We're out here in Montana at a Subaru Drive program, experiencing the 2025 Subaru Forester for the first time in person and on the road. Traditionally, the Forester hasn't been celebrated for its looks, and we have to wonder if this is at the root of the recent negative murmurs about its new styling. To us, it doesn't seem to retain that quintessential "Forester DNA." The design has shifted towards a sleeker aesthetic, moving away from what a Forester usually represents. It doesn't even really scream "Subaru" to us anymore. It'll be interesting to see if this marks a new design direction for the brand, but for now, let's take a look at the new 2025 Subaru Forester, on and off the road!

That front end screams Ford Explorer

When it comes to Subaru styling - that's a good thing.
The Subaru Forester has proven to be a great SUV. To me, it’s one of the Top 3 SUVS to choose from. The other 2 are the Mazda CX5 and the Toyota RAV4.
To my eyes this is way better looking than its predecessor. I will wait for the hybrid though
Great, fun review! Hearing both of your impressions was a pleasure too. Thanks for making this review!

Thanks for watching!
Such a nice review. Pleasure to listen to you
I plan to get paint color matched vinyl to put between the headlights and grill so the headlights look more like we're used to. And i like the heated seats on the touchscreen because then i can turn them on through the app when remote starting
I want a removable insert to cup holders so it can be cleaned ... can you set seat and steering wheel heat from the phone? I don't need the shift paddles soooo make them optional part of a package. Current 2023 Forester Limited ... Most of time in Montana (80mph)... now in Ohio for health care as 80 yo .... number 4 !
Yeah, I don’t care about the 0-60. It has enough to get me onto a highway and to pass a car if needed. I would get a sports car if I wanted turbo and a faster engine, or I would get the Outback
well does a new rav4 or a new crv look like the original model? nope. every car model evolves. i've always liked foresters.
As far as using "the paddles," I have an older 4Runner with automatic trans that I frequently manually downshift to accelerate more strongly (to raise engine revs into a more powerful range) without having to punch the gas. I also manually select a lower gear for cruising around town, to maintain lower speed in slow traffic without repeatedly using the brakes. The paddles would be more convenient to use than the shift lever. Use them.
Have Subaru fixed their oil leaks, coolant leaks, emissions related components and head gasket issues?
Im wondering why you need horsepower in the us? The maximum mph is just 80 in the us? Right? The European 2.0 litre E Boxer just have 150hp and 17hp E motor wich allows the car to drive approx 120 miles.
Greetings from southern Ontario Canada I understand that the hybrid option will be available in 12 months according to car confections your other KZread competitors and it will be provided by toyota as these two companies have had a partnership for 19 years cheers
Will be a great car if it has AT. Not a fan of CVT.
Prior gen explorer front end?
Good review - the front end says Ford Explorer to me (esp. with the similar oval) Otherwise there just don't seem to be that many substantive changes over the previous model.
Used to have a 2.5 Turbo Forester and loved it. I want the Forester, looks good but the whinning CVT and lack of power isa complete no no for me.
Great review... thanks! I'm still waiting for Canadian pricing to be released!

The 2019 -2022 foresters are best looking in my opinion I love my 2019 version
Doubling down on the horrible touch screen is a bad idea, but I guess the ball was already rolling when they stuffed it into every other model, with this being the last to get it. I drove the '24 Outback, and didn't appreciate having to toggle up and down in one degree increments for temperature adjustment, toggle fan speed up and down, or try to find "Sport" mode (2 screens deep in the Outback XT). In my older gen Forester, I can do this without taking my eyes off the road, as the three big knobs are easy to find and adjust on the fly. Putting the heated seat controls in the touch screen is a giant fail, and the responsible design team at Subaru should be demoted to the mail room. Just because something is technically feasible does not make it a good idea. Maybe if drivers weren't taking their eyes off the road to activate the heated seats and toggle up the fan speed, they wouldn't need to rely on lane keeping assist. If the dated and barely adequate drivetrain wasn't enough to put me off (where is the new XT?), the new controls are nails in the coffin. How do you have this "all new" update, and still run the drive train that was available in 2012? Yeah, allegedly a hybrid is coming. At least they got rid of the awful red/orange piping on the Sport. It ruins what is otherwise a nice package at that price point. But why do they continue that rear bumper thing, in which they try to make the exhaust outlets look symmetrical or like maybe someday, they'll have dual exhaust? (They mimic The piping/trim on the driver's side the real exhaust cut-out from the passenger side. Why? It looks like one of those dash panel blanks where the control for a function on a higher trim level would go. )

