Thank you for the review! One other thing to note that changed. The rear spoiler and shark fin antenna are now crystal black silica on all trims except the Wilderness. The black spoiler was first introduced on the JDM Forester STI. Not sure how I feel about the color change but it’s growing on me.

We have a 23 Forester Sport and we've already taken it through the dust storms in New Mexico to the mountains near San Diego. We also went through Texas and down to Orlando. The Sport has served well and is a great vehicle. It's awd safe and looks better than the crv and rav.

This car shines on the mountain roads. The only time it does not make it up or down a road is when the road is closed. This car will get out of the all kinds of snow storms. Many cars spun out or flipped and the Forester just goes without an issue. Someone drove their Forester off the road into a Ditch and they survived without a scratch.

I just purchased a '24 Crosstrek Sport and it's pretty amazing how similar it is to the Forester Sport! I do love my Subie, but buyer beware with the 2.5L engine in the Sport and Limited trims...it guzzles gas in the city! I average about 17-19mpg in the city (I live in Chicago- very heavy traffic) and this isn't even close to the reported 26mpg from Subaru and the EPA. I drive in "I" mode (there is no ECO mode), am a conservative driver, I use my paddle shifters a lot, and keep my RPMs under 2K whenever possible. I prefer the ride/suspension in the Crosstrek over the Forester. The Forester feels a bit more like a boat when it goes over dips and bumps in the road. My Crosstrek takes the bumps better IMO by not dipping the whole car to one side or another- the suspension feels "independent". I encourage a good test drive to see how you like the ride quality in the Forester. These are both great cars but you should be aware of a couple important details.

Thanks for reviewing the Sport. I saw a comment or review somewhere that suggested that the "Sport" has a revised suspension (more sport tuned) vs the other trim levels, but I can't find that in any literature, or your video. I am starting the search to replace my '14 XT, and as you noted, the lack of offering an XT Forester is disappointing. I drove an Outback XT, and it was underwhelming. Unlike my Forester XT, the new Outback XT does not come with any suspension and brake upgrades, nor does it have drive modes accessible via steering wheel buttons. (I have Sport, Sport Sharp, and "Intelligent"). On the Outback, apparently there is one more aggressive mode, but it is two screens deep in the infotainment center. Plus the Outback is lugging 450-500 lbs of extra weight. It didn't feel all that exciting. Not worthy of the extra cost and mpg hit over the 2.5l. Looks like the '25 is going to put in the giant infotainment system that we already see in the Outback. It's a shame that the simple to use HVAC controls are disappearing. I remember the days when Subaru used to brag about being able to do controls while wearing gloves. You better have those capacitive gloves now.

My pleasure, thanks for watching! I’ve never heard that the Sport has a tweaked suspension, if it did I think Subaru would advertise that more blatantly. I’ve driven a 2015 Forester XT, very fun ride, and the turbo power kicked in like an old school turbo car which was cool. In my own GPS testing it was about 1s slower than the modern Outback XTs. But it is a shame that so many new Subarus have lost their buttons like you said. 😞

@@AutomotiveAnonymous208 Nothing surprises me anymore on what they do or don't brag about in their advertising. You have to really be paying attention to see that these have adaptive headlights. So do the Outbacks, and so do the Mazda CX-5. I would think they would be playing that up, since Honda and others don't have this. Used to be you had to get a BMW to get that. (Not sure how well it actually works though) In the '15 XT, if you didn't use "Sport Sharp" mode, it will feel a lot more pedestrian than if you do use it. Throttle tip in is much more aggressive, and it holds the artificial gears longer, even when you take your foot off the gas. It "learns" what it thinks you are trying to do. The first time I drove one, I wasn't impressed. Then the salesman showed me the sport mode buttons. Night and day. Maybe the Outback is just smoother and quieter than my XT, but it felt like I had to bury my foot, wait, and then it started to build. When I put mine in SPorts Sharp, there is little hesitation. Thanks for the feedback. Always fun to check in with others. I feel like a Forester Limited might be floating to the top of my list. It has enough power around town to slice and dice if needed. The "sport" button makes it a little more aggressive, and is right on the steering wheel. You can feel the difference in weight vs the Outback. More nimble and not as softly sprung. I loved the way the CX-5 and CX-5 turbo drove (did that yesterday), but the back seat is extremely limited. Very cool HUD though and the UI on the infotainment is very intuitive. Can't get fog lights there either. Trying to get stuff that will make this a better car for our aging eyesight. (Yes, as much as I hate to admit or believe it, night vision tends to drop off with age.) Enjoy your youth while you have it. :)

