I think matching with the color would be great. That is if you have a Punk'n, Mojito, Bikini, or Hella Yella. But, if you have a darker color Jeep, I would say to go with whatever accent color you are going to use as a theme.

I ordered 2 cans of Firecracker Red from the dealer today, they're 5oz cans. Do ya think that'll be enough to paint what you did? Also, was it necessary to remove the steering wheel to paint that trim? What tools were needed for that? - Thank you

@@jpmcnown1 Yes that should be enough, if you just want to paint the dash you will not need to remove the steering wheel. But if you want to paint the wheel you will need a 10mm socket to pull off two bolts, one on each side under a plastic cover, then a larger socket i'm forgetting the size the pull the column bolt. The wheel will come apart with various smaller torx bits and small sockets then.

@@kallidor I agree, the brighter colors really pop!

If you pop the small panel off the right side of the grab handle, 2 10mm bolts hold the grab bar onto the dash. One on each side.

All right, so I did this the other day. A few notes: · The directions are great! I could follow along every step of the way. · They're right: All this stuff cost me a little less than $50. · I'll point out that you'll want an extension on your socket wrench to get to those two bolts. I had one, and I guess most people do, but just be forewarned. · And most importantly: If you are using the small Mopar paint-matched can, buy two or even three. I was able to get about a coat and a half of ocean blue down before my can ran out. So I ended up with a so-so paint job of what I'd call "Spider-Man blue". Oh well. At least the vents and chrome trim are a bright red now. I'm digging that. Overall, though, I'm fairly pleased and this video got me through the process fairly painlessly. Thanks guys!

Great video and good looking mod. I would like to point out that if your jeep has the secondary battery, you need to disconnect that as well. Disconnecting the top battery is not enough, the system will still have power.

the "zip tie" is a retainer strap, so when the airbag deploys that trim is restrained from becoming a projectile.

The paint codes are on the door near the VIN number on the newer models. This is the best videos I’ve seen in this. Thanks!

This turned out awesome. As soon as jeep decides I can have my diesel JT I’ll be matching the hydro blue and I think I’ll do bronze trim rings to match the wheels

Really makes the interior stand out that much more. Already was planning on painting my tie rod and drag link since I’m swapping out the stock components to steersmarts. Awesome step by step, wish y’all showed the steering wheel trim piece take out.

Nice! Cheaper that way but long day hrs hrs ... or simple order online. That have all colours ready. Just ship it to you. Than put on. You dont have to take everything off. You know?

That is such a great idea. I have been writing down a slew of ideas for when my 23 High Velocity Rubi arrives. Heading to Newark De for the stereo install, and then having that dash paint matched also.

Any chance you could show how you remove the steering wheel trim?

Damn that looks nice, trying to do my interior green and purple like the joker

We debated going with the Punk'n! Love the color

If you can afford a newer JEEP, I think you can afford new plastic panels. If you wanna paint it, go ahead, just buy some used ones. Keep the original just in case you wanna sell the JEEP. My preference would be to wrap them. Easy to take off and easier to change colors.

The only issue with wrapping are the tight edges and the overall shape of the piece, we decided to paint our factory panels due to the fact that new ones are nearly 300 dollars. If in the event we ever sell the vehicle and the buyer wants gray panels we would just buy them then.

I didnt see any mention of when the adhesion promoter was needed or used, was it needed? I always thought it was a substitute for sanding hard to reach areas.

This is a Craftsman Gyro screwdriver, available online and in some stores.

Good video. I wanted to do the silver to a gloss black. And why do people want the Rubicon dash? I personally believe that refuse maroon color is ugly

Thanks for the great video. I now have a hydroblue dash in my gladiator! Do you have a video on taking the chrome off of the steering wheel? That looked great in your video. That’s my next project.

I'm gonna take a guess and say that trim piece zip tied has something to do with airbag deployment.

I just became a jeep owner. I am trying to find the Crystal Granite Jeep with blue accents or blue toned before I start upgrading mine. Most are red, bergundy or maroon

Not sure about the steering wheel trim.. but the rest looks good.

You should not be removing the passenger bezel, as the passenger airbag is attached and you risk the airbag hooks becoming detached from the bezel chute windows. You also risk not reinstalling it correctly. It goes without saying that you should also not be removing the airbag. And finally, you should not be painting, or applying anything to the passenger bezel, as the airbag deploys through the bezel and any modification to the bezel can affect the airbag performance.

Where did you get that accessory mount ball that replaces the hex bolt on the front grab handle above the dash!?!?

How did you do your steering wheel? Got a video for that or is it just clip ons?

I wish my Rubicon was close to this stock grey without that weird red and shiny crome all over the place.

Do I need to remove the entire panels if I only want to paint the chrome bezels? Or can the bezels be removed independently ? TIA!

That's a lot of work for a minor change. Do you think it was worth the effort? Certainly cheaper than buying the Rubicon colored dash pieces. Oh, and it looks great, btw. lol

That's a flat piece of panel, vinyl wrapping would be more reasonable, quick n easy and reversible

Nope. Just thoroughly sand before everything. Longest part of the process, but worth the time.

Just started pulling the pieces away, the only tools you'll need are a 10 mm socket and some smaller torx bits!

You also need a 24 inch socket for the main center piece! If you need help, let me know! I tried this and broke a few small pieces to figure it all out! Glad to help if you still need it

Beautiful job... but there's no way I'd trust myself to get it right and then ruin my OEM parts :-)

We used an automotive primer!

That is way too many clips for me to trust myself not to break during the removal. Ill just stick with my gray lol

Hey Matt I was wondering if you could do a video of on the "JEEP WRANGLER (JL) AXEL LOCKER MOPAR PERFORMANCE " Part Number (77072413) wiring installment. I have yet to found a video of this item online on instruction to install, I believe it would be a great video to make for those who didn't get the a Jeep rubicon or Sahara with the front and rear axel locker package. I hope you get to read this and considerate thank you in advance.

We actually have a few axle installs in the works, we plan on re-gearing our 2-door and potentially installing new axles in the Hemi, make sure you stay tuned!

Why?

I bet that ziptie holds that piece on incase the airbags deploy that piece doesn't slap someone in the face.

Nice little project, but personally these would look way better if colored with leather. The paint just looks a bit childish and cheap.

Why would you do this? Why not buy a small piece of vehicle wrap and wrap it?
