Washers and nuts are both used with bolts to secure objects together. Washers are thin, unthreaded plates with a hole in the middle that distribute the load of the fastener and help prevent it from loosening. Nuts are threaded fasteners that fit onto the end of a bolt and pull the work pieces together.
