    One thing I would like to add for the cart vs cog debate is that it is usually a lot easier to defend a land route as you can build towers/castles along the route and at checkpoints to force raiders off them while with cogs it can be hard to cover enough area with towers/castles to properly defend them from attacking ships

  • @williamschultz4892
    @williamschultz48924 жыл бұрын

    I think they changed the trade cogs since you did this--the cogs now automatically trade at the FARTHEST docks, rather than the nearest. A discovery I made at the cost of losing my entire trading fleet due to the enemy tower I hadn't noticed when I invested all my gold into trade cogs . . . But, it is a useful fix.

    This video really puts into perspective just how important getting some relics are in maps. Don't get me wrong, they're always important seeing as how they're passive, free resource generation, and you want to deny that benefit to your enemies as much as possible. But learning that a single relic is about as efficient as a fully upgraded villager on a gold mine in post-Imperial really helps put that in perspective. That can be a pretty fair amount of money over the long term, especially if a game drags into a prolonged trash fight.

    I like how rise of nations expanded on the trade route mechanics. While you were limited to one caravan per route and one market per city, your caravans could trade between any two allied or neutral markets on the map. In solo games this beggan with your second city, bu increased geometricaly as you added more cities and markets. In team games it expanded even sooner and faster as allies built markets themselves.

  • @thomasniehof6333
    @thomasniehof63334 жыл бұрын

    Nice video, man! Since you always do the math behind AoE2, do you know what the ideal number of Trade Carts is on a route without obstacles, based on each map size? The larger the map size, the more Trade Carts you can have on that route without them bumping into each other. Also, this video proves that trade routes where both Markets are in the corner of the map are actually quite inefficient.

    Although not relevant for the calculations, I feel it is worth mentioning that the trade cog is built much faster than the cart. Brilliant video otherwise, and I love the intro. :)

    I just watch these for fun, I'm terrible at the game, and even if I was good, nobody needs to min max to this extent. Optimal berry foraging, wall placement, farms, everything is examined in these videos. I'm surprised gold wasnt already covered.

    there really should be an option to have a trade cog set a specific dock as its "home," prioritizing that dock for the return trip, or maybe just prioritize a certain dock as a trade hub period

    Hello Spirit Of The Law and everyone ! I am asking myself a question : what is the best way to improve my skill ? Should I focus on some build, better play aggressively or defensively ? And is there a best strategy in FFA ? :) Sorry for the questions a bit unrelated to the videos ! I really liked it as all your others ones ! Can't wait to see your content with the defenitive edition ( I hope everything you taught us since now won't change too much )

    I like to build a market basically 5 seconds away from an ally's and have a bunch of trade carts going back and forth. That way you just have a constant stream of gold and dont have to wait for carts to make a journey.

    You do have to invest into trade route defenses which can be quite hefty, especially when the people you don't trade with get jealous. Relics on the other hand are fairly straight forward to maintain. Just a bit of polish every month, dust off its pedestal in the crypt and give the guarding monk a keg of ale.

    What about dropping a market/dock near your ally? Does the reduction in distance and potential traffic counterbalance the reduced gold rate?

    I know this Video is pretty old but i wanted to say that I would've really appreciated a quick result-overview in estimated gold per minute for every way to obtain gold on one screen at the end. In my opinion that wouldve put a nice finish to the video. Nevertheless the Video explained everything very well, thank you

    When do you should start trading with your allies? I have see many players that start on imperial age when they ran out of mining places, guess they spend the resources of trade carts on army at the early and mid game, other players start trading as soon as they can. Which option is better?

    So is the map distance measured by time spent travelling or the distance between marketplaces? as in: could you build a maze to make carts travel a huge map percentage while staying relativly safe?

    Hey SoTL, i have a video idea for you. You know how whenever you are calculating cost-effectiveness you either say gold has the same value as gold or 1.5x the value of food/wood. How about making an entire video on that, on how the value of resourcesfluctuates over time. For example, food is the most valuable resources at the start of the game and holds a lot of that value over on Feudal and castle age, but on imperial it losses that value. Maybe is a little to complicated to analysis, but who knows.

    Dry dock, despite its apparent no change in the gold rate, changes the gold drop time. That can be meaningful on tight timing.

    Is it possible to approximate a curve for the trade gold reduction taking into account volume of trade carts? Take gold per minute of a generic game and then count the number of carts on that route, would be really tedious to get a reliable result though.