We have a '21 Outback Limited that has the 11.7" touchscreen. It's absolutely horrible. Very sluggish, despite having done over 6 infotainment system updates. No mention was made if the '25 Forester's system has been improved or not. If it hasn't, I doubt our next car will be another Forester. (We also have a '21 Forester Premium with a (very) small touchscreen).
It looks like Ford (Explorer) and Subaru (Forster) had a baby. Subaru needs to listen to their customer base, which they don't do. I own a 2011 Subaru Impreza Outback Sport Hatchback 2.5l w/ a 5-speed manual. I upgraded it to 210 hp, which makes it a fun commuter car. I love my Subaru, but I don't think my next car will be a Subaru unless it's an older Subaru. I think they're heading in the wrong direction and pushing their customer base away.
Desperately in need of a hybrid engine and ECVT.
Natalie’s comments about the styling shows her age, or lack thereof! 😂 Check out the facelifted second Gen (SG) design. The 4th and 5th Gen are probably what she associates with Forester, while oldies like me prefer the SG’s styling. Also the previous Sport models had orange, not red highlights. The bronze on the 2025 is akin to burnt orange! 😆 I quite like the 2025 model, tho not a fan of the infotainment touchscreen.
No XT or hybrid, no for me. I'll keep my 2018 XT Touring. Lost horsepower but made the rpm's higher. They should give us an engine choice like they do for the Outback. 🤷♂️🤷♂️

Absolutely... when is Subaru going to get with the program? That standard engine is way too anemic for that auto.

@@gobear83 Premium is not required only recommended... you just get less horsepower with regular... allow me to worry about my gas mileage versus if I want more power and zip when I need it... Mazda offers turbos in every model from the Mazda 3 to the CX90. They recommend premium gas but it is not required. So, your arguments are baseless.
@tommymas1

@gobear83 Yes premium gas, like many others. As for mileage, you're wrong. You get 23 city and 27 highway, just under the n/a 2.5 of that year.
Can't blame Subaru for going for the Explorer market. It still looks good.
Needs a more powerful engine. At this price, to have an underpowered car that is loud, unrefined and just slow at altitude, when passing or when loaded is crazy.

In Southeast asia, they only equip this car with 2.0 156hp engine and boast about boxing engine. What a joke!
The front is an explorer and the rear looks like a honda.
Great review, very informative.Still love the previous generation.
Ummm idk my 08 fozzy definitely about the looks 👀 best looking gen
I am in the market for a new vehicle. I was debating hard between the Forester Outback Onyx 2.5. Subaru made it simple for me. Ths new Forester looks like an old Ford Explorer. Not impressed so far. Maybe my opinion will change with time. 👎
No TCV is what I understand. That will be a selling point for reliability.
If you tried a Sport with a Power Rear Gate, it should have the kick sensor.
Looks a lot better than the last generation
The 25 so ulgly no bling on touring just plain jane. I decided to buy one early and got a 24 before they were all gone.
Natalie’s beauty is the best part of the vehicle. But being a Subaru, the reliability and dependability is most likely still there…just have to get used to the new exterior design
Premium no longer has paddle shifters.
Looks very nice❤
Looks like a fifth generation Ford Explorer.
I love the new Forester except it needs more power. It is slow even with just the driver, but fully loaded, it can be dangerous. Perhaps the promised hybrid will do better.
To me the 2025 looks more bland than the old one. Not really a fan.
Well, still not perfect as SG :) Guess after several version exterior will be excelent as remake of retro!
next year hybrid subaru forester will no longer be made in japan. sad :(

