    Auto parts catalogs have come a long way. Quadratec really impressed me with their knowledge of jeep parts assembly and compatibility. These videos and their online question and answer responses are impressive with their accuracy and detail. A long way since the 80s when we'd buy auto part catalogs from magazine stand at supermarket to browse while at home and school.

    I have the X209-WRA-JK and it is awesome. This is definitely more complex of an install, but your video makes it very easy to understand how do it. Very nicely done! Love all the comments about how it's so expensive considering this is the unit for the most expensive vehicles that Jeep makes. If you can't afford to add on to your Wrangler, then you can't afford a Wrangler.

    Just finished installing this unit myself in my 2021 gladiator and here are my pros/cons: CONS - This video makes the wiring management look very simple, but really the spaces are VERY tight and quite hard to successfully fish wires to the steering column (all while cutting up my fingers from the metal frames). This will take some skill to manage all of the "rat nests" and make it neat. - Going from a stock 7in to this 9in alpine made my backup camera picture quality go down. It's just a tad more blurry but it's still good in my opinion. I also lost my hitch zooming option on my backup camera that was exclusive to Jeep's trailer tow package - My on-screen display setting that shows the model of the vehicle (doors being open, etc) is literally a car diagram, not a jeep. Plus I have a gladiator so it's even extra weird for me looking at a car instead. PROS -Literally everything else! All of the audio, navigation, climate controls, etc are absolutely amazing compared to the 7in stock radio.

    I just did the install today and it took me about 8hrs. I moved pretty slow and methodical and followed the video. The install is easy but snaking wires and those damn brackets by the steering column took forever. Had the 5” radio in a sport s max tow. One thing to note is the on screen climate control only displays the settings and must be manually changed for my model. Factory alpine speaker upgrade sounds much better with clean power from the new head unit. Don’t know why Jeep offers the alpine speaker upgrade with the 5” head unit.

    Hey Rob! Does this still show offroad pages and the selectable tire fill alert?

  • @rob_quadratec

    @rob_quadratec

    4 жыл бұрын

    This still retains all the factory settings like the selectable tire fill alert. The offroad pages are a feature specific to the 8.4, however, the X409 has vehicle info screen with tire pressure, and customizable gauges as well as built in Off Road Navigation with inclinometers, coordinate display and a breadcrumb record feature to get you back home. I think it's way more useful than the offroad pages in the 8.4". Plus you still have access to the offroad screens in the center of the gauge cluster for lockers, sway bar, 4wd, etc.

    Yeah, how good is the offroad mode on your Galaxy? How about the IPX rating? How about the steering wheel controls? How legal is it where you are to play with a tablet while driving vs using something built into your dash? How well does it attach to an Alpine amp and sub? You really aren't talking about apples to apples there.

If I cant get a sport with LEDS and the 8.4” radio, I’ll get this radio and upgrade the lighting so that’s another $5Gs with speakers. Basically I’m paying $40k for the Jeep and $30k for the parts. Matt Ferguson sorry a V8 swap is out of my budget lol. I’m getting all the torque I could want for $4k extra. That I can swing. As far as all that money I’ve gone without a Jeep for over 10 years and have just “normal” vehicles so I’ve saved all that fun money up and I figure if a rubicon can sticker for $62 maxed out with a V6 and a $66k with the diesel, I can spend an extra $5- $8 and have a truck that goes anywhere I feel like steering it on 40s. I turn 40 next year and I’m still not married so that also makes something like this a lot more feasible. It’s my last ICE vehicle so I’m planning to keep it till rust takes it away or I can no longer climb into it. I can actually also justify the truck and write it off as I recently purchased land zoned for agriculture and I intend to produce a few things in small quantities. That opens up savings on red diesel which further slightly reduces the cost. The most exciting part to me is that I am building a container home on the land and it will be entirely off grid and it’s rugged so a Jeep on 40s isn’t unreasonable. I’d still probably rather have a couple kids at this point but I’m trying to take advantage of low overhead life as long as possible lol TMI rant over
