Being able to put your own HDDs or SSD in this NAS is going to make this such an amazing product. Allowing all your cameras stream to it... I just can't wait for this! Great job Wyze Labs!

Alright, well here is literally everything we know about the MaxDrive! Hope you guys like all the info. Let me know what you think of the idea of using this for your cameras? Do you like the idea of local storage of the footage or would you rather it be up in the cloud and pay a subscription?

so if use my own NAS , (HDD plugged into my routers USB 3.0 port) the i can use the max drive app but do i need to have an always on device like a PC or android box for it to transfer to the NAS from the Sd card ,or do you think it will work with no always on PC? also not thrilled with the idea of it recording from the SD card since i have not even been able to get SD card playback to work for more than short time and it is very buggy and stops working after like a day every time and requires me to formatt the card again which laos fail most of the time

I haven't been able to try it at the moment with a different HDD connected. Not sure if doing it over USB connected to your router will work either. Honestly I'd download the max drive app and see if detects your HDD. If it does I'd assume then it will work. As for the SD cards, yeah was hoping not to have to go through that way, but it's only that way at launch. They are planning and working on being able to record straight to the drive without the SD card. But again, we will have to see once it comes out how well it all works.

It’s a pity Wyze didn’t go ahead with developing this drive technology instead of earbuds and vacuum cleaners.

Hahahah!!! I’d have to totally agree, but sadly it wasn’t theirs to develop, they were just piggybacking on another companies hardware and when they pulled out, Wyze didn’t have another option. But we will see, from those I’ve talked with, the project isn’t scrapped, just some setbacks and gone underground.

Nice work on the DIY table haha! Under $100 for the unit, let alone $70, they won't be able to keep these things in stock man. I don't like the idea of the MaxDrive having a separate app, I wish it was all done in 1 app. I don't want to have more apps installed than I need and having more than 1 app for the cameras is just slightly annoying, to me. The backup of the SD is fine by me, not recording directly to it doesnt really bother me too much. I liked this format man, keeping it simple and just informing us on the details you have.

Hey Aaron! Thanks for watching. Yeah I didn't like the idea of two apps either, but I think its mainly because they are partnering with MaxDrive and not just making their own. SO that is probably why the two apps, and as long as I don't have to keep it...or even if I could use their website to set it up and never have to download the app, that will be even better. But we will see. My biggest issue is that I have to have a SD card in every camera... I don't want to have to do that. But that's my cheapness getting out. Hahaha, yeah figured a table would be helpful...didn't have one so tada, make my own.

Great information! I am standing by to purchase mine as soon as it comes available. Currently, when WyzeCams are set to record continuously, eventually the microSD cards fill up and the oldest video footage is erased as the new footage is recorded, providing up to several days of video review. Will the MaxDrive work similarly? Thanks again!

Hello Mr. McNeal! As far as I know no, the microSD cards work this way so you don't have to keep an eye on it when it fills up. The MaxDrive will act like your hard drive on your PC, once its full, its full. There might be an option to overwrite, but I don't see that happening. And depending on the format and the size of everything you might be able to have smaller microSD cards in the cameras and just back up to the MaxDrive every night, so you wont lose anything. But we will see as time comes closer to the release. Thanks for watching!

Personally run my own linux-based NAS/file server...looking forward to using it to serve as the backup without needing another device. Too bad it can't record in real time to the MaxDrive/app though.

  • @GrossTechnology

That is a good option as well! The ability to record real time is supposed to come in the future, so we will just have to be patient.

So it's been 10 months. I can't find any information on MaxDrive on Wyze website. Has MaxDrive and Wyze integration been cancelled?

Sadly yes, the two companies couldn’t get thing to work together so they said it would be put on hold and possibly scratched. Sad because it’s what they really need. But good news is their new outdoor cameras supposedly connect to a main base kinda like the Arlo, so we shall see if that gets integrated into it.

Yup, but that was because the partner company they were working with pulled it out. So they had to.

You really need to check you audio levels when you record, running it through a good EQ wouldn't hurt either.

@@GrossTechnology theres a ton of free programs out there you could use to EQ, but I think if you did a sound check watching your levels before you start recording would go a long way. You're already using a lav mic which is great, your levels are just low.

CCWSig So are you saying that the volume of me is too low? Because it’s perfect on my phone, and desktop. I have more of an issue with peaking. And the volume on my phone isn’t even half way up.

  • @CCWSig

    @CCWSig

@@GrossTechnology volume is only part of it. Your audio is very thin, lacking body. It almost sounds to me as though your recording levels are low, and your boosting gain in post production. I've checked it on multiple devices. Part of it, and I dont mean any offense, it just is what it is, the tone of your voice. You have a heavy "nasal" voice, again not bad, just is what it is, and theres lots of "sibilance" in your audio. These sounds are fatiguing on the ears. You have good content, but without good audio, subscribers, and more important viewer retention will suffer. I was suggesting a EQ, you could bring up the lows a little in 150hz range but dont go crazy, just a little more fullness. Dial it back in the 800hz-1khz range to cut out a little of the nasal sound that can get fatiguing, and play around with dialing back in the 7-8khz to get rid of some of the sibilance. This is all just my opinion. Just some of my thoughts, I hope you dont take offence.

NAS drive? I think that there are mixed feelings...on one hand should I use subscriptions and pay for it or purchase the NAS drive plus a HD, NAS is approx $70-80 add the HDD SO Maybe $100.00+. Depending on the cost of subscriptions estimate maybe $5-10 month or yearly $120.00 roughly but you dont have to manage your files. I hate subsciptions especially managing them. How much a month, week etc and when does it expire so I can hopefully stop it before another charge on and on SHEESH! I prefer the NAS preference especially if I decide to maintain a lot cam recordings plus according to your video I could use it for other programs/applications. Managing a NAS is not very hard but requires some house keeping chores which some chores can be automated. But nothing Iike reviewing NAS files personally evry once in a while. I definitely vote on the NAS and push away subscriptions. Thanks

I am totally with you on this one! I hate paying any monthly subscription to use a product. But sadly, Wyze has announced that the MaxDrive has been put on hold or on the back burner. The company they were working with on the project basically said we have other things we have to do and left the table. So it’s kinda up in the air to whether it will actually ever happen. But I’m hopeful that it shall, just not sure when.
