Most of the Spartan assassinations are very surgical, whereas the Elite assassinations are much more flamboyant and aggressive. It's very characterizing.

Spartans want to be quick and effective about that. After all, besides the kig'yar, all other races are naturally far more resilient than humankind. For elites, however, is an extermination. And for some is a fun cat and mouse game.

the elite vs spartan assassinations really give the impression that the elites enjoy killing spartans, especially since the elite laughs after some assasinations.

Don't worry, the Spartan-3s enjoy it too, considering the whole "Orphaned by the war with the Covenant" thing. You can't see it behind the helmet, but every time a Spartan-3 grabs their UNSC-issue combat knife in an alien-infested warzone, they're smiling.

Awww, classic. I love the Reach assassinations. Hope they bring them back in Infinite. Also, never noticed, but in MCC, the shields don’t pop till after the animation is done. In classic Reach, the shields popped the moment the blades hit their target. Interesting.

@@nexemisroguelikes234 Don't wanna talk smack but there are many issues from Reach's PC/MCC release that never got fixed long after it came out. Including the audio problem. It's not as bad as it once was but sound effects are still lower than they should be. What I'm getting at is, I'm not holding out hope it will get fixed.

I haven't really paid attention to it myself, but I think that's because the shields are turned off. It's like in SWAT when you see shields pop after getting a headshot in Reach.

Imagine *not* wanting playable Elites back in multiplayer. You have to be out of your mind

And an Elite on Elite assassination I saw in an ANCIENT compilation video where the Elite rams his sword through the mouth of his opponent and pulls it out slow. I legitimately felt uncomfortable after watching that.

Infinite looks like weak borderlands junk. Weak sound effects and they brought back the ugly Reach AR.

Fun factL Elites were planned to have an assassination animation against Marines/ODSTs, but it got scrapped.

Something I appreciated in Reach is how they gave everyone cool and unique assassinations that even vary depending on what species you are and who you’re assassinating. Nowadays modern FPS games monetized assassinations and let you only pick one, which is very disappointing. Reach got this so right and I hope they bring this back in Infinite

Man looking back on it Halo Reach was so revolutionary. From armor abilities and some next level armor customization, to the introduction of assassinations THE most badass way to kill an enemy. Now even CoD games have them.

I loved how AGRESSIVE the elites were in Halo Reach, it really stepped up that feeling of them being apex predators

I've noticed quite the dynamic between different animations. Where as Spartan on Spartan animations are hard and efficient, the Spartan on Elite ones almost seem to be a scramble, as if they're trying to take every advantage of this opportunity, due to the size and proportionate strength of the enemy that was taken by surprise. And with Elite on Spartan, it's is as if they take pleasure out of the Spartans death, swinging their smaller body around as they become lifeless. A contrast to Elite on Elite assassinations, where there's a sense of speed in taking down the foe, using both energy blades to kill them in some cases.

I love how the Spartan assassinations focus on using their agility and technique whereas elites use their speed and strength to dominate their target

Is it just me or are brutes really hard to assassinate? You hit em from behind and nothing happens.

I like how the Elites just grab and fling the Spartans around like ragdolls. It shows just how ruthless and powerful the Covenant are, and makes you think "No wonder Reach fell so fast!". Heck, even the detail that the Spartans have to put up a genuine struggle to even just assassinate the Elites further proves my point, as you can visibly see how tough it is for the Spartans to kill the Elites, having to climb onto them, or that one where the Elite was squirming on the ground and the Spartan had to deal with it. Very well made!

I cannot express enough how much I LOVE the spartan tackle animation, when you assassinate an elite. It looks so cool, the spartan throwing all their body weight into the elite to knock them down before finishing them off.

This was great 10 years ago and still is.

They need to be completely unaware of your presence to assassinate them. This is only the case in MCC, OG Reach didn't have that requirement. I swear they also did something with the Brutes' hitboxes, because you also need to be slightly to the right of them just to beat them down.

i never realized it till now. but all of the assasinations in Reach are so brutal, and i love it. i especially love the sorta feeling difference between the spartan and elites. spartans just go for the basic stab or snap neck kill and move on. whiles elites are more ruthless. using multiple energy blades, and even tossing aside their prey in the most noncarring way possible. and i love it all! le sigh... if only 343 cared as much about assasinations and elites as much as Bungie did...

With enough force even a blunt knife can cut through metal.

The Spartan V Elite assassinations are all more calculated and efficient, and the Elite V Spartan assassinations are more brutal and ceremonial. A brilliant touch given Reach's timeline in the Halo lore.

Playing MW: Warzone in 2021 makes you scratch your head at how they got such quick and clean Assassination animations 10 years ago on last gen.

God, all the assassinations are so visceral and brutal, well done to the animators.

Wow, there are A LOT more assassinations than I originally thought there were. And this was the only game I played for year's.

One small detail that I loved about Reach assassinations is that you can see the spartan take out the knife from its sheathe. Other Halo games it just pops outta nowhere and vanishes afterwards.

The Elites ones I find disturbing because, as is fitting for them, they seem to take great pleasure in exterminating humans. That's a knife right to the spine being shoved by some of the strongest humans ever made, shit i even even a regular marine stabbing a Brute to the spine like that can realistically kill them, or instantly paralyze them at least

For anyone wondering how the knife can do this, I’ll just leave it at is a knife designed specifically for Spartans to be able to pierce armor and shields

Never understood how they made halo reach so well. I still look at this and go. "Wow thats a ten year game and it still looks that good"

I never knew there were so many! It's understandable that elite's aren't initially coming to Infinite due to the amount of effort required for such a feature. I still hope they pull through though.
