Hung out with him back in the early 80's after he performed at my University. Chill guy, and with respect to horn playing, an absolute mutant/freak of nature. dude is from another planet.

I have watched Allen lay it out since his college days! We don't know how he does it, we just accept the fact he does! Never have I heard anyone play sixteenth notes and every other note is a two octave jump! He is incredible and doesn't even look like he is working hard! 🎺🎵🎶👍

The first time I heard him was with Woody in the mid late 70's Danny D was on drums. I know Danny some. He had been playing with Maynard. He said to me during the intermission, "check this out." I was blown away. Woody had a pretty tight group then. Jim Pugh was on trombone, Danny on drums, Dennis Dobson, and Allen playing trumpet. 😎😎

@@brucehehl5688 Yes indeed Bruce! Woody had some great bands, didn't he! I remember when Dave Stahl was playing lead trumpet with Woody. They would play the Carol King piece "Corizon". It started soft and kept building. Stahl would smack that double high "A" and blow the wall down! My where did the time go? Have a Great Day! 🎺🎶🎵

I saw Allen way back, it was around 1975ish and he was playing with, It was Woodie Herman's band. It was at Shaw high school gym in Metairie Louisiana, just outside New Orleans. I heard someone play trumpet like I never heard before. I didn't know who he was, and I only saw him from the side. But some how his facial structure stayed with me. I'm on youtube and just to the right of the page there's a video of him and one of them looks like what I remember him looking like. So as the internet came along, some years back I started watching videos of Maynard Ferguson and don't you know a video popped up with the guy I remembered from the side view and I'll be damn it was the face of that guy I saw playing the horn back then that I never knew. It was Allen. I was a local trumpet player myself from New Orleans. So when I saw it I said self that's the guy. Until now I didn't know he was 2 years younger than me. So when I saw him he was around 22. With that said I have followed him ever since. Great trumpet player

His tone is one of a kind, and it’s like that at all dynamic levels, and throughout his useful range, which is ridiculous and very, I repeat very very rare. Most guys can either play super high, with crappy articulations and crappy tone, or they can’t play high, but have a great sound in middle and low register. Allen Vizzuti consistently plays all over the horn with a huge majestic, dream like tone, and does it from the pedal register all the way to notes that most people can only dream of being able to articulate some day lmfao

im one of those people with the range and crappy tone lol im in 9th / concert band and my director gets so mad when i play my 2 octave d and e scale because he says it sounds forced which it does because im really starting to get the hang of bs and (maybe) cs i really only play those for sport. He thinks i cant play high which i understand cause at the beginning of the year i was trash because my 8th grade director quit mid year 😭 im trying to work on my sound up there because to me id rather be able to make a 3 pointer with horrible form because i can always gradually fix the form you know

Remember Allen’s high note instructional workouts and lessons back in the 80’s. Even playing lead at times you were looking at the sheet music counting lines to see what some of the notes were. Fun times.
