Almost every shaft has this problem

Ойын-сауық

You may get away with it for a while but eventually you'll have heartbreak if you don't fix the hole on your spear. Most manufacturers don't fix this problem and send shafts out all the time in this state. I do this for all my shafts and I haven't had the line snap at the hole since. I hope you enjoy this little bit of spearfishing DIY!

    Great tips. I’ve had issues with bridles wearing through on rough shark fins, and I’ve lost two good fish so far from the exact issue you made the video about. I’ve since just gone to tying the loop onto the shark fin holes but I’ll absolutely be doing this in the future. Huge fear of mine and I’m checking dyneema after every shot I take out of paranoia

    Awesome vid. Such an important bit of information. Lost what should of been a world record mutton snapper in Islamorada using a brand new Omer shaft. That shaft was my backup shaft, however 2 dives earlier I lost my original shaft when a massive bull shark taxed my black grouper, as a result I used my back up shaft with 300 Lb mono line and I lost it on my first shot on what I believe was a 24-26 Lb mutton snapper. The mono snapped within 2 seconds of being dragged. Lesson learned.

    I love watching your videos and Oi learned already a lot from it . Thank you for that. When seeing some videos I noticed you are using 5mm gloves etc. in water which is like 10 degrees cold. But according to the products 7mm is made for 16-10 degrees, so my question is do you think I can use a 5mm suit in spain in winter when the water is like 13 degrees or will I be to cold? happy hunting

  • @DanielMann

    @DanielMann

    8 ай бұрын

    Depends on how long you are in the water for and the style of diving you’re diving. If it’s long breath holds in deeper water you’d probably get cold after an hour. If it’s shallow up and down hole hunting maybe longer. For me I would be using a 7mm suit in 13°C.

    You don’t need to do anything to stainless steel shafts. The ones that are a bit brown coloured is just from the heat treating so not a protective layer as such. Certainly nothing like a Rob Allen spring steel shaft, you need to use zinc-it or spray gal on those.

  • @DanielMann

    @DanielMann

    9 ай бұрын

    If it’s a coated shaft it’s always going to rust once the coating gets worn off from shooting fish or shooting into sand. You can sand it down and apply something like zinc-it to it but if you want zero rust, stainless steel is the way to go.

    Excellent tip for an excellent tail. 👍😁 Got an expensive pair of Italian work boots a few years ago and had to take a round needle file to the eyelets as the laces were shredding inside a week. Looking to get my first set of long fins. Experienced swimmer but fairly new to diving (have spent this season on scuba fins). Tall and slim, somewhere over 80kg, had thought medium stiffness. Chris at SpearfishingUk kindly replied to my enquiry suggesting soft. Now all confused. 🤪 Would medium be too fatiguing? Would soft lack punch? 🤔 Any advice welcome. Mark
