Alton Brown reviews Amazon's dumbest kitchen gadgets

Ғылым және технология

Celebrity chef and Thyme Lord Alton Brown is no fan of "unitaskers" -- kitchen gadgets with only one purpose. But maybe these Amazon offerings aren't so bad.

Alton is the reason I got into cooking school. He was like the Bill Nye of food. He explained cooking in a way I understood, oddly enough if you think about cooking like chemistry, it is *A LOT* more easy to think about and makes it a lot less complicated. I got one more semester before I graduate, and I'm thanking Alton the whole time.

Extremely late reply, but exactly. Meanwhile my garlic press is in constant use because I apparently like to have bad breath on a regular basis and it works substantially better at speeding up the entire getting-cloves-of-garlic-into-tiny-bits-and-into-a-pan/bowl process than anything else in my kitchen (and keeps the reek contained to its designated device, instead of rendering a food processor garlicky until it can be properly washed). Single use tools are amazing when they're genuinely the right tool for the job and it's a job the things you cook on a regular basis require.

Literally half of buzzfeed is commercials "americans try british snack" "Irish try american beer" etc. The other half of buzzfeed is garbage manufactured to divide the country with articles like "What every man should work on when interacting with animals" or "why every white man should quit their job"

Good Eats teaches the difference between following a recipe and knowing how to cook. When you know how to cook, you can often substitute ingredients the dish calls for that you might not have on hand with other ingredients that work just as well or better. That's why it is such a great show.

My feelings about certain unitaskers, like fancy produce peelers and corers, is to only buy them if you are going to use them A LOT. Like, buy a strawberry corer if you make a bath tub's worth of strawberry jam every year, or an avocado cutter if you are on some weird avocado diet.

Meghan Hirsh also some of them, especially the ones that help with slicing, handling, timing, etc can be very helpful for people with disabilities.
