All-New 2024 BMW X2 review // A lot of changes, not all perfect!

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

This is a Motormouth couple car review of the all-new BMW X2 subcompact luxury SUV. The 2024 BMW X2 is powered by a 2L turbocharged 4-cylinder with a 7-speed dual clutch transmission, 241 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque. That’s an extra 13 horsepower and 37 lb-ft of torque compared to the outgoing model, standard AWD.
The more powerful 2024 BMW X2 M35i has the same 2L turbo 4 but with 312 horsepower, the torque number stays the same at 295 lb-ft.
The 2024 BMW X2 is a performer, there is plenty of power in the base engine, I don’t even think we would step up and buy the M35i, it’s just not necessary. This crossover is sporty and engaging to drive, it’s a nice blend of performance and versatility with agile handling, excellent cornering and comfort level.
The suspension and damping system have been updated to improve long distance comfort and reduce body movement over small bumps while also ensuring excellent behavior in corners. The 2024 BMW X2 M model adds more power, bigger brakes, a higher speed and an adaptive M suspension. The M suspension is included in the M sport package for the 28i which we have on our test model.
The 2024 BMW X2 is based on the same platform as the X1 but isn’t quite as practical, it has a coupe style silhouette but is bigger than the previous model. It is now 7.6” longer, just over half an inch wider and 2.5” taller.
The2024 BMW X2 starts at $52,749 CAD/$42,000 USD and the M35i $63,349 CAD/$51,400 USD.
Canadian pricing includes, freight, PDI and fees.
2024 BMW X2 fuel economy the xDrive 28i gets 9.7L/100 km, 24 MPG city and 7.1L/100 km, 33 MPG highway.

Exterior is hideous! I agree with hubby. Sits high with what looks like narrow lawnmower wheels. And the lines, angles and edges makes it look like what we thought a futuristic car would look like twenty years ago. An no physical buttons?! Main reason why the newest model of the Golf R is sitting on lots. Complete opposite of the beautiful styling and aggressive stance of let’s say a Porsche Macan :)

Good review as usual. I picked up an 2024 X1 2 months ago and while I was skeptical about the lack of buttons, you do get used to it. There's "always on" screen buttons for the heated seats/wheel and climate, music is easy to get to. The shifter too is ok but 100% agree with your my modes comment - I like to go into sport mode (a lot!) and it's a real pain. I also prefer the look of the X1...the X2/X4/X6 have never really resonated with me...looks "chopped off" at the back. Having had the X1 for a couple of months, it's a lot of fun to drive. What is a total disaster is the iDrive 9 software. I've had 2 software updates now and still have a myriad of problems (well documented on forums). The biggest one though is that Android Auto has stopped working entirely with the latest update (disconnects after a couple of mins). I feel BMW has nailed the driving dynamic, space and power for this segment but the software is a hot mess (that I dearly hope gets solved)

I have a 2023 BMW X1 and really like it except there is a constant buzz coming from the drivers side grab handle and a couple of rattles on the passenger side. As for the start/stop I created a short cut so all I have to do is swipe down on the screen and select it, you can do it before or after you start it as long as the car is woke up.

I can’t see why I’d go X2 over an X1. As for the X1, loving mine (M35i) and very surprised at the mpg. I’m at 1900 miles and am getting an overall mixed average of 31.5mpg. Even going 75-80mph on highways I was sustaining 32mpg. The m35i definitely is not necessary at all (and may be stiffer) but at the time I ordered it bmw wasn’t allowing the m sport / shadow line black trim on the 28i and I did not want the chrome trim. I do like the quad exhaust look though. No real complaints so far though I’m still learning some things. I would like buttons but I’ve been able to get by okay.

My 2015 RWD X1 2L (longitudinal) built in Leipzig was excellent for six years, one minor warranty issue except for airbag recalls. ZF 8 spd excellent too, paddle shifters help make up for no manual. $35,600 on the street :^) lifetime fuel mileage 29.7 mpg. My neighbor bought it from me, still great. Most serious criticism, run flat tires, awful ride. This car had 51% of its weight on the rear axle, the relatively short four-cyl engine was well behind the front axle. Picked it up at the Greer South Carolina factory, excellent experience and museum tour. I wouldn’t be inclined to buy the FWD platform. BMW FWD? Sacrilege.

I like the X2 style myself, the sporty 35i is very intriguing like the equivalent MB GLA 35. The auto stop function I’ve had on CR-V and you get used to it. I’m not sure it’s that important but the X3/4 M40i has a Mild Hybrid which is better. Overall the X3 is everywhere in my city, I swear there’s as many X3 as RAV and CRV. So I like the X2 and X4 myself, the X1 and X3 are a little boring. At least the X1 has the nicer interior and I’m sure the X3 will get a refresh soon. To me the X2 35i is probably the best new design I’ve seen in awhile

It was always a delight when I’d see a BMW X2. I thought the design was brilliant. The highlight being the twin C-pillar BMW badges… akin to the iconic M1 (well that’s a bit of a stretch, but…). This new generation… does little for me, despite (probably) being a huge step forward in it’s evolution… which is too bad. Because I thought BMW really had something special. Now, its just too much of an in-betweener (not the Marvel comic character)… something between an X1 and an X3. How boring is that? Thanks for the video.

As much as the beauty is in the eye of the beholder, the exterior "hunchback design" is awful. I hated it when the X6 came out first then the GLE now this.... jeez as if there are no more car designers left out in this world. As someone already commented it looks a lot like a Buick. Also BMW seems to be going lately with the oversized front "nostrils" theme and not sure is working well for them. The design is obviously evolving with time but there is nothing sexier than a classic car design with maybe few modern touches.Especially for a brand like BMW . Please BMW give us a nice classic look like you used to do back in the days .

Starting for the 2024/2025 BMW Model Year, particularly X5, X6, X7, and the new 5 and 7 Series, the new 4 Series, the US market will no longer get fully adaptive LED headlights, which means your LED headlights will no longer turn left or right when you turn the steering. Also, the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), ranked the 2024 and 2025 BMW LED headlights as awful because they are not as bright and there is a lot of glare in them, making them terrible. The high beam is practically useless. What is going on with BMW? Has raised the prices by about 35%, but it keeps cutting corners. Can someone shine a light here? Seriously? The lights are safety factors.

I’m with Zack. It’s a face, and a side, and a rear only a mother could love (or not). Yuck

Shifter buttons are great. Remove the sticking shifter-more space. I dont see the point of shifting it with a lever since its electronic!

BMW have lost the plot . Why copy other brands ? Their styling was unique and that’s why we loved it. Round speed and rev counters , nice orange interior lighting, kidney grills etc. I have always had BMW but changed to Lexus , prefer the RX style and it’s more reliable. BMW no longer have a USP.

Don't forget that there's no available rear wiper. I wish that *all* vehicles had one!

Darn, it seems all car makers, even luxury makers, so totally cheap out on their smaller platforms and vehicles. Frankly, if I am ever thinking of a UX or X2 or Q3, I would just go for the next higher platform in a slightly lower trim. OMG, I just never think I would be satisfied with a smaller vehicle that they totally cheap out on, just because it's supposed to be cheaper and they always seem to cut corners to do it that way!

I am so tired of technological "progress". I enjoy driving, not manipulating a screen. Plus, if you only drive this car occasionally, the idiosyncratic technology will be a burden, not a blessing
