Lol gonna try this strat.

10 years later I finally found this brilliant tactic... as cheesy as it might be, it worked wonders I cant believe I always took out the nydus worms prior to this mission every run and tried to deal with fliers.... this was a cakewalk in comparison. planetaries are def not required and I was low on gas up until the very end. having a disruptor on each side would prob make this run more smoother but once you hit critical mass of siege tanks. it really doesnt matter what you do so long as you carefully micro your tanks into their positions and dont unsiege all at once when repositioning now onto "in utter darkness" and I'll finally have my kerrigan portrait

I just did this strategy and it worked great. Thanks....Now all I have left is "In Utter Darkness" for my Kerrigan Portrait!

My guy, same. I've had just that one mission on my checklist for years. Not sure I'll ever get it.

3 tips: -A wall of PF's on the sidelines help protect your tanks untill you get a critical number. -Having a clean up squad of marines on the high ground is definitly worth it. -Pick the armor upgrade instead of the attack upgrade in the protoss tech tree, tanks then get just enough health from 1 armor upgrade to survive one of Kerrigans storm.

I play SC2 like from 2012 and I cant believe I explored this great tactic sooner :-D My tactics actually was not bad, but it worked only in Medium hard difficulty. Thanks a lot

Fantastic strategy! I had neither Planetary Fortress or Psionic Disrupter but the strategy worked wonders regardless. I walled myself in with Orbital Command Centers and pushed the siege tanks as close to the cliff as possible and it worked. Very easy indeed, would recommend! Thank you so much for this video!

This was my strat for getting the Aces High (hard difficulty) achievement as well. Traded some of the seige tanks to get 8 banshees for nidus worm clean-up and trained 10 or so marauders to defend against each kerrigan appearance while the tanks blow her up. Kept the 2 bunkers next to the artifact instead of a planetary. Built 1 extra factory and missle turrets by the mineral line at 8 minutes to deal with the overlord rush. Activate the artifact any time after 80% when your either overrun or the final kerrigan appearance. Marauder and banshee team combine for the final kerrigan defence and the tanks will bring it home.

Thanks for this. Just looking for a good way to manage Kerrigan, but I loved the tank melt zone very much, as well.

I love you I did it and seperated in to 2 siege tank sections and was able to survive till the end didn't even care about her storm. I was able to do it on hard and use the Nova only once when there was too many nydus worms

I was struggling so much with ebay blocks... banshee hit squads, bunkers and disruptor's. This won me the fight. You can still use ebays to give the tanks some cushion if you don't have planetaries then just put 4x bunkers and 2 orbital commands on the high ground (protects the relic and prevents nidus worms due to no space to pop out of). I even mix in 2 patrolling science vessels to help keep the tanks alive (since they were clumped and SVCs couldn't get close). Work like a charm - didn't even need the marine hit squad, just replaced the dead tanks.

hey ainxty, this strat worked for me, too. I had to restart a few time while i figured out the best way to get built up, but it worked. Also, I didn't have planetary fortress, so I moved a couple siege tank NW of the artifact (just above where you have your p. fortress in this video) and that kept the n. worms at bay from the artifact. Thanks for the strat man!

Err merrrr gerrrrd broooo!!!! Thank you so god damn much. I was spamming banshees since they ran out of energy so god damn fast they kept dying trying to kill the nudist worms. But I spent most my money on banshees and replacing tanks behind my CC’s I used to wall off and I couldn’t get it. I’m about to do this shit

Most of the strategies I see usually wall in the tanks with either bunkers & turrets or Planetary Fortresses. I've been nervous to try this one, been doing it on hard mode to practice. The only time it gets a little rough it with Kerrigan. She kills off my marines easy and takes me a while to Q'up more. And I usually don't have patience for the Nydus Worms spewing out hydras when I shoot them. But I'll try it out.

This strat works even without PFs. Just mass tanks with psi disruptors, missile/flame turrets around the artifact - only took me a couple tries.

All 4 top-tier researches have very good uses. Drop pods are good for surgical ghost/specter strikes and reaching heavily defended objectives on high difficulties (Gates of Hell on Brutal, for instance). Mind controlled Brood Lords are epic - even on brutal, the computer focuses on the broodlings and almost entirely ignores your Lords, letting you just chew your way through. Disruptors are better for a solid defense, and Tech Reactors for mass production. Depends on your play style.

Also there was a bug with Kerrigan. She passed by my cloaked banshees that happen to be revealed. She destroyed one before I got out of the detector's range. Then she seem to get lost and ran back to her starting position and just ran around in circles around there. I wonder if it can be reproduced.

The way that ring of energy from the artifact wiped out all the zerg in the area is how the nuke should work... it would break balance completely but it would be fun to watch something like that :P

I used a similar strategy to this just with bunkers and whatnot on hard and beat hard mode with no uses at all it was so epic I actually did a dance after getting aces high this is a good way to do it on brutal though thanks for the vid how did you handle kerrigans earlier attacks in the mission though? before you had all of that

God I've been trying to beat this for weeks now, and then I stumble upon this (much better than the perdition turret wall or the bunker thing) Suddenly - easy mode.

