Nope, just cousins. The alpacas are closely related to llamas and so that makes them a small cousin of llamas.

On the upside, new world camelids, which alpacas are part of do not smell like the old world camelids do.

You must have three minimum! It is a requirement. They will get sick otherwise.

That's not totally true. Camels and alpacas are part of the Camelidae family. This doesn't include horses. Thanks for watching!

Sometimes! That was more accurate a number of years ago. Some still sell for that much now. However that’s in the industry side of things and is more to do with their fleece, conformation, and lineage. It’s a blanket statement, but you can vaguely think about it like how a certain dog at a dog show is worth a huge amount, while a mutt at the pound may not be.

I agree with you to an extent- but you must also consider the fact that captive breeding programs through zoos are incredibly important
That is surely for the camera only. right? there's no way the zoo bosses allow their employees to stand around and star at the animals all day. ..surely?
