Alpine A110S road and track review: More power, less fun?

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Rory reviews the new Alpine A110 S, which has more power, a better 0-60, and better handling, but is it more fun? And crucially, is having more power better than sticking to a low weight philosophy? Let's find out in this road and track review!

    Everybody who can afford this car should go out and buy one immediately. The world needs to know that cars like this is what real petrolhead want. That way, we might just manage to preserve real drivers cars for that little bit longer...

    The Z is a massive tank in comparison and sounds not so good really (from inside)... I owned 2 350 Z's one of which was an HR and a 370 so I know what I am talking about. Currently own a 2009 Manual Cayman and I smile every time I drive it and it's the base model too! The alpine sounds quite good, feels very light and nimble is super rare on the roads in the UK and looks stunning, that auto box though does sap a lot of the fun away for me though.

    Let's be honest about the power hike; any remap company worth even half their salt would get at least 40bhp or more out of a turbo engine. For crying out loud Celtic Tuning will hike the power on an e46 BMW 330 diesel from 204bhp to 300bhp!!

    And so what? What is your point? We dont care about the power hike, this car is just about having the perfect sport package, the right combination, the ultimate balance. Raw power doesn't matter at all.

  • @dutchdna

    @dutchdna

    You can still do that yourself and get it up to 400 hp if you want. But for most, almost 300 hp at 1100 kg is plenty and more drivable and reliable and affordable.

    @@b.archambault 'too heavy'? Why do you say that? Manual gearboxes are generally lighter than a auto gearboxes with a similar size. Manual gearbox gives more control under braking make driving more engaging and you don't know what you are talking about.

    @tedtheturbot : Alpine itself said a manual gearbox is slightly heavier than the DCT for the A110. Usually it is the opposite but not for the A110. And they hadn't enough money to develop 2 gearboxes they said. Ferrari's, Mclaren's, Lambo's, Porsche's all have auto so what you say if not true. It is true for you. Each one it's own taste.
