That black coating on the toe is a rubberized paint that helps to protect the longevity of the toe without compromising casual style with a full rubberized toe. When it starts to wear, you can re-coat it. You can find the product online or take it to an outdoor shoe repairist. Hope that helps! ✌

I just broke these in during a week long trip in Quebec. It is early days but I found them extremely comfortable in various terrains from urban to trail. The look of them also enabled me to not have to pack multiple shoes as they were perfectly suitable to wear out to dinner. Thanks for another great review.

I wore a pair of those in Afghanistan for about 1 yr 3 months. I took them on R&R to St Lucia and hiked up the Gran Piton mountain. Great shoe overall.

Just used some Kiwi Express Black shoe polish on my 2650 toe box. It worked! The scuffs showing the tan material underneath is black again and looks great. It only took 5 minutes. It is annoying that this material isn't tougher, but at least the fix is easy.

Love these . Trail 2650 probably my favorite shoe . Have almost all the colors and wear them daily . Only wish they were just a tad wider , even the WIDE is tight. Other than that, a perfect shoe .

I've had these shoes 7 or 8 months, I really like them. I have been a American made New Balance shoe wearer for a very long time. New Balance stopped making my favorite shoe 12 years ago. I LEARNED FROM THAT EXPERIENCE, ORDERED TWO extra PAIRS OF THESE at $169.00 just to put in the closet. These shoes show almost no wear, and no wear on the soles. Way better built then my New Balance. 240lbs 13EE true to size.

I have read reviews of hikers who have gone long distances, rock hiking, etc., and their testimony is that these shoes hang in there and are still going strong. I am planning on using them on my thru hike of CDT. I would tend to believe that if they do not live their guarantee one could send them into Danner and get a replacement set for free.

I think that painted on toe cap is only on a few models. There are a few other leather models, and it looks like to smooth leather models where there is stitching or a seam right there in the middle of that toe bumper.

I agree. Waterproofing is silly except for certain types of endurance or longer hiking slushy snow etc. In general, it just down grades your breathability. I prefer to just slip on some waterproof socks if the conditions call for it. 👍

Hey, great video! I'm looking to hit up more rocky mountain trail hiking here in the dry Colorado Summer next year. Whats your favorite GTX and non GTX option to for shoes/boots to hike in these types of conditions and terrain? I have a set of mid outline GTX salomons, but I am concerned about them making my feet too hot, even with merino wool socks to wick sweat. Thanks for any insight!!

i've had these shoes for a little over a year now, and if you are looking for something to last that long, this is not a good choice. i've not even used them that much, but after about 10months the cushing and padding really starts to show wear and after a year, i have to give it a day to rest for the foam to recover before using them because if not, its like walking barefoot

With '2650' in the shoe name Danner is specifically targeted towards the Long Distance thru Hiking audience. Most long distance backpackers/hikers have a strong preference for lightweight shoes that are not waterproof. Breathable lightweight and quick drying are the qualities they are looking for.

I totally dig my pair. I've had mine for almost 2 years. I live in Ohio and do a lot of hiking. These have held up really well. One of the best fitting shoes I've worn for my narrow feet in size 13. I also wear mine to the office (education) in the winter on snowy days. They are still going strong and have withstood solid use both on the trail and around town. One thing I would not do is run/jog around town in these unless being chased by some large suburban carnivore 😆. ymmv

What size do you wear? If I were to guess, a narrow width 16. Id like to purchase these shoes but would like to find a man who will wear them for me for approximately 6 weeks to properly break them in. I will not wear a shoe that isn’t pre worn and broke in already.

Steven Werth I have some Vasque Juxts also. They are way heavier and don’t flex nearly as good as the Danner. I’d pick the Danner over Vasque in this situation.

@@pssita I agree with you 100% on the weight, I was only referring to the $160 Price Tag on the Danners 2650 , and I thought that the Vasque would be a way better long term cost effective purchase over the Danners . As far as light weight Trail / Running / Hiking Shoes , I personally love my Solomon's, all of mine have held up great. Plus, I Really shouldn't have compared my Vasque to these Danners ,but, $160 seems expensive for these Shoes. the Danners seem like a poor Quality shoe, love the looks though.
