    Love Autogefuhl put a camera behind the driver so we can see the cockpit while driving. Incredible most other car channels don't do this, they think we want to see the presenter's face rather than the car.

    +1 for the 2021 Volkswagen GTI Club Sport. .. GTI's owned; '83, '86, '90 and '06. . The MVP of daily driver cars.

    Interior designers missed the mark. The simple functional excellence of the earlier versions now has some sort of contrived design element on each surface. Hatches, honeycomb, microfibre, bright panels, colored lines, fibre patterns. Looks like a unfinished experiment in surface finish. Too busy. Very much detracts from the cohesiveness of earlier interiors.

    Excellent review as always Thomas. I initially thought that VW had ruined the new Golf but this has been the first Mk8 GTI I have looked at and thought it looks OK, I still wouldn’t buy one. This may also be down to the Grey colours with decals and red caliper combination. In the meantime I will have to make do with my Grey GTI TCR, another awesome Golf with a great review by Autogefühl. It also has a gas strut on the bonnet😉

    Thomas & Autogefühl team - Excellent review as usual. I'm particularly interested in the GTI sub-brand and changes from the Mk.7. The video production and commentary quality is exceptional across the board. Especially so is your frank and insightful comments, unlike most other reviewers, isn't a biased critique or commercial about the car (any car) and the associated automotive technology. Regardless of the powerplant, ICE, pure battery electric and everything in between, I can rely on Autogefühl to lay bare the strengths and weakness of a car. Bravo! Keep Autogefühl Full HD, Full Screen and Full Length!

    In a car like that I wouldn't get a panorama roof. I don't miss it in my R. Adds weight and can be prone to rattles with the glass frame wearing after a couple of years. Quality review , Nice watch , Damasko?

    I drove the new 245 gti and it was so much better than my golf R 7.5. It did everything better. And it was very quick. The engine and dsg feels very aggressive and pulls hard.

    I really think that volkswagen missed the mark with the touch sensitive buttons and wanting to control everything through that bad navigation system which is surrounded by some hideous plastic

    Agreed. I can get over the drab exterior, but the interior makes it impossible for me to like this car even with the admittedly compelling performance improvements.

    As a Golf 8 owner, I don't mind the touch screen for various reasons: 1. I do not use the touch screen besides music which I set up before I go. 2. I enjoy driving, thus, I like driving fast, so the screen for me is irrelevant 3. I don't mind the touch screen, I got used to it 4. Music is the only reason I use the touch screen. For temperature, I set it accordingly before I go.

    The 2021 VW GTI counterpart the '21 Audi A3/S3 has an engine hood gas-strut apparatus, compared to the GTI's inelegant solid stick arm gismo.

    Side and rear quarter profile looks great. Still not sure about the front and the interior looks too plasticky. The dash bezel is way too thick, much more elegant in the 7.5. The spec of the Clubsport should have been what the base GTI started at IMO.

    Living in the states we are still waiting for the Mk8. As we won’t be blessed with the club sport I am curious what engine modifications are done to the club sport to achieve the 50 hp difference?

    They totally destroyed the exterior design of an otherwise decent looking Golf with the front on the mk8, and it's even worse on this Clubsport version.

    @@ginoderdaele9293 well i got the clubsport and considering i drove an awd before the cs, i can say that the cs is more exciting to drive. awd is more reliable during snowy times though but when you're sliding, the awd won't help much either. I would suggest to get the CS and fully equip it with all the stuff you can get.

    love the design, apart from the front grill on the left side where its just large plastic honeycomb with no perforations.. also that large light for the blind spot assist is very nice. hate the small light in the mirror...

    Gas struts tends to give up with time and in cold, but I had a car where that fixed hood holder disengaged somehow :) And yeah, somehow 8th Golf's design do not impress me still, even when I see it live, have been waited something more definitely. But I like interior.

    A nice idea until you realize it is priced like previous Golf Rs and far less capable. A real take away. Isn't a base Model 3 or Mustang E a much better value in this price range? Plus you can green brag.

    I love panoramic roofs in my cars, I have a Tiguan with one and an Tiguan Allspace without one and it feels much more sombre without it.

    I'm not sure about the lack of voice control for the AC being due to not having the 3-zone AC as you can still control it through the infotainment screen. Is voice control not handled by the MIB 3 infotainment system? In the Tiguan facelift (even with 3-zone AC) it is also not possible. I'm curious as to the reason. I thought this was standard functionality of the current VW generation models.

    Premium petrol only though which will be up to 10% part bio fuel by the end of summer 2021, will performance cars like this and the R suffer? In the 7.5 you can change gear with the shifter, can you do that with the new micro shifter?

    Sorry Thomas, not impressive gear lever, they will dissolve it later and put on the steering wheel like did the Merc! This one is so small, it can't be used to shift in manual mode.

    Judging from the roll out of the ID3 in EU, more specifically some of the feedback from the first customers, appears as if they should have committed more validation & verification testing to have a refined and robust software platform. Either way, VAG will sort it out....

    In summary, the Golf GTI illustrates the problem the new millennium consumer faces. A better $27k car has become a no more capable "jazzed up" $40k car to increase financial returns and satisfy increasing regulations. I guess that's the price of progress

    As speed it seems noisy, surfaces vibrate and seems twitchy. Wouldn't it benefit more compliant tires? Is it a car you could sustain the beating the driver gets at 160 kph for 15 minutes?

    Any modern car with average horsepower figures can sustain 160 for hours. It's noisy because of stiff suspension and huge wheels, tyres alone won't do much.

    I own a 18 golf R ! My dealer range me about the new golf ! He had a new R and a new GTI club sport . I tested both and then turned him down as these cars are beyond ugly . VW you have ruined it .

    GTi is front wheel drive, the R has selective all wheel drive.....if you don't want the hassle of a haldex then you get the GTi....plus 95% of people only buy the R because it's the top level, not the best one for them.

    well looks like it has most to all equipment so about 48.000 to 50.000€. however you can save about 20% if you go to the right dealer. it starts at 42.000€

    @@dominikstahl9704 insanity, I bought an all new GTI 7.0 full option manual for 36k, already including Mwst. To be honest that's 7 years ago, but still...its a golf GTI... I would say these prices are Golf R territory.

    I think that popping sound ridiculous, sorry to say. Personal opnion. Sounds like an old rally car. I want street car. Also it is apparently extra pollution from those pops, although relatively unsignificant. :)

    Early in, should mention the unavailability in the United States and maybe even add a speculation about why not. Also may list other large significant countries which they are not available in and again, speculative reason, reasons may be different. A large number of American buyers, especially the young kids, probably often choose other cars, manufacturers which are lower priced, and may have a few horsepower more...but they don't understand Fahrvergnügen !!!.... .

    I dont like it. Ugly front end, bland/dull sides and rear and a cheap looking interior with a crazy mix of finishes, angles and materials. I am guessing a decent proportion of buyers of this car will be enthusiasts and yet it has one of the most catastrophically dull engine bays I have ever seen - nothing in there of interest to show off for sure. To me, its lost its identity and brand values - its trying to play the bling game with lots of flashy tech and unusable interfaces and yet its also trying to be fast and focussed. I would find it a much more interesting car if the exterior design was simplified and made more subtly menacing. The inside should be 'lightened up' visually and the number of different materials reduced but made higher quality. Ditch the crappy and already outdated looking tech and go with Android for a better look, simplicity and functionality that errrr .... actually functions.