Nice,it works on hard mode with 2 planetary fortress on each way.

@Soccercrazyigboman I had the automated refinery upgrade, the tech reactor upgrade, and an additional factory. From there you just need upgrades and to make a few extra scvs, and you're more or less good to go.

This worked well no psi disruptors perdition turrets round the artifact.

Hey Ainxty how did you counter the air drops from overlords and lings with this strat?

I dont have the tech upgrade to reduce the friendly fire. Ive tried and tried but i cant get past 93.9% without owning the artifact with my tanks. if i re-load the campaign at an earlier stage and buy the upgrade will it lose all my brutal wins? like ive done everything on brutal except for this. Will i lose the data that ive done teh mall on brutal?

@Derinfrekans I used the hercules to transport tanks right ontop surrounding the artifact. Tanks tanks, and more tanks got me the win on brutal

@shane87smith They do it on hard, too. Build more seevies and you don't have a problem. If you got the seevie reactor it helps, too. They're just added to the causality list.

mind control is very good if you want to go the air way not the nydius way (basicly killing the nydius when you get to choose and fighting the air... you just mass mind-controll all air that comes to you and get an army of mutas that can kill the leviathan and/or kerrigan + the broodlords) just depends on playstyle

I actually dn't use seige tanks on hard for the achievement. I just use tons of banshees, marauders and medics. marauders being mainly meat shields until my banshee swarm kills them. also i find patrolling very useful when securing each side.

I did this exact strategy without psi disrupters, on brutal, and for all the achievements, i just spammed my unit cap with tanks, but i had the upper ledge litterally packed with tanks and my base aswell, the zerg just melt before they even reach the ramp. . .and for kerrigan, she was met with like 10 marines till the tanks got her down :D

Thought I'd mention it's possible to get Aces High achievement on hard using a similar strategy without even using the artifact once: - No need to destroy the merc compound, just line the tanks around them. - Have 4-6 banshees at a time, cloaked and taking out most of the nydus. - 2 PF and 5 turrets surrounding the artifact. (seemed overkill) - Psi disruptors are nice, but I didn't use them on hard. - It seemed the 1 factory and 1 barrack was plenty.

Bro I think this is the only way they just swarm so much I tried what you did in the video I didn't have the psi disrupters but my god I was stuck on this mission to long lol

I have had that amount of tanks but i still get overrun. i also used the nova. I die before i get to your point. care to explain how i get to your point and stay alive? care to explain why your waves are smaller than the ones that hit me?

@UFOczSlash The mission before gives you a choice to take out The Broodlords, and other air units, OR Nydus Worms.

You should built bunkers and flame turrets in front of your siege tanks. That will provide some frontline defenses and coverage for your siege tanks actually.

lol my first time through, I didn't have any sense. I went after the Nydus Canals. It was a bad move on my part. Ended up not finishing that playthrough.

In multiplayer only. Aside from bugfixes, the patches don't effect the campaign. Only multiplayer.

Yeah personally I thought the mind control tower was totally imba vsing mutas/brood lords. You just amass a HUGE army that way and it doesn't even add to food count. Also you build medivacs to assist mutas/brood lords and it's imba.

Just beat Brutal using this strat. Took me a couple tries and my macro wasn't as good as his. I ended up with less siege, but still enough. Only main difference was I put 4 planetary fortresses around the artifact. It kept my SCV's pretty safe while repairing them, had about 8 doing it. Make sure you don't blow your artifact until Kerrigan is ~1/2 way to the base, or your marines will get destroyed by followup zerg waves and the 'lisks she seems to arrive with.

only forget one thing if previously defeated the nydus worms any coming lots of air units so you would fucked up.

i tried like 100 times walling up and won this, also without the slowing turrets (i had mind control). Slowing turrets are lot better, mind control wasn't really much effective.

Was just as easy without the psi disruptors just massed siege tanks in the middle two planetary fortress. lost 20 worth of supply on the last kerrigan attack since I forgot to bring out my marines :(

I thought it was a generic punishment for a unit (century, legion, whatever committed the crime) for military crimes in general. Desertion is certainly one of them, but so would be failing to win what should've been an easy battle (if you have a hardass commander) or sacking a city you weren't supposed to.

A pack of marines is cheap and takes out kerrigan easily. Its best way, and I´ve tried seeker missiles, psionic slash, snipe, tanks, BCs and even mas planetaries.

@ainxty Some guy did almost the exact same thing and got through it easily without using a single nova. He loaded the top with flame turrets and had a wall on both chokes, but the general idea was the same.

lawl , just get 2 thor with stun upgreat, send in some other mechanic unit when kerrigan shows up so she wont kill thor (guess viking is cheepest she uses the ability on) and then kill her in stun lock.. that guy wastes still tone of units to kill kerrigan , i dont need nova for her
