The Philly Phanatic is definitely the biggest meme in baseball mascots, he's hilarious!

"Fredbird" is a play on Redbirds, a nickname for the Cardinals (also the name of their AAA affiliate in Memphis). The Rally Squirrel is because of a squirrel that ran onto the field during the 2011 NLDS, the same year that the Cards made their big World Series journey (after almost missing the playoffs entirely, edging the Braves out of the Wild Card literally within a few hours). The rally that he represents isn't just a single game, but, rather, the rally all the way to winning the 2011 World Series.

As someone who is an Arizona native I am honoured to have our baseball team in the top ten for mascots, a fun fact about backster is that he and the other Arizona sports mascots go to the birthday of Howler our hockey mascot every year

Bad blood from Orioles goes way back. I grew up in northern va as an orioles fan in the cal Ripken era. The period before the expos moved to dc, the dmv was firmly Orioles and redskins (I didn’t know any bullets/wizards or capitals back then) territory. When it was on the news that the expos may move to a new city and dc was the most likely candidate (Dulles va was too believe it or not) the Orioles organization was against it because they knew fans were going to leave. They tried to stop baseball returning to the capital but fail and instead worked a compromise. MASN tv network was owned by the Orioles has legal rights to broadcast Orioles and nationals games, so they will profit from viewers of both teams. I was torn but took a year to decide what team I want to be a fan of. Until 2012, Bryce Harper rookie year, the team was so bad, thought I made the wrong decision but no regrets now. The current nationals is actually dc’s third baseball team. The first Washington nationals named after national bohemian beer (renamed the senators after sponsorship of senate beer) became the Minnesota twins in the 1960s that’s the one that won a World Series in the 1920s and had yearly tradition going way back to presidents throwing the first pitch played in Griffith stadium same one as redskins, second senators team became Texas rangers, and this nationals team was from Canada.

As a Rangers fan, I gotta admit the Philly Phanatic is the reigning, defending, undisputed *KING* of all sports mascots.

Great list but the Phantic along with the Galapagos gang are funnier than orbit. Also the Galapagos gang they have because that is where the Phantic is from. It would have been funny if you put Tommy lasorda attacking the Phillies Phantic.

white elephant stems from back when Connie Mack on the team in Philadelphia he called themselves the white elephants because they were a bad package but still ended up being good like a white elephant exchange

I really likes this, I'm a huge yankees fan so the deal with dandy is he was supposed to represent the older generation of yankees baseball players who back in the day had crazy big mustaches, they also gave dandy a mustache becuase at the time Thurman munson (an amazing pitcher for the yanks at the time) also had a mustache that was similar to the original players from the early days of baseball and after munson died in '79 they kinda just put dandy away until '81 when they officially retired him

I had a feeling that Orbit will be Number 1, Orbit is such a great mascot for the Astros! FunFact: In the year 2000-2012 The Astros Replaced Orbit with a Jackrabbit Named Junction Jack (Because We’re Known For Our Railroads, And Of Course The Jackrabbit we have a lot in Texas. Also During the game from what I remember as a child, if there was ever a home run the train In Minutemaid park would go around the stadium, yeah we used to have a tiny train inside the stadium, As you can see having the Name Astros and having train stuff didn’t match the whole esthetic). But By 2012 Orbit was brought back and is here to stay (and of course Orbit is a fun name for him because Here in Houston we’re known as Space City because of NASA and the Space Center)! Orbit is so cute and so funny That he really brings the Team and Sports Fans spirits up! Orbit is such a great mascot (if we’re not counting NBA, Because Clutch The Rockets Bear is just as great as Orbit, Seriously Clutch has won many awards for being a great Mascot)!

mr met was the first mascot in recorded history dating all the way back to 1964 when Shea Stadium opened. so not only was he the first baseball head mascot, he was the first ever mascot.

I miss BJ Birdie and Youppi.. The Athletics started in the early days of baseball. They were originally known as the Philadelphia Athletic Club. Someone else mentioned the white elephant comment. The owner of the A's ran with it, using a white elephant as the logo since.

9:42 🤓 Um, actually, the San Diego Chicken was never the mascot for the Padres and was never affiliated with any sports team, it was just the mascot for a radio station in San Diego and showed up at mass public events to promote the station, including baseball games.

The Pirate Parrot has always been the Pittsburgh mascot since they were created. The Pirate was a side character that they brought out back in the late 90s for an anniversary. As the Pirate Parrot, and the Pirate we’re both doing meet and greets at the stadium for two years. The Pirate has since retired, and is brought back occasionally for special events. Pirate Parrot is still running the ship!

Pirate parrot first showed up in the late '70s. I saw a video that shows him hatching out of an egg similar to the rockies mascot coming out of a rock. I remembered during fathers' day games they had another parrot dressed up like the parrots' dad. Cjr i believe didn't show up until a little after pnc park existed. And i loved those pierogie races they have every home game.

Pirate Parrot was also a big time cocaine dealer back in the 1980's. He hooked up lots of players from all teams.

Billy was basically from being the only mascot you’re in danger of being stabbed by to an ugly fish that’s reminiscent of why the Marlins care about winning lawsuits than actually winning games

Yeah, looking back I feel bad about having to diss so many of them just because they were in the bottom half of my ranking. I do like all Mascots which is why I made this video. One thing I didn’t understand was that not all Mascots have to be especially funny and do crazy stuff, some mascots just are a good fit for that team, and Sluggerrr is a good example. I remember I took pictures with him at the 2018 Home Run Derby and we did the floss dance together.

So fun fact about Gapper, and I didn’t know this, being a reds fan, but the name Gapper comes from its ballparks abreviation of GABP, and was originally going to be Gabper, but it was changed so another p to make it easier to say maybe? I couldn’t find the reason why.
