    To answer Erika's question, I heard some people argue Doctor Who's version of 'jump the shark' was kill the moon, in which the moon turned out to be an alien egg the whole time, that hatched at the end of the episode only to be immediately replaced by an identical moon/egg layed by the previous alien while leaving

  • @Zaikaze

    @Zaikaze

    Жыл бұрын

    While I like this 'jump the shark' contender, I feel like it is overshadowed somewhat by the fact that we learned 8 years earlier in "The Runaway Bride" that the Earth itself was formed around a spaceship from the alien species "Racnoss", which was hiding from other aliens. Another option is the 1979 episode in which it is revealed that life on Earth began due to a Jagaroth (another alien species) spaceship exploding while trying to take off from a pre-life Earth with damaged thrusters. Edit: Oh and I forgot the 1981 one where we find out that the universe has actually long since passed the point of heat death and should have collapsed. But a race of aliens have been keeping the universe alive by using maths to funnel off the excess entropy. As in they beam equations into space and this maintains the existence of the universe. Doctor Who is wild yo.

  • @AspenBrightsoul

    @AspenBrightsoul

    Жыл бұрын

    @Zaikaze The first two I can accept given that life in Doctor Who seams too be as common as planetary bodies and it would be weird to have all these aliens and not have them interferewith early humanity. The last one I could totally see as some grand sci-fi novel with a galactic civilization growing up in the pipeworks of an alien super machine designed to save the universe, like that just sounds cool. An alien took a shit as big as itself and fucked off is just weird lazy writing.

    Kill the moon is a great episode. To me, It’s about Clara and 12’s conflict more than the actual moon thing. Chibnall making it so the time lords stole regeneration power from the doctor and therefore making the dr the most special thing in the universe might take the show out, though. But I think they can make a comeback. They always do.

    From what I recall of Korra, the ancient people lived on the backs of the lion turtles as protection against the various spirits that inhabited the world. When groups came out to hunt for food, the lion turtles would temporarily bestow them with bending abilities so they can have protection in the wild, which then gets removed when they come back. Wan basically ran away and didn't return his bending abilities, and befriended the spirits, and used his bending to protect them against other humans, which earned the trust of the spirits. I don't remember if he bonds with the light spirit before or after he goes to collect all 4 elements, but more and more people start to follow his lead and leave the turtles to survive on their own with bending powers, and Wan stops a human vs spirit war. Then separates the two species into different realms.

If it wasn't this complicated, some one would use it to attack the Dwarves. Also, if there was a specific snail/bird combo that lived only in the Lonely Mountain, it could be used to mark as part of the ritual to know they're in the right spot.

They could even speak each others' language - it was a thrush that told Bard the Bowman how to kill Smaug. As a kid I talked myself into accepting this weird detail of the map by thinking that maybe the thrush came back every Durin's Day in a small ceremony to mourn the friends he had lost there.

    Um, actually, your Avatar question mentions two separate things (gaining the ability to bend and *learning* to bend), and there's only the smallest of retcons involved, if any. The lion turtles gave people the *ability* to bend, but the beasts/spirits still taught people *how* to bend properly. This is also shown in the Korra episode you mentioned, where (future) Avatar Wan learns the Dancing Dragon form from a dragon in a montage. The larger problem with the initial statement is that while the Water Tribes revere both the Moon and Ocean Spirits, it's only the Moon Spirit that gets credited with teaching bending (from the pushing and pulling of the tides).

Many other dwarf doors are revealed entirely when the right circumstances occur, like the doors of Moria, which shows the whole outline of the door.

    They need have to have two categories of points. One for what they were looking for in the question and one for when the guest gets them on something like switching from drive to reverse is technically switching gears in an automatic car. • @DanKaschel

    @DanKaschel

    2 жыл бұрын

    I think that's easier said than done. English is not a particularly precise language (without being excessively verbose), so accepting ANY true correction would hurt the game by forcing the questions to over-specify. Also, a lot of the conversations would devolve into semantics (not that they don't already). For example, shifting into "drive" is not shifting into a gear. It's shifting into a "mode" which prescribes a subset of gear. So in an automatic vehicle, you don't shift gears, you shift modes and the car selects the gear based on that made and other factors.

The CCA told them that they had to take that out of the comics because of their Werewolf ban, but the publisher explained that it was a reference to the Author's name, so the CCA said that they would allow it on the condition that it was made explicitly clear that the author was named "Wolfman." At the time, it was not common practice for Authors to receive credit for the comics that they worked on, so this ended up being the thing that got the ball rolling in a big way for authors to receive credit for their work.

    Also, because the wording was specifically "Werewolves," Marvel created Sauron and his army of were-pteranodons specifically to get around that.

    um actually there is nothing technically wrong with the avatar question. No statement was made that they were given bending from the animals mentioned it only says learned and it would be hard to argue that a lion turtle is not a great beast.

    Love seeing Brennan on the show! Also, he definitely should have gotten the point for the food psychic. Any other time someone gives a close, but not exact answer without saying Um Actually, then someone repeats the answer properly, they get that point unless someone else can be more specific...

    close, sure, but Brennan's point was a pedantic deconstruction of the wording of the question, and he didn't actually add any information to Erika's guess, which was itself not super robust and Trapp was asking for a bit more

    Regarding the Thrush comment and the Secret Door on Durin's Day, I always thought of it one of two ways. 1. Thrushes can be migratory, so the idea that the thrush is knocking at this particular part of the year signifies that they are present in the area, and isnt necessarily a specific Thrush but just a general acknowledgement of their presence given the season. (Depending on how and when the birds migrate, of course.) 2. It could be possible that the birds do have lore that they hand down through the generations, looking for Durin's folk to return to the mountain and help show them the way to the entrance. I do think the second option is a bit more far-fetched (lol pokemon jokes), but we've seen multiple characters be able to comunicate and strike deals with wildlife AND birds, so it isn't outrageous to think that Durin's people had an agreement with the Thrushes surrounding Erebor. BOOM NAILED IT!

    Um actually the bending forces can be also reawakened by opening spirit portal on human world. Due to imbalance made by fire nation air nomads wiping, after Korra opened portal when fighting Unalaq, many nonbenders obtained airbending powers WITHOUT lion turtles involvement. So yeah in that universe not only lionturtles give bending powers but also some spirit worldish shenanigans.

    @@DanKaschel I think they say that he isn't trying to win because it always feels like he's letting everyone else answer before he does. So, he's just allowing everyone to have a chance to be correct before he can even answer, which is some form of not trying to win, just participating in trivia.

    Um Actually, Captain Newfoundland (aka Captain Atlantis) is an ancient extraterrestrial being and it was he who selected and tutored Daniel Eaton to become Captain Canada. He was buddies with Leif Eiriksson back in the day, and Newfoundland is the last remaining un-submerged tip of Atlantis in this canon - it's a whole thing. Also, it's (for no discernible reason) pronounced NEW-fin-LAND. [Source: I am both Newfoundlander and nerd] Not for nothing, the art for this comic run (Daniel Bulanadi) is absolutely bonkers cool. Very much worth a google and/or bing search.

    um actually, at 10:40 someone said there were 4 turtles. however it is stated in the lore that there was originally around two dozen but most were hunted. also fun little tidbit I am pretty sure each turtle has a different element to give meaning rather then the 5 we have seen technically there could be like 19 other unique bending abilities that have not been shown

  • @Finvaara
    @Finvaara Жыл бұрын

    There's definitely no retconning of the source of bending. All bending in humans was introduced by energy bending, which came from the Lion Turtle. In the fight against the fire lord, energy bending is used to remove the ability to bend fire and render him safe enough to keep alive.
