​@BoxBotBox are you a new or non Muslim? No problem. Zakat is an obligation upon the Muslims. It is a donation made mandatory on those who are not too poor, given to the poor, yearly. It is a very small percent of your earnings, however it is still greater than the typical non muslim's tax. The difference between zakat and sadaqa is that zakat is a finite compulsory donation to the poor, while sadaqa is any voluntary charity. The clear meaning of this hadith is that what is most beloved to Allah is the bare necessities of being a Muslim. Anything beyond that will bring you closer, but doing the minimum is enough for what Allah loves most.
