Many thanks for your videos! On my 2012 xc60 I did not have to disassemble anything at all. I just removed the oil filter cap with the filter to have little more space and then disconnected and unscrewed the alternator, put a wooden block under the alternator so the pulley was sticking upwards between all the hoses and managed to change the pulley without having to take the alternator out completely, which I can not imagine doing on my car. I had to buy the tool of course (6EUR approximately). Thanks for all the instructions!
My generator belt snapped on my xc60 '14, this video showed me exactly how to mount a new one! Thank you. Car is due for a service on monday and ill get my mechanic to replace both pulley and belt again.
Another great video, I enjoyed watching it. I’ve just bought my XC70 after studying your videos, it’s a 2008 D5 UK car. I hope you upload more diesel videos in the future. Thanks so much for the time & effort you put into these videos.
Your video is very clear and informative. Filming techniques when zoom in / out or panning are very stable and professional. I really enjoy watching you two working together on the project. Thank you for sharing and educating us (the DIYs).💚
Best tutorial ever needed. Replaced my freewheel pulley on my alternator an Sunday. I had no worries getting the alternator out through my engine bay (V70 D5). I fpunf it easiest to turn the alternator to have the pulley pointing up anf the two lower mounting tabs pointing to the left. Then carefully pull it up. Plops straight out. But great videos!
My dealer Volvo service has recognised it as an A/C compressor problem and offered me exchange that part for 800$. Thanks for uploading it in the right time and saving my money. Got new SKF pulley wheel and no irritating sound anymore.
Thank you for your great video! I did the exact same thing today. No more noisy rattle from my XC70 now!! The old pulley was completely solid, no more movement!! Did the two belts and tensioner pulley too. The silence is amazing. :)
Just done this job on my D5 and was able to get the alternator out without removing the air duct from the filter, one less thing to do. My pulley was on really solid, it took a long bar to get it off. Thanks to you guys for your clip :-)
Amazing, I was about to get it done as well, my S80 MY2012 has 131k km on the clock, it is always better to change the pulley along with the alternator belt when the latter starts to fall apart! Damn, I bought the Volvo pulley, did not know INA was making it. Thanks for the video !
Another great video from this man, the part is on ebay £40.00 and the tool Laser number 3307 from Amazon £12.95, ALL GODD STUFF
your videos are always helpfull and full of honesty.
You're the man! Thanks and keep them coming. I always look forward to them!
This was instrumental in my changing of the Brushes on my Alternator 🙏 truly thanks so much!
Funny that you upload this video now, I just changed the pulley on my -07 S80 D5 2 weeks ago. It locked up completely and made a very deep strange noise
Thanks for sharing. This will definitely help replacing the pulley. Keep up the good work.
Thank You for a nice a detailed video. I just changed alternator on my V60/2014 D3 - same setup as this. Good tips!
Thank you for taking the time to share this, much appreciated!
Very instructive I 've changed it on Volvo garage yesterday for 1500€ after broken belt on the highway Mine is xc70 2011 D5 205 Hwith 350 000 kms Thanks you for your videos Friendly from France Angers Juan
Great video guys, good close ups of the necessary details. I had a bit of difficulty trying to fit a new belt. Seems a really ill considered design. As you said in the video, you definitely need two pairs of hands to complete the task. I look forward to a cambelt and water pump video. Mine is due in the next couple of months 🙄
Amazing detailed video. Thanks so much, saved me a lot of time. Keep up the good work 😀
I´ve saved thousends watching your channel!!!
Great video, thanks. Big thumbs up for your friend's T-shirt!!
Super vidéo thanks from France
Very helpful, save me a lot of time. Thank You !!!
Great video as always!!!
I was wondering how to get to that T60 torx, thanks very much now I can replace my belt!
Great thanks for this video instruction of this job. I do like all your videos of this Volvo XC70 modell same as mine 👍😀😀🥂🥂. All your videos are perfect in HD and perfectly explained. Keep on doing this job. Great thanks in advance 👊👊👊👍👍👌👌🥂🥂🥂 Best regards from 🇸🇪🇸🇪🇸🇪 Volvo home country

Hello Sweden!
I like how you mention the 85mm to keep the geeks quitet, and then just tighten it as almost every pro technician and DIY'er would do haha
Maybe a tip! To pull out the alternator its a small effort to dismantle the cooling unit after the radiator. The vent unit is hanging in on de front and secured by 2 clips and pulled out simple.
The most informative Volvo channel! Keep it up and thank u!!
very good film and information :)
Great Very helpful I will do it as this video shows Thanks
Many thanks, I had the same problem on my V60. Maybe one tip. It isn't necessary to remove the alternator from the engine room. Its enough after the unsrewing rotate 90 degrees. So you can remove the pulley. So I skipped the complicated part with the pipes.
Very good instructionvideo!
Replacing the alternator pulley on my 2014 XC60 due to an incremental squeal & battery charging issue which I thought was due to a bad tension pulley since I had this same issue on my 05 Porsche Boxster. When I pulled everything apart I found that the clutch in the pulley has failed at 49,000 miles. When I took the cap off of the old one it was filled with a dark sticky substance, probably the old grease. There is a white plastic sealing ring on the front of the new one and this was completely gone/dissolved on the old one! I bought the new one from FCP as part of there accessory belt/tensioner refresh kit. I almost only purchased the belt with the tensioner pulley & pulley wheel separately because I had read on a few forums and video comments that the alternator pulley generally fails at much higher mileage. Since it was a $130 part I didn't want to really spend the cash on something I didn't need. Then I did more research and found that replacement of the pulley is part of Volvo regular maintenance. I'm so GLAD I bought the kit with the pulley!!! Turns out the tensioner & auxiliary wheels were fine and had no issues but the pulley was done for!! If your working on an XC60 you should do the recommended service since it's a bit of work to get everything apart to do the job. Volvosweden thanks for the video it was very useful in helping me get the pulley off.
Another great video from this man, would it be possible to swing alternator upwards after removing the lower 2 bolts? saving removing the alternator then insert tool to remove pulley? would be interested to hear any comments.
Great video es always!
You are the man dude.
Nice video. Better take off water line. I have also checked alternator brushes, commutator and replaced bearrings.
Evgeny you’re awesome
I really enjoy your videos. They help me a lot with fixing my 2008 xc70. Thanks so much. I want to ask your favor. I need to replace serpentine belt. But I couldn’t find diagram. Can You tell me where to go to get one?
Fantastic Video...
Great video! Thanks
THANK YOU VERY EDUCATIVE.
Thx ! Love your videos! Can u tell me how high torque should be when replacing tensioner pulley screw on sepentin belt ? And on Flywheel of Generator ??? Thx ahead
Nice video
Replaced mine this year too, it was shot as hell. These freewheels should be considered to be within a service after atleast 7years of use.

