: kzread.info/dron/SpQzdLrpPx7HHqs5M1aONg.html (AdamExploresBritain) Thanks for watching, Adam :)
