Alliance of Sahel States set up

The military chiefs of Mali, Burkina Faso and Niger have signed a treaty, setting up a new Alliance of Sahel States.
The three countries held a summit to mark their official divorce from the Economic Community of West African States yesterday.
University of Pretoria African Politics and International Relations Professor Chris Isike unpacks this further.

@icno123 , every country has a different history. For Burkina, I have witnessed a lot of important political events. Nowadays, Western countries have colonized our mentality to the point that we think we, Africans cannot successfully initiate our own political vision. Every model has be accepted by the west to be successful. Shame on us, Africans who refuse to create and trust our own way.

This so called analyst just has an adoration for the Western block. He has not addressed the real issues which ECOWAS has failed to address for years. Our people are suffering everywhere in Afrika, I support any principled move to improve people's lives. The platitudes of democracy are just not enough when people are starving to death in such mineral rich lands. And I think it is not sensible to ignore the observable divergent interests among Afrikan heads of state. And that's why Pan Afrikanism now must be about individual countries who genuinely commit to this idea, converging to formulate a real programme of action, informed by our present challenges. Maybe a separation is needed first then a genuine unity can ensue. This is why the argument for more youthful leadership is urgent in Afrika. We need sharp thinkers, agile, critical thinkers to deal with the complexities of an ever changing world. Perhaps our Elders must accept that they have reached the ceiling, we value them in advisory roles.

One nation and what happens to tribalism or those who are still serving their western masters behind closed doors? If educated people of Zimbabwe are struggling with tribalism and all positions in Zimbabwe are reserved for Shonas then what will happen to the SADC? You want SADC to be Shona fiefdom? With life time Shona king and forcing all of us to speak Shona? With all minerals controlled by Shonas ? 😂 you are really hungry for power that United africa must never happen otherwise the master will control africa like he did in 45BCE

When we have criminals among ourselves who are serving the interest of the western or Asians or Arabs master? This will lead to a Shona fiefdom with lifetime king, Shona slogans, Shona symbolism chimurenga music that praises Shona God and all of us as the subjects will be expected to speak proper Shona or else face the wrath of the Shona God
