I love at 2:11 where he leans back, takes a breath, and delves down into this deep note, and peppers it with harmonics on top. I keep rewinding and watching it over again.

That's how I did it as well; Abbath does it to a minor degree as well, but originally I started out trying to imitate war trumpets with a similar sound. Amyr Akchin is amazing, his sound is entrancing.

Wow, this is so cool. I think Ken Watanabe does this a little bit in the Last Samurai, when he's in his ancestors' temple. His voice gets this really low vibratey sound to it, and I never knew how to categorize it - but I guess it's sort of throat singing. Thanks for posting this!

Replying to myself sucks, I know but I just wanted to add that I'm a choral singer and I've sung Carmina Burana in the royal albert hall etc. This sort of thing fascinates me and I'm looking forward to having a go at throat singing at some stage.

Yeah! That's totally right on, and the deeper areas actually produce the "groaning" sound. I try to make the harmonics by moving my tongue back and forth in my mouth and opening and closing my mouth. It takes a bit of practice. The whistling type noise is by whistling and humming at the same time, but I can't quite get the high notes.

@mizututi I think I know what you mean with this music. It speaks to a primal part in all of us. Or I hope it does anyway: it does to me. This is a wonderful piece and an example of what we need to preserve in the times to come.

The singing/throat tones work amazingly well together with the accordion, an instrument I don't usually like, here. I really like this. Rather than the aim being the demonstration of throat singing which most of the videos on that subject are on youtube this is much more an actual song and tradition. Or that's what it seems like to me :) Tbh I just really like the first three quarters of this video, heh
