ellebangs please please can you tell me how long do I have to wait till I can do a curly perm on keratin treated hair????

Hi guys, as a "user" of brazilian blow outs since 2009, I have a few things to say. I have very fine and curly hair starting from about an inch from my scalp but my curls are more due to have fine hair, so it's not too difficult to straighten. when I first started doing my brazilian blow outs my hair looked fantastic, shine and really easy to manage. If I let it air dry it wouldn't look completely straight but would have volume and frizz reduced a lot. If I blow dry even without a brush it looks it has been done at the hair dresser. It is meant to wash off your hair like a semi permanent dye but it doesn't really happen. With time you can see that it looses its effect but not completely, so you can clearly notice your curly roots, for me I have to do it every 4 months. Depending on your hair, you would need to do it between every 3 to 6 months ( I only do my roots now, after all the procedures my length is straight). Now, the down side: the product creats a coat on your hair, what makes difficult to get nourishing products to get in. 7 years after, I can say that my hair is a lot thinner and dull in comparison to what it was. So if you are thinking of doing it, I would suggest it for people with very healthy hair and that really look after it, or in the long run it tends to get worse. Hope that sharing my experience could be of some use for someone! ;-)

As a hairdresser myself, this video makes so much sense!! Omg people bring in photos of curling iron curls thinking they are getting this nice long spiral wave.... And get mad at you when you say that's unrealistic for their hair type.

the last time i got a perm i had my cousin put the rods in my hair vertically instead of the normal horizontal way, it came out with much cuter curls imo.

I have always felt that same way about curly perms. I have however seen some nice waved perms on occasion.

What about the digital perms? Those seem to be for exactly much bigger sized curls/waves. Lots of vids on youtube and seems to be very popular among asian communities in LA.

Great video, very well said! If I could just make one clarification it would be that a Brazilian blowout/keratin treatment is NOT a process treatment and therefore doesn't chemically damage the hair like relaxers or perms. Any damage could only come from careless flat ironing during application which is easy to avoid -- super hot temperatures are NOT needed. In fact, keratin treatments are legendary for restoring damaged hair by adding shine, strengthening against breakage, smoothing out coarseness. You're totally right about them preventing damage by cutting drying/flat ironing time in half or less. And NOTHING controls frizz as well as Brazilian keratin. Being able to style your hair in a fraction of the time and not have it pouff or frizz in humidity is a dream come true for those of us with serious hair.

+Uncurly DIY Brazilian Keratin so please can you give more details about how to avoid damage when applying it especially the heat part .. what is the minimum heat required and is it important to use hot cap ... please share the details of how to apply it safely on the hair ... many thanks inadvance

For long hair one can do a piggy back perm or a spiral perm. Taking sections and weaving like a foil then roll them up makes a beautiful spiral perm. I'm a Toni perm 80's chic. We know all the tricks. :)

Ah the piggy back, my mom was a stylist in the 80s/90s and she always gave me an amazing perm. I do wish I could achieve the beach wave with a perm the way I do with a curling iron (I don't go all the way to the root & I leave the ends out)

nessy marie i agree. I think for the beach awave in a perm you may have to use two different rollers. you would still have to style somewhat though.

Keratin treatment changed my life! My hair is easy to style and is so much healthier!!

Great video! In my recent class in spiral and beach waving the ratio is 1 1/2 turns for a wave, 2 1/2 times for a curl and 1 time for a C shape. Likewise a perm will always need some styling, some clients think they wake up with perfect hair but thats not the case. Keratin treatment is a semi permeant because the high heat will break some bonds and the hair as to re harden to fix the keratin protein in place.

I have 3a curls and love my Brazilian blow out (the original), it doesn't straighten the hair but it does make it more manageable, my hair is still curly but has way less frizz. I get it twice a year and that's enough for me

You can accomplish beach wave perms. you must leave the ends out to help create the look.

For those of you who don't know "Brazilian blowout ' can also be referred to in places like uk or Australia as chemical straightening .

Jennifer Santamaria a Brazilian Blowout is a keratin treatment- Brazilian Blowout was just one of the first and most well known brands on the market- I used to not really like them and went with GK International after trying 3-4 different brands, but Brazilian Blowout Solution has been reformulated, cutting its molecular size/weight in half, allowing for deeper and better penetration into the hair shaft. The new formula is also ready as soon as the client walks out the door, and doesn’t require the normal 2-3 day waiting period before being able to wash the hair (which can sometimes smell pretty bad during that waiting period)... the hair also feels incredible and smells good when the client leaves the salon

Perms are GREAT...great for shorter hairstyles, for texture in men styles, for giving body and for flat har without volume to archive good blowdry. Properly done - it is great thing! For big curls you have to blowdry (or dry on big curlers under hooddryer) soft perm ... You cant have big bouncy waves just with perm... of course .... But perms are great solution for many things. You cant do good perm if you hate it...as many hairdresssers today.

Hey I have a question for you. Is it okay to dye my hair black and then perm it the same day?

Do you think a "beach wave" perm could work on someone with naturally curly hair or would it completely destroy the curl pattern rather than uncoil it a bit?

I watched guy tangs video on his big beach waves perm and I fell in love with them. The problem is that I have very fine blonde hair and my mom thinks the perm will fall out soon and look bad after a week or so. What are your thoughts?