Maybe althou the new engines doesnt have freewheels. It has a damper in the flywheelpulley instead but its not a freewheel only a damper.
Super video chanell for volvo xc 70 fans 👍
Much easy if you remove the oil filter house to get out the alternator. I sort already the freewhel clutch replacement. Mine was locked and in idle had a drive belt tensioner vibrations.
I'm thinking about replacing the whole alternator rather than just the faulty pulley. Its a small extra cost for piece of mind of having a new alternator.
Great video as always. Wouldn't removing the radiator fan have made a bit more room? Only asking as it's easy to remove if it helps.

I'm getting some noise but not sure if it's from alternator pulley or another one. I replaced serpentine belt and tensioner but noise is still there. Any thoughts?
Great video as always! Please make another video of changing the Auxiliary Drive Belt Set With Tensioner (both inner and outer). Thank you!
Salutare vreau sa schimb alternatirul,14 volti 180 amperi este ok? Motor 2.4 d5 151 kw 205 cp
Неделю как сам поменял муфту. Генератор не вытаскивал,гайковертом открутил. На много проще. 😃
Nice job and video, can you tell where to by the VIDA you use. Is the installation easy?
@volvosweden

Vida is available on ebay. Installation depends on your Windows. Hard to tell if you will experience difficulties in installation
My engine xc60 2.4D is roaring from the alternator area when I reach 1000rpm and nothing is heard at idle or when I go above 1000rpm. Sounds like plastic rattling against metal. What could it be?
Excellent video.Brilliant English skills! Is it worth changing the tensioner as well?

Could I just replace this with the regular style pulley alternator?

Does this part number will fit s80 2010 2.5t?
+volvosweeden. Just done my 120,000km service on Volvo XC60 2009 T6. Only things I haven't done yet are replacing the serpentine belt and the external fuel filter. Could you please do videos on these. Looking at your videos, your engine layout is pretty much identical to my car (except mines right hand drive). I'm pretty sure I know where the fuel filter goes but it looks like you have to pull off a bunch of panels on the bottom of the car. As for the serpentine belt, looks like a big job. I think you have to remove a lot of things from the right side of the engine bay. Looks like I'll have to take out: air box, battery, A/C compressor and maybe even some more stuff further back in the engine.

If you have the same car with same engine it will be the same to do this work. The car is still the same as left hand drive so you should just follow this.
where do you get the service manual? I would love that book
I am wondering if such bad pulley impacted your friend battery?
Hi I have volvo xc 60 2014 D4 2.0 litre. The parts will be same like yours?
how do you remove the second accessory belt?
What is a good replacement alternator, any suggestions anyone?
Is this video mirrored??? We confused the direction and we were tightening instead of loosening… Thanks anyway for the video!!!
Is the Force tool TX 50?
I thought the D4 unit was a 4cylinder Diesel engine, still mystified by the different configurations
I just spent $2000 at birchwood for new alternator!!
I changed the pulley on the alternator without actually removing the alternator... it can be done better to change the whole alternator... changing just the pulley is a temporary solution v70 drive e

Remind me not to do this ever, why is there a clutch on a alternator?????????????
@admiralfloofz658

Dieselengines need it because of the jerking motion of it rotating, it will rip the belt off eventually if the freewheel break.
Thanks, great vid! Have the same issue on my 2014 V70 D3 with the D5204T7, has just 104000km on it, practically the same engine. First I thought it was the bearings or the mechanical pulley. Also there seems to be a similar issue with the AC compressor giving you this noise, the clutch I believe: kzread.info/dash/bejne/g3agtquqj7nKgJc.html and this kzread.info/dash/bejne/Y4aY16ijaMWefsY.html
Блин я английский не понимаю.
Big mechanic . . It take 30 min to remove a wiring plug + he dont know to use the tools :)))
sorry but INA sucks and what a brand makes for the manufactor is not the same as the aftermarket. So INA is not INA.

So you're telling me that they make 2 different quality of pulley in the same factory? No way they are the same part in a different box. Dont be stupid.

Numbers are the same. checked it today. Original Volvo and Ina have the exact same number on it.
It's not a generator. It's an alternator. There's a big difference.

Maybe it translates to him better or hes used to saying generator. Not the same but they do the same job just one is driving the alternator to give power and the other is being driven for power.
