All the SMALL Models I have in my STASH! I might have an addiction . . .

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

Building scale models and collecting them are two seperate hobbies! I know this from experience as I seem to have more in my stash than I will or have ever completed!
Many people wanted to see what I have in the stash - so here it is! Kinda . . .
As I have so many models I thought it would be a good idea to show you all the "small" kits I have, a second video will eventually be made to feature all the larger kits.
Join me in this video as I finally come to terms with how many plastic model kits I really have in my stash!
Please don't judge me . . .

@Cmndr Roy Fokker I know alot of modelers who look down on those of us that don't build the most complicated or difficult kits. He definitely seems like he is one of those. I wouldn't say it's a sense of humour thing, as he's not joking.

@Cmndr Roy Fokker His history of rude comments in the past says otherwise. Definitley agree with your point though. Some people seem to think they'll gain social status by building the most overcomplicated, pain inducing kits out there (I'm looking at you, Revell T90!)

It's a hard reality. Some kits are short run editions, some are limited, some are so hard to get (because they quickly disappear from shops), some are true unicorns and some are just great offers on auctio so it would be real shame not to try to obtain them. Besides, I've noticed model kits got more expensive recently, not much, but still and I'm glad I bought some back in a day. Some models can put on value with time, so if your modelling days would pass eventually, you can leave them for someone or sell with good prize

Oh my goodness... I had such a wash of nostalgia just now coming across your video, it actually brought a tear to my eye. The Airfix Folland Gnat on the thumbnail brought a flood of memories of my dear mum. It must have been one of the first kits she ever bought me. We didn't have much growing up in the early 70's, but she indulged my model making hobby whenever she could. I didn't do them justice, being a little kid, but they will now serve one purpose as I still have them in a cupboard, and that is to remind me of those special days and one special lady. A heartfelt thanks Matt for bringing back some 'lost' memories. I haven't touched a kit since 83 and, like yours, it's untouched, still in the box - a Revell History Makers Gemini capsule. A birthday present from, you guessed it, dear ol' mum. You have inspired me also to get back into modelling. Thanks again.

The Academy kit is really great, one version of the Academy kit gives you the rotary engine for the French license built version. There is a flight worthy one around where I live. They are amazing for short take offs and landings. When the Monogram twin Mustang came out. Monogram and Revell were completely separate companies. The white Nakajima Kate with the green crosses is in the Japanese surrender markings. There are even photos of Betty Bombers in those markings.

I think every scale modeller can relate to this stash video. We end up buying a nice collection of models, because we like the subjects & we want to build a model of it . But instead of making the kits already in the stash; we get more because we like the look of them. But fear not there are things in life much worse to become addicted to, than collecting & making scale model kits. However if you are feeling like you have got one, too many kits. Just go through them and think "do I want to build that?". Put them to one side to sell or donate them to a charity like MODELS FOR HEROES. That's what I ended up doing. I ended up donate about 7 or 8 kits to MODELS FOR HEROES, a few months ago. That I had lost any interest in building. It’s always a great feeling when you donate to a charity of any kind. Plus it helps to free up space. Anyway great video Matt. It was nice to see what you have got in your collection.

Bro.... I had a painful realization, over the past couple decades, that I unintentionally became a collector. I don't know how many kits I had in total, but I'm sure it reached easily over the 100 mark. I bought them only with the intention of building them. Life, however played the same cruel trick on me that it has played on most of us. I ran out of time, space etc. Gaps in employment made it neccessary for me to sell quite allot of them on Ebay over several years. That was a painful, but liberating experience. I still have quite a few kits... still more than I have room for, but hopefully I will be gifted with time and space to construct some of them. Going to cry heavily in my coffee now... pardon me.

I can totally relate to this, I am a keen 1/35th scale vehicle modeller, I started as a teenager, stopped for 25 years (but kept all my old unmade kits) and restarted three years ago. My collection is vast, over 300 kits and mainly WWII (good job I have a man cave to store them in), I just enjoy collecting new models and adding them to my collection but I don't think I will be able to build them all in my lifetime, however, they often become more valuable as they become rare to find. Collection is part of the enjoyment as well as constructing and painting them, I am enjoying rekindling my younger days and developing new skills (airbrushing, photoetch and resin parts) so no need to feel guilty.

I love that DHC Twin Otter. It's an old Matchbox kit, and I've had several, and never had any fit problems. Matchbox kits did have some annoying quirks, but fit was never one of them. Matchbox were great, as they made subjects nobody else did. Their inter-war Armstrong-Whitworth Siskin, is still one of my all-time favourite model kits. Likewise, the Dapol/Airfix crane. That dates to possibly the late 1950's. It can be made to work. I've got a couple of them in my stash - they're good for greeblies on sci-fi models. Bits turn up all over TV shows like 'Stingray' and 'Thunderbirds'. The Thunderbirds kits are retools of the earlier IMAI kits. I have all those,(over many, many years) so didn't bother getting the new ones. I was hoping that they had been retooled, to remove the 'play' features of the older IMAI kits, which took a lot of hacking away at missile launchers, overscale wheels, etc. The Academy 'Storch' (Stork) comes with a 1/72 scale VW 'Kubelwagen' ('Bucket Car'), and is superior to the Airfix version in all respects. The 'Blue Box' Airfix Spitfire Vb, in the markings of 303 Squadron ace, Jan Zumbach, dates from the 1970's. I had one when I was still at school. Very nice kit, though. Not a problem - very similar to my stash. Although you always say to yourself: "No more. That's it." Ten minutes later, you're flicking through a copy of 'Flypast', and think: "I don't have a kit of a Bronco..." When Airfix were brought back to life, I made a point of buying all the kits that I'd made as a kid. A lot of kits. 😂😂😂

I know exactly how you feel! I've got some kits dating back over forty years, a lot of 1/700 Tamiya and other Japanese kits which were left in the old 'back of garage' workroom. Some of them have had their boxes converted into mouse nests but they didn't touch the kits in their poly bags! Some of the battleships were about £2.99 according to their price tickets! Two of the kits in my collection which really bug me are the two I can't find anywhere (but I know they're here) - a Heller 1/200 German Pocket Battleship, possibly the Graf Spee and the other is a Japanese (Konami?) kit of a Gerry Anderson UFO SHADO Moonbase Interceptor either 1/35 or 1/48 scale which I bought in Sydney around 1990 on holiday! I want them!!

