    It was, in a weird hidden way, the real villain song of the movie. It sets up Abuela's origins and motivation for the entire movie (and her life) and the reason why she messes things up mistaking the importance of her home vs her family; and it puts her into a completely sympathetic light.

    "We Don't Talk About Bruno" should totally win him the Oscar. The entire score is good, but that particular song is excellent, as it weaves in backstory and characterization for almost the entire cast. And where I do have nitpicks on particular lines in some of the other songs, "Bruno" is perfect.

Jobim's work was (and is) absolutely legendary and I'm so happy that Miranda took inspiration from him. Sr. Serrat I'm not familiar with, but if they're comparing him to Sr. Jobim he must also be amazing.

I noticed my second time watching it that when they’re preparing for dinner and all of them are singing, they’re in the same room that Bruno’s makeshift room is adjacent to and you know that he’s thinking “guys I’m right here…” Also he’s in the background of Dolores’ first part of that song vibing. It’s actually the funniest thing.

Everything was so realistic and detailed yet so Disney-like at the same time. I felt like I was in the movie. Second, the cast for this movie is amazing. Their voices match the diverse personalities of their characters and their singing voices are great. Third, Lin Manuel Miranda did a terrific job with the songs in the movie. I believe the trauma had to do with Miguel's great great grandfather Hector leaving the family for his career, which in turn made hector's wife raise coco on her own without music and the following generations (Miguel's grandma and her child/children) were raised without it as well. They were also all raised without ever knowing that Hector tried to come back but he died before he could get back home because his partner Ernesto (the villain) poisoned him.

    I'd have to rank the songs on how much emotion I felt when listening to them. I totally agree that We Don't Talk About Bruno is an awesome song and deserves all of the accolades that it has received but I think Dos Oruguitas probably hit me hardest. At the end of the day though, I could never rank these songs because all of them are so great. Thank you Lin-Manuel Miranda.

    Surface Pressure really resonated with me the most, as an oldest sibling who did end up having to carry a lot of metaphorical weight that wasn't placed on my younger sibs' shoulders. At 43 I still haven't shaken off the feeling that if I can't be useful to the family I'm not worth anything.

    Dude that song really made me cry and hit right at home...the part that really made me(oldest sister) and my two other (younger)sisters waterfall cry was right at the part(my two sisters also hugged me in the theater) where after floating in the clouds,they suddenly fall back to Earth and all the stones,the house are being held by luisa and she's struggling to hold the weight up(rep.me), and Maribel's face of concern when the weight is about to crush Luisa?...really made my youngest sister appreciate everything I've done and sacrificed for her, it made her realize why I'm stressed, tired and depressed most times..but my youngest sister now knows I'm harsh and tough not because I want to, but because I need to be to protect them despite my own well being...."give it to your sister and never Wonder, if the same pressure would've pulled you under, who am I if I don't have what it takes, No cracks no breaks NO MISTAKES no pressure"... 😭❤️

    Guess there always is the "one" who is given or taking on more on his or her shoulders for the family. Be the rock - well guys rocks wear down over time too with every new wave crushing on the surface. Really it can be anybody in the family of course, but I do get the feeling that it may be we, the older sibs, who find it resonating with us more often than not. Loved every piece of glorious music though - but Surface Pressure hit home for me.

    I relate to it very differently from the way it seems like a lot of people do. Ever since I was little, I've been the supporting character to my family's problems; I push my brother to go out of his comfort zone and help him deal with his anxiety, I stand there and take it when my mom's husband emotionally abuses me because I know if he doesn't do it to me he'll do it to my mother, and I call my mom on her shit when she gaslights herself into believing things that aren't true. Then, when I decide I want to go to college, I'm told that I will receive no help, and whenever I am forced to come home during breaks and such, I'm still treated like a punching bag. But I've learned, at this point, that there's nothing I can do. I will never be able to change them, and maybe once I'm not there to take the brunt of everything, once my mother is finally forced to open her eyes, things will change. I've realized that my existence in my own family is the barrier that has stopped my family from being able to grow because I've been carrying all of their problems on my shoulders instead of them. Unfortunately, I had to cut them off, but I have also never been happier in my life. I've never felt more like *me* in my life. And to be honest? I don't think I want to go back, ever.

    The house is her gift just like it was abuela's it's why it faded into the wall. Casita was hers and it reflected her feelings. She always pretended to be ok but she was breaking inside. So was Casita. That's why Bruno was in the walls patching all her cracks inside. It's not until she says she's not fine did the cracks show on the outside. It wasn't until she opened the front door did it glow and Casita took her inside with no words after waving to her just like abuela in the beginning and no one could come inside until mirabel invited them in. Abuela's house had to be destroyed to make way for the new Mirabel house.

  • @agathaplayziez4953

    @agathaplayziez4953

    2 жыл бұрын

    i like to think that Mirabel was the new candle, because she shares a very close bond with the house (as the candle was what made the house). and when the old Casita was destroyed, she was the one to rebuild and give it new life. perhaps the old candle ran out because it was already time to switch generations, as it has been running on for 50 years. or because Mirabel snapped during Mariano's proposal and the house reacts to it.

  • @bonkeu

    @bonkeu

    2 жыл бұрын

    i agree with agathaplayziez, but i also wanna add that abuela's power was not exactly the casita. she only made half of the casita, with help from pedro. i believe that his sacrifice, and her grief and prayer brought their town to life, so they only made half of the house together, while mirabel got the whole town together to build it. she brings everyone together. another detail is that every family clearly has their own colors, Pepa's family is yellow, Bruno is green, Abuela is pink, and Julieta's is blue, but mirabel's dress has the colors of every one of them. also, isabela's dress goes from pink to dark blue, showing that shes ready to break out of the mold abuela has made for her and that shes bonding with the rest of her family

    A "Luisa" in my family, I can say it's made for middle child TT that line "crushing weight of expectations" is so relatable cause we can't never be perfect as the first child... Like in movie Isabela received all praises doing despite not doing the "dirty job" but no one ever talks about Luisa helping the whole town with their problems... we are just overshadowed by our “isabela”
