    I test drove a P250 with 20inch wheels and I thought the ride was smooth and not stiff at all. I do agree about the overly light steering feel and the rather disappointing fuel economy given it's a mild hybrid.

    Tomas have been waiting for this video for so long in fact that long have ended up purchasing a P250 First Edition in nolita grey. It's beautiful . The only downside is that I am only getting 22mpg. I had a BMW 4 series gran coupe previously and it's a smoother ride than that . I like the high driving position and the luxury inside. One thing I miss is that in eco mode on BMW you could coast without gear changing down which was great for fuel economy. I don't regret the purchase so far

As for the automatic 9 speed , it take a few days to adapt and the box is intelligent and will adapt to your driver profil, going from eco mode, to confort or sport will change the box laws. You still have manual mode. Fuel efficiency is awfull, but who cares , if you can afford a new evoque you can pay for fuel. It cost me more in carwash to keep it shinny actually , black and white car.......😍

    Strange about the headlights. Door handles: would fingers get pinched when opening if some one blips to lock? Not keen on a stiff or firm ride. Or as you say Thomas, using the lower screen whilst driving. Great report, really enjoyed the driving lounge, commentary and insight/'evoque pronunciation'. This car, not for me: it's the good, the bad and the expensive.

    @Thomas.letsgo, we were considering the Evoque P200SE for our next car. Have to agree the interior is beautifully done but Land Rover has really way too many features which are optional extras, some of which should really be standard. In the end it pushes the price up to the next size segments like the Q5 and the X3 as you mentioned in the video. As for us, thanks to your in-depth review, we ended up with a Volvo XC40 T5 R-Design which is well equipped with lots of character and clever designs. Bonus it's over 40% cheaper than the Evoque P250SE with a comparable specification here in Australia.

    A comment about off road ability. I’m sure that very few owners use its superior off road performance but it is crucial to the status of the Range Rover brand. The United Kingdom (note the 2nd word) is still a country of “old money”. That means country estates, riding, polo, shooting, fly fishing. In the 70’s Rover worked this out and saw a market for the luxury off roader. The Range Rover was the result. The trick is to sell the concept to suburbia so they can pretend that, as soon as the curfew is lifted, they’ll be driving off to meet Lord somebody or other. That is why the Evoque has been such a hit. It’s the most expensive car in its class but sells like hot cakes.

  • @richardwilton722
    @richardwilton7224 жыл бұрын

    This is strange. This is the second Autogefühl review I’ve watched recently where a car, when tested on British roads, always seems to be rated as having the best ride in class, whereas Autogefühl says it’s below average. I’ve driven in Germany a lot and the roads are much better than British roads. To me , German cars are always sprung for good high speed stability on smooth roads. Once you get onto British back roads, they give your insides a good kicking. I suppose it wouldn’t be a big surprise if a Mercedes were tuned for German roads and a Range Rover for British. A few years ago, someone drove into my Jaguar while it was stopped. While it was being repaired, I was lent a BMW. God that was uncomfortable. My wife said so too without being prompted. And she’s German.

  • @autogefuehl

    @autogefuehl

    4 жыл бұрын

    Well Richard it is indeed the case that manufacturers optimize things for their main and/or domestic market. German cars are indeed tuned in a way that they also work well high speed, whereas Japanese and American manufacturers don't focus on that at all. I can just that they we do not care at all where a car gets build / which brand it is, referring to our rating.

    Autogefühl The other test that prompted my comment was the Qashqai. I’ve looked at some more tests in the meantime. In that case it seems to be down to wheel size. The cheapest models are really comfortable with the car getting progressively less comfortable the more you pay for it! One of my former colleagues in the industry told that cars are usually developed with the cheapest wheels and then the big ones are added to look good in the showroom.

  • @autogefuehl

    @autogefuehl

    Yes wheel size is a huge factor! The Qashqai ride with biggest wheels is horrible whereas with smaller it's fine. It's so useless to go with the biggest wheel size if you appreciate comfort.

    Hi Thomas. A good review of the new Evoque. I think the word you were looking for, in regards to the overall quality is 'Inconsistent'!! That inconsistancy would definitely put me off purchasing one. I'm not a particular fan of overall exterior look, it just looks to 'fat' and bulbous to me, especially the front end. Jonathan.

