This is not only a cautionary story about love but also about friendship. There are people who immediately forget their old friends because their lives took a turn for the better and when life brings them down to the ground, they look for their old friends again.

It’s a shame she was so excited to finally be “beautiful” that she not only treated Arinze terribly, as her village bachelors had treated her, but she also forgot about her desire to marry for love, and about her own inner beauty. It reminds me that when people who’ve been constantly knocked down finally get the type of power denied them, they often become the very thing that knocked them down and hurt them so much. Edit: I feel like people think I’m excusing her behavior or her views, when I’m just sharing my own interpretation. Perhaps they should look inward and stop projecting on a fictional character…?

BS she never wanted love she just told herself that because she had no options. What she truly wanted was to have the same thing the people around her have and if possible for it to be better than theirs. That’s why the Bible says thou shalt not covet.

This is what loneliness and insecurity can do to somebody. By the time they get a chance to be the person they wanted to be they disregard anything that reminds them of how they used to feel. She really lost a good man because he truly loved her for who she was even when she was at her lowest. All the other men only liked her for her looks and status. If she were to marry them they would not truly love her

I’m new to this channel. I liked this story/fable; there are many layers. 1.) If you can’t recognize your own beauty, no amount of love or praise from people will change that. 2.) Unexpected events can interrupt our lives at inconvenient times to challenge our character. It is our responsibility to recognize this as a test and ensure we pass. 3.) True beauty is how we treat the ones who really care for us. I think I’ll stick around this channel. I like the vibe. 😊

I loved this tale, the ending hit different for me. I met a great guy 8 years ago who absolutely loved and adored me. He was everything most women wanted in a man but as time passed i realized that I was not developing true love for him. I looked at his short comings all the time and never the best parts of him, so I eventually broke up with him because I felt he deserved someone to truly love him. After all he was a great guy. 2 years after we hung out and so much had happened in both our lives, and he shared how he had intended on marrying me. At that time I was in love with someone who was all wrong for me, and all I thought was awww how sweet. Here I am 7 years later 39 years old and single and I think back to that time and this story reminds me of the great love that I let slip away. I hope he is well and truly loved these days ❤

I listened to this story because it resonated with me. As a plus sized woman, she was already pure of heart and mind. She was who she was meant to be. She was who God made her to be. It was when she tried to be different and like everyone else that she lost her way. God didn’t meant us all to be the same. That’s why there are different color flowers and different types of people. It’s when you wish to be other than you are that you get in trouble, and when someone else sees you for the unique person you are, you should cherish it, if there is no evil intention in their heart.

Beautiful story. Actually, I think it revealed a fragile heart, conditioned by a society of conforming expectations of being slim that clouded a person who at that time never experienced such attention due to being the desired status quo. Attention that her sisters would have been guided through/with rather than this princess who wasn't accepted for being her regardless of shape. Therefore, she was expected to act like a princess, so she forgot her inner truth. 🎉 He was foolish for not forgiving her and slowly giving her an opportunity as this would have healed this fragility whilst still learning an important lesson, for he also missed out on real love yet bet his fate wasn't going to the same? Typically, a woman in stories seems to suffer more for her mistakes and lessons learnt than an equivalent male making the same mistakes. Double standards?

Thanks for sharing this wonderful story and so beautifully illustrated! It reminds me of a true life experience I observed. I went to school with a girl who had terrible teeth. They were all over the place and distorted her face shape. My friends and I thought that she was treated badly and defended her. However, on one occasion, shortly after she had started orthodontic treatment, I felt moved to share my own experience with braces and explained how my teeth were almost completely straight thanks to my orthodontist and that I was sure her treatment would reap positive results. To my astonishment she sneered and said she didn't care to hear my boasts and that she would end up being much prettier than me. I was so stunned I was temporarily speechless. Her words were overheard by many people who had been previously sympathetic and they were disgusted and said so. Eventually she apologised to me, under pressure from them. Several of my friends and I could tell that her apology was not genuine and I confess I avoided her from that day onwards. However mutual friends mentioned her from time to time. Over the years her teeth were straightened and she started to dress fashionably. She was never the beauty she predicted she would be but she was extremely vain and very critical of the appearance of others and unkind in other ways. Not everyone learns the right lessons from being mocked. Not all outsiders are good people. Compassion and modesty are essential qualities all people need to value.

What a great story! I like that it has twists and a realistic ending with moral values rather than the usual fairytale happy ending. And I guess I am shallow but I really love all the African dresses and gowns in the illustrations! So stunning and fashionable, fit for the runway! Not only the dresses, of course, all the illustrations in general are superb! As a matter of fact, I clicked on this video simply because of the thumbnail and I am sure glad I did!

This is a powerful love story. And I think that it pertains to many of us today. I think that many focus on the outward beauty of a person, their material worth, and the clothing that they wear instead of looking and focusing on what matters the most, and that is, the heart of a person. A person can look good, have a lot of material wealth and wear all the latest fashions, and still have an ugly heart that lacks real true love.

Ego means ego, it was her spirit that was mean and self centered, once she lost weight, her TRUE personality came out, being a princess there were privileges that came along with being born into royalty, she turned her nose up to the one true love who accepted her regardless of her size, she didn't realize he was looking for the same love and acceptance, someone who wanted a meaningful relationships, the table turned and she was in the same position as before, the moral of this story for me is, when love calls you better answer...

Wow! What an amazing and beautiful story with an African context! I think this should be adapted into a play and into a movie! People these days need to hear a beautiful story like this. As for me, I am reminded to treat my friends, who have been there for me through thick and thin, better. They really deserve more from me as a friend. I pray that I never fall to being egotistical or obnoxious or anything of that sort. People who grow into fame or wealth tend to have amnesia when they get to that point in their lives and quickly forget those who were there for them. This should be a lesson for all of us.

Ppl r not prepared for the new persona after great changes in their lives. I have seen the same when training a few obese women. The energy, the ideas, and the new perspectives require patience from the ppl in their surroundings. Also, I saw a possessive man feed an athletic young woman to extreme obesity. As she gained less and less attractions, he now had the freedom to roam for more conquest. He got gonorrhea and crabs on the same night. So, her change of circumstances might not have brought out the best in them as a couple. While her ego, suppressed for so long, exploded past the normality of her life, she already had the habit of indulgence.now she had different hungers. Faced with enforced isolation....
