Great advice for those wanting to start out. No need to jump in long lining with a ton of steel. A mentor would be a great start for one in a local area. Research, the ability to fabricate and finding those deals are a plus. Your channel has a wealth of information and has the ability to help in the fore mentioned areas. Know the feeling on being a bit behind but it all works out in the end.

You are right about the number of traps the beginner needs. The biggest thing for the beginner is learning. Make a lot of your own tools and boards. The classifier is easy steaks no prob. bate is made. A dozen traps to start. I'd get sets of three different types.

Pretty sure I could fill your trailer up with my traps but that isn't saying much when your stuck in a cage trapping state like washington. My smallest traps are 6x6x24 colony's, and iv got a pile of those. But when you start stacking up 12x12x36 and 12x18x36 beaver/otter/bobcat cages it becomes very difficult to get any number of traps out even in a full-size long bed pickup. My new trap design will be collapsible that will help immensely, but will still fill up a ten foot trapping boat very quickly!

Good advice for the folks wanting to get into it. Good cross section of traps for different animals and situations. Like most things in life we gradually add to what we need. then like you said we won't need to buy for a long time if at all. traps like firearms last a long time. Maybe need new springs once in a while or some other part is all. Great video, again thanks for taking the time. Al

Its not the number of sets that matters. I am not going to just put a bunch of traps out. I do full time trap every day of the season and have every high catch rates. Most guys just throw in a bunch of traps and have a very sad catch rate. If i put out a dozen MB 550's i can almost guarantee a 25% catch rate ,night after night. You must keep moving across the country side. I say 5 days and move on.