    Nice review. Like Thomas says, it is the differentiation factor which strikes the most, somehow in the same way Alfa vehicles spark with uniqueness, but the Evoque is being sold so well in many places, it's become part of the urban landscape. Most people drive this car around the city so the autobox may seem mandatory, but the diesel variant with manual transmission would have probably made sense, erasing two of its main issues (poor mileage and indecise automatic transmission). However, I read the other day in the Spanish press that the manual gearshift feels awful... so it seems nothing has changed in the British auto industry: tons of inimitable charm but that sense of unachieved work that many are willing to live with in compensation. Ps: And yes, it is definitely overpriced when compared to direct rivals such as the Lexus NX or the Audi Q3. Perhaps its worst enemy may be the equally British and charming MINI Countryman.

    See what happens when manufacturers don’t change controls for local markets. It happens to us in the UK with imports. Your most biased review I have seen . Funny all the UK reviewers rate this significantly above all the German cars in this segment….. Test drove the P300e this week and the drive, gearbox and ride package are significantly better on 20 inch wheels than Q3, X1/3 and GLA on 18 or 19. You mention poor ride over 10 times, maybe your tyres were flat. Quality inside is beyond comparison to cheaper interiors in those models. Maybe Brian should review UK cars for a more independent opinion in the future.

    I recently took a couple of short journeys in two different Land Rover models. One was the new Defender, the other was a fully loaded brand new Range Rover. I have to say, I expected a bit more refinement out of them. They both felt too tall on the road and the build quality wasn't all that special, at least considering how expensive they are to buy and maintain. I think Land Rover's competition feel a lot more composed on the road, would you agree? Also, I really started to think leather seats are completely unnecessary. I had a suit on and I was sliding around on my butt as I was being driven around. Certainly unworthy of the animal that had to die to give up its skin.

    Indeed, just aside from ethical aspects, slick leather surfaces do not make sense sliding-wise / keeping you tight in corners and are also cold in winter and hot in summer. Only advantage is that you can wipe them easier, but for that you could also take leatherette if you really need it (e.g. construction site worker or smth.)

    BMW and Mercedes can have certain models that dont sell in such great numbers. But Landrover is wasting investment on the Evoque. ROI is going to be tough. Money would have been better spent on developing a "Basic" new Defender model under 30000 Euro price mark. With outstanding reliability ( Hopeful) I know it wont happen. Focusing too much on luxury segment and not on the practical and reliability issues which are its Achilles heel.

    The ethical side again... Well, next time you test a 300+ Hp car, please don't mention the leather. Better talk about the excessive consumption, the huge CO2 emissions and the relative big amount of fine rubberdust coming of those big, wide tyres. Which makes these vehicles - nowadays - very unethical. At least theoretically , when you're bothered by this kind of thoughts.

  • @autogefuehl

    @autogefuehl

    The worst thing you can do is doing nothing just because you cannot change everything. Think about it. People will still buy cars, and also in every segment. Isnt it better when they harm less animals while doing so? Besides that, we do present consumption figures and advise for more economical engines and also frequently present alternative drives and new technologies.

  • @autogefuehl

    @autogefuehl

    Plus, animal agriculture makes up for way more CO2 emissions than even traffic as a whole (all means of traffic together). So our no.1 problem are not cars, no.1 problem for animals, humans and the whole planet is consuming animal products (not my idea, just google it...). Still, we need to improve how cars run of course - and adapt our mobile habits according to the length of travel and pick the respective means of transport.

  • @autogefuehl

    @autogefuehl

    4 жыл бұрын

    Local stuff is great! Especially if it is fruits and vegetables. I am very well aware of co2 calculations. However to me, a life of an animal or direct human harm counts more than co2 emissions. So I firstly look at direct impact, like, is an animal killed? Is a human harmed? Is someone spilling poison into the water? Instead of some co2 calculations. But: At the end of the day, those "direct impacts" usually also come alongside the highest co2 outputs. No matter which fruit or vegetable you buy and where it is coming from, it will always be more sustainable and less harming than any animal product you could buy. Yes, it is even more sustainable (again, just google that, enough studies to be found...) to fly bananas and avocados all over the world than growing cows locally and slaughtering them. Again, it is dishonoring a living being to compare it with co2 calculations. You have no idea what I am doing on a personal level from childhood on to protect other humans, animals and the environment, so I would be careful with your assumptions.
