since you could just pop the game into a cd player and listen I still have my copy of the game with the rest of my music. such a classic

Never played through, loved the game though. Good ol times. Tunes still kick in my mind...

Why? What has it done of so horrible to deserve this fate? The game was as it is and was done with what they could. A remake is unnecessary(Just like in any case) and would just bury a classic.

Ye, I remember when that mini T-Rex jumped in thru the window! Damn it, that was scarry!!!

My favourite track: 14:25. At the time, i used to play without soundcard, only the internal speakers. This game has to be played without any music (except this track).

I remember when I played Little Big Adventure and one of these songs appeared I started to feel very scary without any reason at all. It was an amazing experience when I finished Alone in the Dark by first time.

2 grandes juegos con soundtracks y fx perfectos

It greatly reminds me of old series such as Goosebumps, Tales from the Crypt or Creepshow movies, to say some examples

The "end of the game... You win!" is definitely better than the Adlib version. Feels much more like an ending that you actually deserved! And maybe the "Derceto Collapses" is better too. For the rest, I prefer the Adlib.

hell this was the original version but improved now its on consoles 3d0 and shit however this was an ms dos windows game and macintosh game

It's not a "remaster", it's just a higher quality version that was allowed by more storage space. I'm pretty sure both version came out at about the same time.

@@binouche2281 Nope. The original 1992 version didn't even have voice acting. A remastered orchestrated soundtrack as well as voice acting were later added as part of the 1994 3DO port and an enhanced CD-ROM version for PC. The original 1992 version was for MS-DOS and came on diskettes.

@@SWolfFreki I'm pretty sure the CD-ROM version came at about the same time than the floppy version. Well, I might be wrong. But just to say, I'm not stupid enough to think a floppy game would feature this much voice acting. EDIT: BTW, Philippe Vachey had quit Infogrames short after AitD. So how is it he's credited for the CD music?

+Daniel Romero Ah, I think I played the floppy disc version as well =) And from what I can tell, quite few new songs were added to the CD-rom version of Alone in the Dark.

23:04 is creepy and uncomfortable as fuck. To someone that didn't grow up playing this game it may sound silly, but going downstairs to that huge basement, with this music and those annoying rats following was the scariest experience back in the day. My sister and I used to play this game together, but neither of us wanted to play this bit. This game is a perfect example that you don't need either darkness or dumb jump scares to scare the shit out of a person. And also shows how mediocre Alone in the Dark V is.

well I know this can get another shot on compact disc on the pc version but this was also on 3d0 as well. it was also ported to Saturn and playstation and dreamcast for the trilogy of second third and fouth installment the original one was only available for dos mac finder and pc-98.

I played this game a lot (CD version) and what is labeled as "Background effects1" is completely foreign to me. The rest I am very familiar with. Perhaps my copy was goofy but that track never played for me. Shame, since it is a very atmospheric piece and would add to the tension.

the end of the game theme that begins at 18:35 is really wonderful.. does it exist the long version?

The biggest surprise here is the music is actually slightly different at the beginning depending on the character. I thought there was no such difference. You failed a bit at ripping those tracks though, there's extra stuff at the end isn't there?

+Simo Vihinen I got the CD version of the game and there are no differences O_O. The "Entering derceto as carnby" plays when the character is outside and "Entering derceto as Ms.Hartwood" plays when the character is inside the mansion when the two doors closes. Also yes I think he failed while ripping beccause there are no repetitions after the music like there is in this video. Maybe there was different CD versions (or just a fail with the names ?)

Well the GOG version seems to give the tracks the way you'd expect, it's one long track that lasts from the beginning of the opening cutscene to the very end after climbing the attic stairs. One for E one for C. CD/GOG version has voice acting which I like but I think the music has lost something compared to old midi beeps. Specifically it loses a lot of creepiness when all the instruments are recognizable. I've thought about it and I doubt that's just nostalgy. I've gotten used to CD music though.
