The fact that you played through every single level (for better or for worse) to get footage, then took notes, then compiled it all into this massive countdown is nothing short of amazing this was extremely fun to watch, and as about of intense nostalgia trip you can get. @@AxMania Wait, there's 69 total including bonuses in 1-3 but according to Wikiraider there are 35 in Revelations and 13 in Chronicles, which would be a total of 107 overall, where are the other 13 from? Sorry I've not watched the whole vid yet as I will be laying the remasters soon and don't want to be spoiled on levels I've forgotten about in the past 30 years...!

Good lord, if ever there was a video that fit the very definition of an epic accomplishment, this is it! Playing through five games, three expansion packs, and one bonus level, documenting 120 separate stages, noting where each one succeeds and fails, coming up with a ranking, then writing a script and editing your footage down to a nearly three hour love letter to one of the most iconic franchises of the 32-bit era...AxMania, this is nothing short of INCREDIBLE. I loved every minute of this!

Old Mill is one of my favourite levels 😭 It’s so much fun & it’s not really that removed when you can consider the mystical creatures found in TR1. It’s basically an inexperienced Lara discovering the supernatural for the first time and I love it for that.

Oh, ouch 😂 Sorry about that! I just, personally, don't really think you do anything in the level. There's not much gameplay in it, I feel. And, of course, I think the story is weirdly silly, and too much is handled in those cutscenes. We don't get to defeat Verdilet in gameplay for example 😕

@@AxMania I love the puzzles personally! It’s a nice break from the heavy combat from Russia and VCI. And to be completely honest, I think it’s for the best we didn’t have a boss battle because none of the classic boss battles are any fun imo. It’s usually a bunch of sideways jumping with dual pistols 🙈 Each to their own of course, but I remember playing it for the first time and it took ages to figure out the puzzles and it reminded me of Natla’s mines.

Old Mill wsnt that great in my eyes. The last puzzle drove me Insane where you find that cage out. It's slow boring and forgettable. In my opinion anyway.

I can't thank you enough for all the fun, laughing and deeply philosophical questions (?) you share with us. We acknowledge and appreciate the massive amount of work you put behind. Keep this in your mind whenever you need it: We're here for you, sir. You're much loved. Speaking for myself, oh well... I wish we would have met as children, back in the mid-'90s. It was nice to be just Lara and I, raiding tombs and temples in all that solitude. But it would have been nicer to have a neighbor, classmate, cousin or anyone like you, who I could share the video games with. I'm sure we would have been best of buddies! We would have scared the shit out of us when the barracuda strikes, and of course at those pitch-black rooms filled with yetis, spiders or cobras! We would have fought over the controllers until someone got a nosebleed. We could even have grown up and spend a few days of real danger at some South Pacific island. 😁 Yeah, it's just me rambling, but I'll be damned if there's not a bunch of people here who think you would be one hell of a friend. Great video. Watched start to finish. I am an old time fan, starting with TR1 on PlayStation. I had no idea at the time, but at 12 years old I was about to play what would become one of my favorite games ever. With the Tomb Raider I-III Remastered, I have got to experience these games again. I have beaten the first two games again and am almost done with III. TR3 has aged very well and is looking like it will be my favorite of the first 3 games. TLR I only ever beat once, but I remember liking it enough. Chronicles I have never played. I will have to try and rank the levels myself one day. Truly an awesome feat. Thanks for the video!

They're not Dark Souls, treat yourself and get the remasters, or play the legend or survivor trilogy, much more forgiving. There's always Lara Croft Go too.

This was such a treat to watch. The Tomb Raider games are what got me into gaming, and to this day TR1-TR3 are still in my top favorites. My personal favorite level is probably Crash Site. Thanks for the nostalgia trip!

Fantastic video. Your love for the series really shines through. Some highlights in this video for me is your comments on Lara's home. Everything you said about locking poor Winstone in the freezer is word for word what I and I'm sure countless other 90s kids did! I respect your choice for number 1. I recall completing TR3 for the first time and remember Madubu Gorge being very challenging. I struggled so much getting through that level that I think I had to restart it several times because I kept saving it in bad locations. In the end, I'm pretty sure the only way I could complete it is by simply not saving and going from start to finish without dying. God knows how I thought that was a good idea but it worked. Thanks again for this epic video and for reinvigorating my childhood memories.

