ALL WHEEL DRIVE swap DISABLES THE ENTIRE TRUCK

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Thanks to Keeps for sponsoring this video! Head to keeps.com/lawrenceLT to get 50% off your first Keeps order.
I've been talking about AWD swapping my silverado for a very long time, and its finally done. Sure, there are lots of 4wd truck out there, but very few true all wheel drive sport trucks exist. My COPO stepside will now join the ranks of the GMC Syclone, GMC typhoon, Silverado SS, or Trailblazer SS. While 4wd is useful off road, or even in a straight line at the drag strip, with a 4wd truck you can't turn on pavement with 4wd engaged, as it will bind up and possibly break parts. Just like an Audi, WRX STI, Porsche, Lamborghini, or any other all wheel drive performance car, the COPO silverado will now be able to send power to all four wheels all the time, even while driving on pavement, plus there's no waiting for a 4wd actuator to engage. All wheel drive, all the time.

Honestly as a diesel mechanic working on semi trucks I don't know many shops that actually have truck lyfts. Everything I do is on the floor clutches differential reseal engine over hauls brakes suspension. I'm talking semi trucks like Peterbuilt kenworth freightliner. Honestly working on the ground is actually easier then a stupid lyft. it's also faster then a lyft anyone that thinks mechanics working in a shop is easy is clearly inexperienced. I mean most mechanics do side jobs on the weekends and when me as a diesel mechanic I do road calls out of a tiny truck meaning I fix the trucks that break down on the side of the road. Most mechanics while doing side jobs generally don't have air compressor or a lyft we do it the same way as any other person just trying to get their car running the difference is we have much more knowledge on how to work without fancy shit I mean primitive tools. There was a time when lyfts didn't exist ND u just worked on the cars cus it's fun

It's the bcm. You should be able to unplug everything 4wd, yank every 4wd fuse, including the front diff fuse, and disconnect the battery for 10 min. When it powers back on and sees nothing from 4wd it then ignores it from then on. Same deal with the 2500 burbs auto ride. It's fully electric, not air, and has to have a ton unplugged, removed, etc. If you don't do the bat reset it goes into theft mode.

all joking aside you know this for a fact? does it also disable all the 4wd codes that will be thrown or does it actually disable the entire system alltogether and the ecm and bcm just play along and not store codes for missing modules, actuator codes etc etc? and what years is this verified on? seriously interested. is this like the 10,10,10 trick to "reprogram" gm ecus from the junkyards into another car without having to get the key programmed, vin number and all that jazz? i also heard you can do the 10,10,10 trick and as soon as you start the car/truck for the very first time and you yank the bcm plugs really quickly and it basically just turns off security alltogether .. havent verified that last one yet but i did hear something like that.

@@gregthemechanicman I know it for a fact. I've done it for the 2500 suburbans on 5 2000 to 2002s. First one I did went into theft mode. You can also reprogram the bcm with the rpo codes using a tech 2 and you don't need to worry about the trick. However the trick only works for deleting things, if you add something to the system it has to be programmed in or all hell breaks loose. I was explained by a gm tech it was designed as a failsafe mode that when all signals are lost from an onboard system, if in an emergency, you can do this to get it home.

@@davemcdaniel4856 Yup! I’m a GM tech too. When things are taken out that the bum is programmed for, it doesn’t like it. Some of the older bcms, you can use the tech 2 to unselect options thus fixing any issues from removing or unplugging components.

Swapping the 2wd frame for a 4x4 Blazer Zr2 frame and converting to AWD, turbo'ing the 4.3L V6 and even try using the GMC Jimmy headlights and grill with the Xtreme bumper. LT I've been watching this series cause I'm in the middle of a 04 escalade AWD project. Waiting to see how you incorporate the 4l80 as that's my plan eventually. It's going to be a stroked 5.3 with a single turbo

That's a bit of heavy lifting from the floor 💪 😳 ouch. But worth every but of effort put into the project once done. 4:30 ratio is pretty good for the 4l60e. Not sure what 1st gear is for 4l80 but I bet it's a good ratio. Have a good week !

That pocket that you put in there would be a great place to put the stock 01-02 escalade traction control button... use it as a momentary switch with a latching relay for a scramble button or something.

I have an 88 Chevy Stepside I want to air ride lay frame and go all wheel drive. I bought a 94 Z71 I'm stripping for the frame. The main issue is making the driveline work. I am also swapping the rear suspension to an independent suspension. The reason for the IRS is suspension travel without having to add the large hump in my bed. This will make the bed appear stock while still allowing the truck the lay low and even lay out at the show. I also have a 98 Dually that wont stay running. All it will do is start then die in a second. The engine and transmission was swapped from another truck.

2500/3500 frames are only missing a couple front mounting brackets. Converting from auto to manual is very easy. Already got 4 conversions done and still on the road. Yes cruise still works

@@sethh8892 NV4500, it can bolt up to the 6.0L/ 5.3: engine block. This same transmission also bolts up to the die hard Cummins 5.9L. Very easy to self rebuild the transmission. You just need to make sure you get a NV4500 that is setup for GM applications. Also make sure to get the cross member for the manual. T56 is good if your aim is a fast cruiser/ burnout maker.

@Lawrence LT Tolman @@sethh8892 with these years the gear ratios 4L80E compared to NV4500. 4L80E ratios : 1: 2.482 2: 1.482 3: 1.00 4: 0.75 R: 2.077 NV4500 gear ratios 1st = 5.61 2nd = 3.04 3rd = 1.67 4th = 1.00 5th = 0.75 R = 5.04 Manual can work with heavier loads than automatics. With a manual trans the system can operate without issue just running 110amp alternator. Automatic systems need 130amp+ alternators. Engine will also run cooler as it is not having to cool the trans as well. Compared to automatic no power is lost between engine and the tires. You don't have to worry about automatic doing the shift panic when you are between gear hauling going uphill. If you plan on staying with the 4L80E then do every cooling upgrade you can. Two to four quart extra capacity aluminum deep dish pan for transmission. These upgrades work for me; Tru-cool model# 47391 , Cool Case model # GMT569A , TSI model# 4L80DPK-A .

@@frostybandit1 I'm pretty sure there is power lost between the engine and the rear tires regardless of what style of transmission your you use, this is simply due to basic laws of thermodynamics. There is always heat generated from the transmission and therefore that means there is energy transfer, which means there is energy lost from the load of the trans. But I can definitely see a manual transmission being more efficient, as it's not relying on fluids, only direct gearing.

with that GM communications network if I remember right, there is a start and an end. I think some networks loop, but anyways with that if you delete a module from the network depending on where it is in the network you might end up deleting another modules communication to the network or even several modules by accident then also some modules need to be reflashed to no longer communicate with the module you have deleted. all modules still connected to the network will set codes saying they have lost communication with the modules disconnected and the modules disconnected will not communicate because they no longer have a path to the data link connector. it sounds like you have a broken link in your communication chain and that may be fine for what your doing or you might run into communication issues. pull up a diagram of the communication network and see if anything has to pass through the 4x4 module.

Wow still has the original front rotors i see. Only last a few years up here in the northeast. I would replace those bearings in the AWD front diff and check the threaded adjustment locks. They always go bad in the AWD vehicles somewhere after 100k and ruin a case half when they spin out.

More than likely your theft deterrent problem is due to you moving the column to remove the 4wd switch. There are 3 small wires that plug into the sensor at the lock cylinder case and they will cause issues. You MAY be able to find the issue at the terminals where they go into the connectors, check both ends. Honestly I never actually FOUND the issue, I would just always replace the ignition switch which comes with that harness.
