Thank you so much for helping us to over 5,200 subscribers - I'm very grateful as always for all your support, especially on the Giggleswick walk just a few days ago :) Now, I really hope you enjoy this walk around Alnwick, but there's one thing that may be on your mind that we didn't mention in the video. 'Harry Hotspur' and the famous football team 'Tottenham Hotspur' are in fact linked! It all goes back to 1402, when Alnwick's famous Percy family were awarded the London borough of Tottenham by the King. Centuries later, a local cricket team named Hotspur Cricket Club were founded, and some cricket players set up a football team with the same name!

Ahhh I've walked up a few of those streets many of times (a couple times drunk) it's such a beautiful town😍

After living in Northumberland my whole 27 years of life I have never thought about why Alnwick is pronounced like Annick but Alnmouth is Alnmouth🤣 There's another village here in Northumberland which is spelt Ulgham but pronounced Uffham🤣

Ha ha well I hope this video brought back some nice memories of your walks around Alnwick - whether sober or not :) It's really rather interesting as to why it's Annick here but Alnmouth just down the road, but as you mention with that very interesting example of Ulgham, place names in the UK sometimes feel like they're just having a laugh with pronunciations 🤣 Thank you so much for watching and commenting - I really hope you enjoyed the video!

My extended family and I visited Alnwick from the United States in 2019 while we were staying in the UK. We were fortunate to explore Alnwick Castle and the actual town of Alnwick. I recall having fish and chips in a small restaurant called Lilburns, where the chef actually had gone out and caught fish that morning! Your video brought back some good memories from before COVID. Thank you!

Those sound like some wonderful memories! Alnwick certainly is a wonderful town and you were very fortunate to explore it, it's certainly not on the main tourist trail for overseas visitors :) And thank you very much for watching - I'm really glad you enjoyed the video and that it brought back some nice memories of Alnwick!

I'd like to do York to Newcastle, Newcastle to Tynemouth, Tynemouth to Morpeth, Morpeth to Alnwick, Alnwick to Bamburgh, Bamburgh to Lindisfarne, Holy Island, Holy Island, Lindisfarne to Berwick-upon-Tweed, Berwick-upon-Tweed to Edinburgh and back to London.

As a native of Beverley, the seat of The Northumberland Percies (although of course in E. Yorks), a visit to Alnwick HAS to be on my bucket list.. And what a lovely town you really do have here! The statue of Hotspur is v impressive. One wouldn't want to cross THIS guy.. Thanks so much for this wonderful tour! 🌟👍

The first battle of Alnwick was in 1093 and the Castle is from 1096 , both early Norman era, hence the castle is a result of Normans ring of defence .

Two of the things I would like to have seen were the White Swan room that copies the Titanic and also the small window in the pub where there are stored ancient bottles that have some sort of curse surrounding them … but it was otherwise a nice walk around the town.

Check out the bookshop "Barter Books" its set in the old railway station, amazing bookstore. anyway great video!

Barter Book Store was a MAJOR omission from an otherwise well researched video. Such a shame.

Grandparents, Mother and lived in Alnwick, My Brother was Born there, and I Visited "Hogwarts" long before it was known as such, as a Kid. Walked the Town Centre and the Gardens as well.

Thanks again, and thanks for clearing the pronunciation of the name. I'd heard somewhere before that it was pronounced "Annick", and if you hadn't mentioned it, I would have asked. I like to get that correct if I'm ever there. I was once in Stratford Upon Avon, and I knew the B&B I was going to stay in was on the Alcester Road. I stopped by a shop and asked the girl working there how to get to the All chester road. She looked at me like I was from outer space before telling me that it was pronounced All-ster.

That's one of the great perils of travelling up and down the UK - mispronouncing town names in front of locals always gives me a bit of a red face, so it's good to have an idea before you head in :) And yes - the 'cester' issue with the likes of Leicester and Gloucester in comparison to somewhere like Cirencester really can get confusing! The videos that I have seen make Northumberland looked much colder and darker than the Lake District in autumn.

Is it nice to live here?. I've living down in Cornwall for 2 plus years and I'm starting g to get restless. I live in Cambourne and it's good, but I just want to step out of my door and see history and scenery, and long long walks. Also to be able to ride my bike a brompton which I cannot do as its too busy with traffic. I just want change.

Hi there! While Cornwall and Northumberland are certainly at opposite ends of the country - I think that the two areas share parallels that might be familiar to you! Alnwick is by far one of the largest towns in North Northumberland, a wonderfully rural part of England that's jam-packed with history (take a look at my videos in the coastal villages of Seahouses and Bamburgh!), and it's easy to get about by hiking - much of the eastern part of the county is very flat - or by buses that connect the towns and villages. Plus, you're always within easy reaching distance of both Edinburgh and Newcastle, meaning there's a nice blend between rural life and the big city :) I hope that helps you out - I'm sure if you do make a move up to Northumberland you'll love it!

And another beautiful town in Northumberland. Me and her indoors visited twice, last time about 10 years or so back. Now pleasantly & happily divorced I'm off to Northumberland in September, Alnwick is a definite. I have driven through the gate in my Volvo (missed the gate & miss the Volvo too:-)) Hope they decide to keep it in situ. Where else in England can you go that has so little traffic? @@LetsWalkUK Yes 7pm, I come from London (now in Leeds) where at 7pm it's still rush hour (S). I remember taking the A69 (Newcastle to Carlisle) back then and hardly any traffic. Such a wonderful county.

It should be Bustling with people...Sad to see it almost deserted..like a Ghost town.... Was it quiet because of Covid or you filmed very early on a Sunday or something...but besides that Very nice 👍 Filming as always.....

I filmed this walk in late May this year at around 7 o'clock in the evening, so many of the shops were shut by that time and I know lots of people do like to pop down to Newcastle for a night out too, so perhaps that's why it was a bit quieter :)

Hello! This castle is a building site at the moment! It's not worth visiting at the moment! An entrance fee of 20 Pounds and the missing permission of taking photos in the inside are two more reasons not to visit this place! ;-) Greetings Renate and Olaf #Trackbreaker

agree with Renate and Olaf. Also, it's very difficult to read the script and look at the pictures at the same time, which are not complete at times.

I’ve never watched your videos before and have found this nice filming but very difficult to read and watch at the same time without any commentary. I can’t help thinking you’re hugely limiting your audience by doing it this way.

Hi there! Thanks for commenting - I've had a fair few people wonder whether I can do audio commentary instead of the captions, and it's something I'm looking towards doing when the time allows.