Very good insight! And I don’t recall if I had used Sport or not when I drove and GPS tested the XT, I hope I did lol. It was an early review for me. But also who knows how the programming had adjusted to the previous owner. That’s funny, I also drove a 2024 CX-5 turbo and non turbo yesterday for some snow testing. Those are awesome vehicles and now that I’ve driven a lot more vehicles since last year when I did my beginner reviews of them, I’m really impressed. Yes, rear occupant room is tighter. But the AWD system worked way better and much more rear biased than I assumed it would be lol.

How much would an extended warranty be in comparison to a CVT down the line. Fantastic review! Also, would the cvt in the wilderness be more durable due to the transmission cooler?

  • @AutomotiveAnonymous208

Or check out a social media forum, I’m sure there’s plenty of answers in those posts! Best of luck! Also, another good question. I'm back. In spite of really diving into the differences between models, I just discovered that the Sport and Wilderness offer "Sport Sharp", whereas the others (Limited, Touring, not sure on Premium), offer "Sport" instead of Sport Sharp. I drove the Limited (or maybe it was Touring, I was more interested in how it drove than exact feature differences), and tried out the "Sport" mode, and if you were paying attention, you could feel some difference. I think you've driven almost the entire line of Foresters. Did you notice any/much difference between the Sport Sharp and Sport? I can't remember the 0-60 times on the other tests you did (and of course ambient temp plays a role too), but I'm curious if the difference between Sport and Sport Sharp in the 2.5 is as great as it is in my XT. I know I'm beating this to death, but I'm trying to figure out if after buying and owning a '24, I'll have buyer's remorse re the "missing" power. On an on-ramp type situation, it feels like the 2.5 starts to wane at about the same point where my XT starts to really pull. Can't decide if I'll get used to it, or it will just grate on me. I need to drive a Sport. IMO, for me, the Sport has to overcome the boy racer-ish "accents" too. I don't mind a bit of "flair" if there is some performance boost to go with it, but trying to make a vehicle "sporty" wiith trim and badges while doing nothing to the actual performance has never sat well with me in 42 years of car buying. Back in the day we called it, "All show and no go".

I hear you! In the vehicles equipped with sport or sport sharp I’m unsure it’s much different than just using the paddle shifter to downshift. It doesn’t seem to help at all on launch because you can’t downshift past “1st gear” but from a roll sport mode definitely is ready to play more than regular mode.

  • @AutomotiveAnonymous208

    @AutomotiveAnonymous208

    4 ай бұрын

I’m not sure on other transmission rebuilds or replacement as that could also vary by shop and location. But the CVTs can’t be rebuilt, only replaced. So the options to do that are more limited and more controlled by Subaru. I have no clue why they cost 2x as much as other automatics to replace, but they currently do. If they were the usual cost I wouldn’t be concerned because of it happens to fail, that’s an opportunity to have a private shop build it better than factory. But in the Subarus case you have to pay a lot only to have the same reliability.

They do have incredible visibility. Other than the Subarus (mostly BRZs) affected by the liquid gasket failures I’ve not really heard anything about modern generation Boxers leaking. But yeah, no car is perfect and I could gripe on anything. In Subarus case it’s not necessarily that their CVT isn’t reliable, but that if it does fail out of warranty it costs 2x as much as it should for a complete factory replacement, which is lame. 😒

The continued comment on the "Baby Sized" Subaru stamp on the door sill is LAME . . . . So What?

It is Lame. And it should say the model, not the make.

CVT , underpowered, weird and rather ugly styling, old school touch screen only interface , floaty drive in comparison to the best in class... Sorry old school AWD can only get it so far .

The foresters specifically come with physical buttons if you opt for the smaller infotainment center stack. I’ve seen a lot of comments about people going with foresters instead of crosstrek for that reason alone since the touchscreen only tablet stack is laggy and can be distracting

The sport tries to make up for the poor decision to get rid of the XT.

No, unfortunately none of the current gen Foresters come with the turbo engine. ☹️

225mm wide tires? doesn't sound very sporty. can you even get good performance tires that skinny?

Yeah, there’s definitely some out there, but I’m unsure which wheel size/width are the most commonly fitted to a 225mm wide. 🤷‍♂️😛
