    I mix FOH at a House Of Worship in Los Angeles and I am a long time Allen & Heath user. I'v mixed with the Allen & Heath GL 2200 Dual Function Console, the ZED 436, GLD 112 Chrome, the SQ7 and we are now looking to evolve to the Avantis. Allen & Heath consoles not only have a great sound, but are really user friendly for volunteers.

    Stunning consoles. A few odd limitations in the fixed number of busses (12 stereo aux OR groups, or a combination of...) but by far the best tool which is unique to AH is the parallel path compressor. Drum group compression without wasting a buss, and turn it on on your recording output to really fatten the sound up and reduce the dynamic range

    Hey we're using this console, we've only had it for a couple of months so we're still really learning and getting used to it. We're coming from an A&H analog board so it's been a learning curve to go to digital. So far though the board is working great!

    Hi Marty, would love to know about your conversion from analog to digital using the new Allen & Heath, we currently are looking for a new mixer the one we have is A&H 1998. Please email Truth4LasVegas@mail.com We would love your input and did you purchase at Sweetwater? My understanding is the Behringer brand does not support the Dante Card and it is made in China.

    We have SQ6 and could not be more pleased. Recently with Covid restrictions we put the SQ on a cart and now use for outside services and it worked great. I also use the Allen and Heath ME-1 personal mixers which integrate flawlessly with the SQ. For a church that uses volunteers I recommend the largest SQ you can afford to limit the number of fader layers they need to deal with to simplify mixing. Multiple layers can be confusing when learning any mixer - not a rap on the SQ as switching layers is very simple.

    Using the SQ7 and M32 at church in different halls. just get the SQ series, super clean preamps, user customisable layout, routing flexibility, the colours and the lights are a huge bonus! For anyone changing from an analogue system, this is a prefect board with the amount of physical inputs and outputs.

    Put an order for SQ-5 and rack mount tabs less than 6 months after it came out on the market. With Dante available on all A&H digital products above the QU product line, the "future proofing" for expansion is almost limitless. Can't say that for Behringer products. The SQ series is simply a great long-term value investment.

    B-Wild no, I haven't. I'm in Australia and the A&H is about $2000 more than the Presonus here, so I didn't even bother. I don't like Behringer, cause their quality control has not been the best in the past and the Midas is basically a more expensive version of the same thing. The Presonus was perfect for me cause I do a lot of live recordings and it integrates well in the studio as a daw controller.

    I think it is important to look at the total system cost, including digital stage boxes and 6-8 on-stage personal monitors, not just the mixer on its own. If you're already invested in a competitor's ecosystem, you pretty much have to change everything in one fell swoop, which makes it a harder pill to swallow financially. Don't get me wrong, knowing what's out there is always a good thing, and I have high respect for A&H gear - will strongly consider if I ever have to start a new system from scratch.

  • @Robin-sf3gk

    Could you explain the "6-8 on-stage personal monitors"? If you already have monitoring speakers in an analog setup do you have to buy a separate monitoring system for a digital mixer?

  • @gracenotes5379

    @gracenotes5379

    Жыл бұрын

    @@Robin-sf3gk I was primarily thinking of personal monitor mixers used to drive each musician's in-ear monitors (IEMs). If you have analog stage wedges, that is a different matter. I think it is safe to say that most churches have moved away from stage wedges to keep stage noise from leaking into the house and to allow each musician to control the exact mix they want to hear in their ears. However, wedges with analog inputs can be used with any system that provides aux send mixes to the stage area.

    I've heard this before. Here's what I don't understand - sound travels about 5.56ft in 5ms. If I set up another drum kit 5.64ft away from another drummer, I can guarantee you that I'd be able to play in time with him. If I recorded those 2 drums and had someone else listen to it, they would also say the 2 drums are in time. I can tell you that I used to make a living from editing drums and audio in studios around the world - I could tell if something was out of time by 10ms but it was more of a gut feeling. You couldn't really hear it. So basically, that's a long winded way of saying, "I don't think 5ms matters much at all. Especially if you're mixing 32 channels with effects and multiple busses. There's no one on earth that can hear or even perceive that difference."

    1. This video is an ad. Nothing more, nothing less. 2. Worship ministries’ needs are not so special that you need to find a "console for worship". A console for live production will do. Scale it do size for your needs and you’re good to go. If you’re unsure what the best option might be for you, ask a pro and not a worship youtuber, because professionals are more knowledgable and don’t need to know much about the kind of thing you do on Sundays. 3. All the info about latency is great, but it still doesn’t say anything about why the SQ5 could be better than other mixing consoles because there are other (even more) affordable consoles with extremely low latency. With the X32, we’re talking 0.8 ms latency. No one should care about the 0.1 ms difference, or at least not so much that it would influence their buying decision. 4. Again, none of this information is worship-specific: the fpga stuff is interesting and something to consider, but ESPECIALLY with churches which don’t have different demands on their consoles from week to week, I’m not sure this is totally relevant for worship ministry. 5. The A&H guy is wearing a really nice shirt.
