Clutch shots at the end
5 Allen Iverson Jump Shot Tips
These 5 Allen Iverson jump shot tips will have you hitting shots consistently. The former league-MVP has always been known for his sweet-shooting touch. Picking up these tips will have you draining your jump shots from any distance and angle like Allen Iverson in no time.
You will need:
Basketball
Basketball court
Learn to position your body. It all begins here. Learning how to properly position your body equates to getting good balance. Allen Iverson uses the stance wherein the shoulder of his shooting hand is slightly ahead of his non-shooting shoulder. His legs are a little more than shoulder wide apart to give him extra stability.
Get a grip. He places the ball almost in front of his chest with his shooting hand underneath and his non-shooting hand on the side of the ball for additional support. Iverson spreads his fingers for additional grip, with his fingertips firmly latched on the basketball.
Jump straight up. Allen Iverson frequently has to employ the use of his fade-away shot to avoid getting the ball blocked by pesky defenders. However, when perfectly clear, he hits his shots in textbook form. Iverson starts with perfect positioning and propels himself using his feet, knees and legs for elevation. His then cocks the ball slightly behind his head ready to shoot.
Shoot the ball and follow through. When he hits the peak of his jump, Iverson extends his shooting arm and flicks his wrist, allowing the ball to naturally roll off his fingertips. Even as the ball leaves his fingers, he continues to follow through.
Practice makes perfect. Even with his natural gifts and talents, Allen Iverson continues to hone and improve his skills through practice. Regularly shooting jump shots improves one's form and technique and will allow for greater consistency.

When I first started watching actual film of iverson and not just highlights I was surprised by how much of his game consisted of jump shots either off the catch from a screen or off the dribble. He was a very good shooter even though numbers due to volume and difficulty might say otherwise.

No, if he has a low shooting percentage on jumpers from 2pters and 3 pters, then he was not a good shooter. Iverson was an ineffective shooter and below average shooter for a shooting guard, especially a starter. Any player who played some time they can show highlights.

Iverson’s jumper was under rated, his mid-range was deadly. Combine his deadly mid-range with amazing finishing skills and impeccable speed and quickness. Its not hard to realize why he has so many scoring titles. True Legend!

Another reason why he was a better player than Jordan. The same with Kobe. They had shot restrictions. Jordan did, he remained in the 15 to 20 ft boundary to take his shots. Then as the game progressed many of his defenders became slouched in guarding and if not. They were charged obsessively will foul calls. Meanwhile Iverson shot everywhere and made his defenders keep up with his agility.

If you actually think Iverson was not only better then Kobe but Jordan, you have beyond drank the Iverson Kool aid. Jordan took good shots, that is why he shot over 50 percent while scoring 30 pts for his career. Iverson barely shot over 40 percent for his career. They are not in the same ballpark. I might as well say Paul Mokeski was a better center then Hakeem

@jeromemccollom936 no offense but if you’re gonna use stats then you should know better than to exclude context. his field goal percentage was bad when the offense was literally just him. If we look at the stats then we can see his fg% increased to 45% when he went to denver, in his short time at Memphis he was almost 60% from the field.