Hey, everyone is a collector of something. Here in the great state of Texas, most people collect firearms. There's people with vast shoe collections. Having model kits A) takes up less space, B) isn't as expensive and C) if you're into it, retain a large amount of value and sellability (I don't do that but still.) Also, having a nice, relaxing hobby like building model kits or lego is good for your mental health. I've never been happier than when I have something on in the background and I'm building a model kit. Those who judge should look at themselves too, everyone collects something.

If you want to motorise the Railbus, you should get in touch with the guys at Budget Model Railways as I believe that they have already motorised a model of this kit. It turned out pretty damn and runs very nicely. I’m sure they would only be too happy to give you any advice you may need to motorise this kit.

Yeah I know the guys at budget model railways, if I remember correctly they used an old Lima chassis to power the rail bus kit. My plan is to create a specific chassis that is as simple as I can make it so that anyone can do it using off the shelf parts and a bit of 3D printing, but still not made much progress there yet

It's not as great as Tamiya or Fine Molds, it has some issues, but it's relatively cheap in Joy Pack (3 models in 1 box, plastic only, no decals). These Eduard's Bf-109s are gorgeous, must agree with you

Hi Matt It was illuminating to see your stash but 83 is quite small compared with my stash which numbers some 800 + kits. Yes I have a bigger problem There are a couple of warnings I have to make you aware of. Firstly the Ta 152 is actually the old Frog kit and the He-70 is and ICM kit. The He -70 is a really nice kit and worth a good bash at but it has a serious flaw in the wing roots engineering as you will find out. you will need to whittle the spar sections to allow the wings to fit properly and after that its a real gem. The Academy P-51s are terrible but fun to build and the Revell Spitfires are new and older tooling kits both not that accurate mate. I did a project on my channel of the older tooling Airfix Mk-Vb Spitfire and it still has it mate. I may well do a video on my stash which will probably blow peoples minds I know my wife just stares at it in disbelief. Good video mate and I will check out you bigger stuff.

We're not here to judge, just want to see what you've got! Some of us have large stashes because you have to buy kits (and even aftermarket parts) you're interested when they come out; if you wait until you're "ready" to build, the kit will no longer be in production and difficult/expensive to obtain. Buy when you can or you miss out. I've missed the 1/48 Wessex, 1/35 FV 432, resin detail sets for 1/48 Sea Harriers....

I don't have a stash, Matt. In my wonderful world of kit building, there is the kit I'm currently building, the kits I have finished and behind all of those are the kits that are awaiting their turn to be built and these seldom number more than two, or three max. Perhaps if I had a wide range of interests then I'd have a stash I guess, but now my interest is pre-nuclear Submarines, USN & RN only and further limited to 1/72 I'll finish those up; PDQ. Flicking through the net recently, I've scoped the next kits RAF MTB with a big roundel painted at the forward quarter, from WW2 and a USN PBR from the Vietnam War era. Those should see me out.

Hi Matt - enjoyed the video - please do the warship model (and other ships) - when I started modelling in the 1970's as a teenager I started with aircraft, moved to tanks and then on to warships ( having read HMS Ulysses by Alistair Maclean). At one point I had completed all the 2WW warships in the Airfix range unfortunately they were left in the loft when my parents moved house in the 1980's and I was away reading for my degree.so I lost them all. Now I'm thinking of retirement I have decide to start modelling again and have my own stash ready to go - a mix of aircraft, tanks and, of course, warships. Cheers

Hi. I have been a great fan of Airfix 1/72 , 1/72 scale kits for many years now. This fascination also includes the Matchbox range which came out and which I found equal to if not better than the Airfix offerings. I have stuck to mainly 1/76 or1/72 mainly due to space problems. My collection does include some of the very small sailing ships which I found cute but not as fascinating as the main scales in my collection. I have however now changed completely over to G.W.R. steam railway modelling in 1/76 scale and mostly heritage railway models. My models will now be housed in a new garden shed which I had built last year and once I get over my illness, I will start modelling seriously, at last.

They don't have to be in builds. I love looking at my stash. Or the hobby shop in my spare room. I have bought every kit I would like to build. To all out there, the figures are "VINYL" like many figure kits in larger scale. These require (acrylic primer) then any paint will work. However, being soft & bendy, paint will still crack. I still love the figures though. Available in RAF, Luftwaffe & USAAF. I bought an opened FW-200 with no clear parts. That took me quite a while to secure vacuformed replacements. I have close to 200 kits to build. I love the Airfix Control tower. I would not build it without doing interior.

Thank you so much for this video! It makes me feel less guilty of owning so many kits and not actually beginning any of them haha

I managed to get through all mine so I got a few more but I decided to get a range of scales (I mainly do 1/72). I got a tamiya mosquito 1/48 and a revell 747. I'll probably get more.

the vintage classics tiger 1 from my experience isnt the best kit but its perfect to try out some new techniques such as shell craters from where it could have been hit. Because of how flat the detail is its easy to work with

I was thinking of doing a comparison of this versus the newer version from airfix

I’ve got a few dozen still in boxes as well. If I get around to building them I then have the next problem of where to display them.
