God, I love the haunting, chill sound of the two-tone sirens they made like this in the old days. The newer stuff doesn't really put that same scare into me.

In my first apartment, one told me on the first Wednesday of every month there would be an air raid siren about 100 ft. from my window! Just about jumped out of my skin the first time it happened!!
Grew up about a mile from this siren.... gives me chills of excitement every time I hear it!! You don't hear sirens like this anymore!

tunezjunkie87 There was a civil defense siren at my high school (half a mile from my house), and I'll never forget the racket it made when it was tested! For some reason, the county got rid of them in the 80's, and considering that central Maryland still gets hit with the odd tornado and DC is right there, taking them down was a really dumbass idea.

Good to see a town that takes care of their equipment AND runs a proper test. This siren looks like it has been painted recently. I also like the fact that the timer solinoid is set for a two seconds cut / ten seconds power in attack mode. It looks & performs like new.
Best siren in my opinion. Too bad Federal Signal discontinued them sometime in the early 1990s. These sirens such as this one, the 2T22, the SD-10, Thunderbolt, and all others date back to the early-mid 1950s, during the Cold War.

Why does only 2 horns have the solenoids? That sucks.
@JPa311979
9 жыл бұрын
The solenoids block the top and bottom intake pipes. The air air gets blown out the 12 horns on the top threw the top pipe and the 10 horns on the bottom get their air from the bottom pipe. All that you need are 2 solenoids. Blocking one intake pipe makes the high tone(top row) or low tone(bottom row) go silent.

Living in tornado alley and hearing this go off is one of the worst feelings I have ever felt in my lifetime
3T22s are a piece of history and people don’t realize it. They think that “new technology” can outdo old technology like the Electronic siren or T-128, 2001s, and other pieces of trash. These sirens need to be restored. Thank you all.
I was with a church group about a year ago and we were across the street from the towns fire station that had this model siren. It went off and I looked at my watch and it said it was the noon sound off. It was just a quick Alert blast. All the kids in the group were startled but a lot were from small towns like the one we were in so they were fine. I then proceeded to amaze them with my knowledge of Sirens.

We have a fireman who lives literally next door to the borough building and fire hall. 175 feet from the siren. I live 360 feet from the siren (direct line of sight to my window). We’re going back and forth at the hall about our siren (which mind you, i could hear in my apartment on a clear night, three miles away, in the middle of the city, over two hills, a river, a ravine, and a railroad embankment behind our hall. Anyways, we’re talking about how ungodly loud our siren is. Lt says to Karen “siren’s wailing away, and your mum is swatting at flies, like ‘do you see a bug flying around here?’ That’s the fire siren you old bat’”. It is 115 decibels in their living room.
At 4:35 it sounds like a dying airplane! 😂😂😂

"Attention on the base! Attention on the base! *EXERCISE EXERCISE EXERCISE!!!* (1:00) *INCOMING!!! INCOMING!!! TAKE COVER NOW!!!*" The siren would continue to wail while we would get into our bunkers and wait until the sirens would stop wailing and then, " *ALL CLEAR! BEGIN RECOVERY PROCEDURES!* " Good times in the desert... I don't miss them, but I'll always remember them. Not to mention, having to sit in a bunker between 20 to 45 minutes listening to the siren over and over again, sitting out in the heat of the afternoon with temperatures around 125... just to take roll!

I've heard this a decent amount if times when I lived in Minnesota, if you heard it in the non scheduled time every 3rd Wednesday of the month then you knew get inside or a shelter because a serve storm or tornado was coming in the area. Or if you were like me, you'd stand outside in crazy heavy rain/lite hail, 30-50mph winds, and lots of lightning because it was exciting
2:02 God that sound gets REALLY scary when you hear it when it's low pitched
Here in Columbus, Georgia there have been like 3 tornados and 2 tornado watches sooo ive heard this alot in school
This gives me the shivers.
Nicely done. The fire department had one of these in use in Rison, Arkansas, and I believe it may still be in use today. Was there not too long ago for a short visit in 2013, but I don't recall looking at it on the tower. Short-term memories are a little fuzzy at best for me lately.

Where I live, they test the sirens the first Saturday of every month at exactly 12 noon. I'll never get used to it. What sucks is my bedroom window is 350 feet away. Over here it is used to alert the fire department. We have a magnesium casting plant here in town and every time their fire system gets a little hot it triggers an alarm.
Damn!!!!! That sound brings back memories of my 1980s childhood, from when I lived in Temple, Tx. Every Sat. Or Sun. at 11:00AM, the city tested the siren for functionality, and this one sounds exactly like it.

It doesn't start until 1:00 ..... You're welcome...
That's literally the scariest sound of my life. Just think about it, when I hear this one day out of the ordinary, for me I just have a flashback of all my memories and just think that the world is over for me. Who else agrees?
What's cool is you can frame of the siren twisting from the torque of the motor,
Yeah this is definitely the natural disaster alarm.
Yesterday I peed my self because Theas nuclear bomb alarms went off with out doing the voice that says this is only a test please do not panic.

Only electric sirens say the warning about the test. The ones like this do not.
4:20-4:43, sounds like beautiful straight pipe jake brakes.
You know this thing is effective when just the TEST gives you massive anxiety and makes you want to literally hide.
I am gonna make a siren
what is the name and model. of this siren if known?