Not a good news
Just give us a damn manual transmission, Subaru!!!
Same chassis, same engine, and $3000 price increase?
So wait they DO want paddles??.... 15:01 We’re doing a lot more 🔥twisties and 🔥turnies, the steering is really interesting it's not 🔥loosey-goosey but... 15:10 it does feel very 🔥fluid almost like a 🔥lubricated sense when I'm turning the wheel... 15:18 it's quite 🔥pleasant actually on road, here I'm 🔥concentrating a little bit more but it's a 🔥really nice feeling... 15:26 not 🔥over-boosted just 🔥pleasantly-tactile now that the terrain is getting a little bit 🔥rougher... 15:41 it would be 🔥hard... 15:42 to 🔥screw this up so I don't even have my foot on the gas... 16:55 if you're still 🔥unresponsive, it's going to know 🔥something is wrong with you... 12:40 I've never been like 🔥oh I wish I had paddles.
Is the brand new Subaru FORDester, right? lol
Nice updated design.
Money ?? Tank you....🚗🇮🇹🚗🇮🇹
It’s the lack of torque and the bloody cvt transmission that’s a pita…Mr Subaru is forgetting what got them this far….
UGLY, UGLY, UGLY. I am going to keep my 2018 Outback (great car). Subaru has lost its way 🙁
Body style is too much like an explorer or highlander.
Love Subaru. Don’t like this. Don’t like the new styling direction since the debut of the 2020 Outback. If I was buying new today, wouldn’t buy Subaru. And I have only owned Subarus over the last 30 years. Really disappointing.
My last generation Forester Touring was the Biggest POS 🍋 LEMON to ever come out from Japan. I put on 15K miles on it in 5 years because it was in the shop most of the time. That was my first Subaru and it will be my last. As far as I’m concerned, Subaru can go 🖕🏽 themselves. I finally got tired of the 🍋 and went back to Toyota.
Yawn... We want our old Subie back. I think they are trying too hard and failing in their mission.

This looks sweet, don’t know why you don’t like it… I own a Crosstrek, good car bad on fuel. Isn’t that the same for all Subarus?
I don't know if it's me, but does the front of the 25 fire still look like a old Ford explorer? And maybe spruce up the colors like that might help with sales. But I'm getting old Ford explorer from the front of the new Subaru. I don't know if that's by design but someone's not on board there 🤣😂🤣😂🤣
5yrs to use crosstreck chassis , 25000 car and same engine ????? Subaru buyers brainwashed
CVT has no gears to shift. Total BS!
CVT🥵🥵🥵🥵

Bad reviews when the guy drives
IMO Subaru’s are for people who don’t care about driving dynamics of any kind nor do they care are about 0-60 times. They are practical shoppers who fancy themselves as outdoor enthusiasts and they have a slight arrogance about themselves in that they believe they are more informed and smarter than anyone else( cmon Subaru owners, you know I am right about this ha…) They also have bought into the Subaru narrative that buying a Subaru gives them an emotional connection to the vehicle. Subaru has hit the jackpot with Subaru buyers in that they tend to be loyal to the company and like the guy in this video, are move likely to replace their old Subaru with a new one.

haha we believe we're more informed and smarter... okay! I have very little "connection" to the vehicle, other than Subaru seems to do everything fairly well, very few things the BEST, but almost nothing the worst, so therefore it's always a contender. However, if I was buying a compact crossover today, I'd probably be looking at the CR-V Hybrid personally. I would also contend that the vast majority of shoppers value comfort, styling, and infotainment FAR above driving dynamics.
Looks like a ford
Girl likes to clap her hands together a lot. Should have let the guy do the review.
Trash
Looks like a Ford! Yuck! Its gonna flop, unless you’re an Explorer fan that wants something that will last past 30k miles.
Maybe wash it so the actual design shows throughout. It’s a Subaru ‘I get It’…
Subaru always looks ugly to me

Thumbs down on this review.
Useless car
His opinion is so lackluster, it's almost pointless
Girl did you bump your head? Stevie Wonder can see it looks just like the old one. This car is such a disappointment. The car looks dated especially the interior. The 11.6 inch infotainment was cool 5 yrs ago. The lack of digital instruments. Why would I buY this? The price increase does not justify this sad redesign. Im really disappointed. Sorry subaru you really lost a customer I cant see the justification to replace my current Forester. Ugh less horsepower. Im so angry im rambling