Your videos are absolutely fantastic. I am so happy that I found them. I have been obsessed with the TR series since 1996; I was 6 years old at the time. To this day, I am still replaying the classics and Lara Croft has never left me. I love seeing your videos because they make me smile! I can obsess about every little detail in Tomb Raider 😂 Haha, I understand why you get that impression, but it's mainly down to the fact that they are compared to levels of the first three games, and they are not not as good as those are, for the most part, I think. That doesn't mean they are bad in their own right, you know what I mean? Well, some of them are 😛 I LOVE the first half of The Last Revelation, but from Cairo and onwards - yuck. Chronicles is pretty mediocre for me, but there are a couple of levels I adore in that game as well.

Great video, I didnt notice the time going by so fast. Makes me want to play the expansions, I never tried them, didnt know Lara was ever in Scotsland.

I love how the Music is used on each of these levels in a different way as a Gameplay element, part of the overall experience, used in key moments. Tomb Raider... legendary... never forgotten 🙏

I agree. The music of Tomb Raider is so good, and perfectly implemented in the game design.

I have mad respect for your work. First, you ranked the whole classic levels, which is a huge thing. Next, you actually made a pretty decent justification for each level being ranked. One of my favorite levels is Streets of Rome, but I recognize the level doesn't add much... Again, the nostalgia, can really make one rank up a specific level. :D Great job man, what a fantastic video!

@@AxMania you truly deserve it! This is such an amazing piece of work ❤️ haha to be honest, although I like the Ireland levels, I do agree that they’re not the best ones. They could have been so much better if the story and level design had been given more thought to match the atmosphere, so I wasn’t surprised or offended at all 😂 I would have loved for them to go full on horror with the Ireland levels and really lean into Irish mythology, which can be very scary. If they were going for something different, they should have gone all-out! I can’t wait to finish the video today 🥰❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

Yes, it's an amazing game with some absolutely amazing levels.

I'm not even into the TR games but this video is an absolute allstar for me. The informative, relaxing and enjoying voiceover paired with the nice editing with the music, the jokes and all that makes it easily one of my most favorite gaming-related videos on the platform. Tomb Raider 1 & 3 are the most fun I had playing the classic series. 2 & 4 are fine, and 5 is an up-and-down affair. Rome and Ireland aside, it isn't pleasant.

TR1 and TR3 are by far the best in the classic series in my opinion, they got the balance of exploration, puzzle solving and combat just right. TR2's overabundance of combat with human enemies brings it down for me. TR4 has great highs but the lows are easily the lowest points in classic Tomb Raider. And TR5 is painfully average throughout (except for the VCI levels which I quite liked, I know that's an unpopular opinion).

@@ToyotaKudoFan I think this is pretty much spot on! I agree with a lot here, especially the VCI part (one of those levels is genuinely great)

I think Madubu Gorge might be my favorite level, too. It has great design both visually and mechanically. I love how you start across from the temple but are thwarted by a raised drawbridge and you basically go on a huge detour with the kayak to find the back door.

I agree completely, very well said! The level tells an incredible narrative, through top-tier level design, atmosphere, setting etc. Very nice to meet another Madubu Gorge fan - we are not that many! 😅

@@AxMania it was hell but it was soo good!! Another fan here. The one thing that is striking in Tomb Raider is the impressive feeling of massive natural places that you get from the play through, even if you ever visit such a place in real life, you'll always be in company of someone else.. nobody ventures there alone uh? Well nobody but Lara :) being alone gives a plus to the experience. I remember I felt so damn little human while playing Madubu.. and that is a freaking whole vibe that this level in particular gives.

An incredible achievement making this video! So much nostalgia for the original games ❤️ I actually loved the cosmic horror elements of Atlantis, I really missed it in the remake. The pulsing of the walls and the heart beat was so atmospheric when I first played it~
