This is my fave Allertor vid, all because of the snow, lol.

You can hear that the pitch is a little higher than most Allertors because of the snow blocking the air a little which allows the chopper to spin faster.

Go to manitwoc WI near some trees and you'll see a T-128 (it replaced a damaged allertor that was spinning the wrong way and sucking up air/reverse wired automatically and had a melted chopper)

This Allertor was remove back in 2014 and was replaced with a 2001 but the long pole the Allertor was on remains with the 2001 on it

I love the snow, and the sound

Love the harmonics on the wind down.

I grew up where there was one of these almost in my backyard. It was only used for war time. So all we heard was it being tested each year and they only spun it about 3 times. When I was about 3-5years old all us kids ran screaming to our mothers when it came on. As we got older it looked like something from War of the Worlds movie.

It sounds like a home run at Yankee stadium

...wow, you don't see many winter tests. Sure makes it easy to tell which is the intake and which is the sounding horn!

Actually, it looks like this siren was still in it's "civil defense" yellow paint.I remember the ones in Sprinfield Ma. still had the "CD" logo on the sides as well as being in this color.

It doesn’t run on air but it does spin a motor which sucks in air through the bottom horn, then the sound comes out the top. This particular one is either just rotating backwards and it’s a 15 horsepower unit, or it’s reverse weirder so the rotor rotates they other way, lowering its effectiveness in being loud

You are so dumb It's no effect It's real snow being blown out from the top and bottom horn

Due to the fact this allertor was infested with snow, if ACA brought back the Allertor, I want new port ratios in it (including 8/3 port) along with other sirens they made in the 1950s to 2000s.

It has a rough wind up, you can hear a hiccup at 0:10 Also it is blowing snow out of the stator

The bottom horn is the intake. The top horn is where the sound comes out.

0:10 did it have a small hiccup there? This also looks like the Richfield MN Nicollet Park Allertor Update, I heard 2 other echoes. 0:13 and 0:18. The 3 hiccups progressively gotten better

Motor in back, Chopper/Stator in the middle, air intake up front, Horn on top, and rotating mechanism on the bottom. That's why it's shaped like that.

I miss the siren's. Here in NJ they used to use the siren for fire calls and to announce noon every day. They stopped that about 5 years ago. Now the only siren we get is when they're testing the Indian Point Nuclear Power Plant EOC. They do it every 3 months. They announce it on tv, radio, and mobile phone that they're testing. Then for 15 minutes epic nuclear siren tests. I love how it completely disrupts everyday life.

@CRQ5508 Both the air output and the intake are sound "speakers"--that is, even though the intake sucks air inward, there's a lot of sound that shoots outward from it.

It must've been mighty cold that day; you can see this snowblower's "breath" steaming the air! LOL

Wow! Really nice sound. Years ago, when I was a kid the local fire department must have had one of these as I remember the sound. They had it running in the up/down fashion as demonstrated at 2:06. Sadly it has long since been replaced.

Is this 98th Street West or East? I tried looking for it on Bing Maps. btw I like the snow that blows out when the siren starts but isn't that bad for the siren itself?

Is this still there? I was in Bloomington trying to see a Thunderbolt on 2nd street I think it was and they replaced it with a 2001.

@dinxton2 The top is where the air from all the ports of the side of the chopper is gathered and comes out. The chopper's not really in the bottom, but more like right in the middle.

That snow must have kinda affected the way it sounds or something since it is cold out there plus snow got in it and what happens when the snow will melt in it when winter is over? The water would basically go down into it or something and probably affect it not so sure but if it can handle the rain and other types of weather then this siren is good i guess.

Yes it sucks from the bottom tub that has the rotar or chopper and blows the sound out to the top horn, that's why you see the icy snow being blown out in the video.