Kira R if the blowout is performed correctly- no formaldehyde is produced. I'm pretty sure that even if someone did it incorrectly it even still only produces less than .02ppm.

What kind of chemicals are used for perms? Can they affect your scalp?

I got my hair permed 25 weeks ago when my hair was waist length and damaged from ombre. I have since then went to coloring my hair blue black and mantaining my new a-line bob. My perm is still in tact but often times I feel like after so long my roots are very flat and growing in. I just colored my hair jet blue black one week ago. When do you think it would be good to touch up my perm?

How about for someone like me. I have silky straight hair, but I want to get a Brazilian Blowout. Does my hair will be permanently be damaged?

I'm not sure if she explained the Brazilian Blowout correctly? It seems like what she is describing is more closely related to the Keratin blowout treatment. This is a stronger solution and "straightens" your hair more. If you are truly looking for a straightening treatment, then a relaxer is what you want. From what I know, a Brazilian Blowout is more of a "smoothing" treatment. It cuts your dry time in half and decreases frizz. If you have wavy/curly hair... you will still have wavy/curly hair.

Is it ever possible to get a blowout to control frizz but a perm to get the curl?

So if I dye my hair and get a blow out will that be too damaging?

had the Brazalian blow out it was nice but its keratin I think.. Im thinking to do a spiral perm the perm that comes out as nice as the girl from bounce curl from the productive.. my question is what the different between permanet beach wavy and spiral perm.. and is there any curly perm that last to a year ?.. wish you can make a video of curl perms and product and how to care for it and also pool season too..

Wondering what your feelings are today regarding Brazilian blowouts. I'm considering it as my underneath hair is quite wavy but the top is straight. I use Olia medium blonde roots (home) with salon highlights. Worried that the formaldehyde will damage my hair in the long run. Any advice?

Can you perm bleach blonde hair? I really want a 3B curl pattern

I really want to get a perm because my hair doesn’t know what it wants to do 😂. Some parts are wavy some parts are poker straight. After I have a bath/shower I braid (just a normal braid) hair and sleep and then in the morning my hair is wavy. I love my hair like this. It only lasts for around a day. And I don’t have the time to do it every single day.

I have always wanted curly hair and I am useless with a curling iron!!

carlmax25 Brazilian Blowout is just a brand of keratin treatment (and the most well known). They are all keratin treatments, each company just has their particular protein patented, and they different companies proteins are derived from different sources (virgin lamp wool, silk, synthetic, etc)

I grew up in Venezuela and all my friends had curly kinky hair and they all got their hair blown out every three days! Crazy! I was the only one with pin straight hair but I would never have spent so much time and money on my hair v

I disagree with your thought on perming, if the hair is in good shape and your wrapping correctly, you can achieve it! Also using olaplex is a game changer ❤️

Why don't you do a double tool wrap so that you get all of the length evenly. I have seen great results with that method.

How long do Brazilian blowouts last?

The only con about Brazilian blowouts other than what you said, is that they contain formaldehyde in them which hurts not only the client but the technician as well. This chemical has been reduced in most of the products being sold but are still harmful and can cause long term effects which sucks because they turn out gorggg

If you have bleached hair, would you still recommend the brazilian blowout ?

lounette11 A keratin treatment would be better. I used eternity liss cacau on bleached hair and it was a miracle. If your hair can take 7 passes with a 450°F/230°C hot flat Iron, then you can go with it. As far as I know, traditional brazilian blowout that has to be neutralized, can't be applied to bleached hair.

Hello Sylvia! So my question is a very specific one. Thank goodness I decided to not just go ahead with this idea. My question is, is it okay to apply hair relaxer to hair that has been bleached?

I got a perm like 10 years ago. Cost me $70 and it faded so fast. lol. My hair didn't go back to being jet straight, though. Which I love.

I just went to the salon and picked up L'anza Keratin Hair Treatment oil...just wondering what your thoughts are on that brand. I've heard great reviews about it and used it today for the first time. Lilac Keratin processes are a permanent straightening process. Brazilian blowout is not, lasts up to 12 weeks.

i have both sides of my head shaven, think death hawk minus they teasing and spiking. my hair still falls apart all over the place though which is a pain to style them. would a blow out be able to keep them in that sleeked back but volumous texture?

I love the perm solution smell hott

after bleaching my hair its very dry I wish to do apply a perm japanese straightening or keratien but im afraid so im just using alot of hair masks but its still dry beside my hair is not naturally silky im half turkish and half african so my hair is curly but not too much and it's a pixie and im shy to shoe it i keep wsring wigs so is there is a perm for bleached hair - blonde hair???

I don’t agree with you on this video. You can have semi bleached hair and have a perm. I had it done by a professional hair stylist and it looks gorgeous!! I deep condition it 1x per week and use a regular conditioner everyday that I shower. Ladies there is a way to have gorgeous curls.

I must be the minority but I found the eyelashes distracting. Great info though!

Hi Thanks a lot for sharing such wonderful information. I am following your tips every now and then and I almost like them all. But on this specific video as I have experienced it myself, I am not agreeing with what you are saying respectfully, the damage this job offers to your hair ends up in cutting your hair to pixies no matter how much money time and products you spend for treating your hair even after a year or two. Chemicals horribly ruin your hair !
