Crazy that everyone is talking about de Groots scrummaging when England spent all game not engaging and hinging. Why would the clearly dominant scrum want to cause issues? The Christie slander is weird. Hes obviosuly not Aaron Smith, but the reason TJ got injured was literally because he stuffed around at the base of the ruck when the ball was available. If he had just cleared the ball at speed he wouldnt be injured. Wheres the same TJ critique? And the reason Christie (and DMac/Beauden) kicked so much in the second half was because it was an obvious coaches directive. Players dont go just go against the coaches game plan, or they get dropped. He was obviously doing what he was told to so, the whinging about those players kicking is weird. Not to mention the kicking lead to us gaining field position which won us the second half penalties and the game. So lets get behind Christie and hope he plays well, we all want every All Black to do their job after all.

@@nickbassett1964 It actually all happened in wee fraction of time. I have watched it back. The injury happened because as Perenara was in the process of clearing the ball Barrett got driven back on him. Whether or not Peranara is fluffing about, the injury occurred due to Barrett being driven back in the ruck. If Barrett holds his post then the injury does not occur. Barrett is on top of the English player who is on the ground. Barrett not only allows him up but then gets driven back. Perenara I'm sure would have expected better protection than that from his captain.

Big question is do England have one more big performance in them? It’s the end of an 11 month season for them. If the ABs get away I could see them collapsing and no one could blame them. We know ABs will get better, they don’t lose at Eden Park… but… and its a big but… England are evolving under Borthwick and he is a detail guy, he will also have learned from last week, the ABs have all the pressure on them and that may weigh heavy… A stretch I know but can’t wait and hope we get another great test…

  • @LegendaryWizball

ABs have a few things to sort out. Need Jordan back as the long term 15. Need Roigard back as the long term 9. Either Ratima or Hotham to step up as the bench halfback. We need to decide who our 13 is. And we need to settle on the loose forwards. Is Ardie a 7 or an 8?Is Sititi the big body we have been searching for? Who will be our Kaino at 6? And is that person tall enough? Then next year hopefully add Holland as a lock. And most of all we need Richie back from Japan. It’s speculated there are moves to get this done sooner rather than later.

  • @TwoCentsRugby

I think Ardie is an 8 with Razor cos he seems to like his 7s to mainly just tackle the house down - Matt Todd and Tom Christie at the Saders - now Dalton with the ABs. But yeah Jordan and Roigard back in the mix will be interesting

Jordan to 15 or 14? Since Jane and Ben Smith there's a lot to be said for a great attacking fullback on the right wing and Jordans strike rate from there is phenomenal. If Perofeta can be a solid, classy no fuss fullback like Muliaina maybe leave him there? Or put Jordan at 15 with solid wings?

I’ve done a bit of digging… I’m not entirely sure this 1st test = best chance to beat ABs received wisdom is entirely correct… 2014 : 1st test 20-15 to ABs, second test England lost by 1 point. 2016 : beat Wales 39-21 in first test, second test 36-22 2017 : ABs beat Lions 30-15 in first test, Lions win 24-21 in second test, drawing the third test. 2018 : beat France in first test 52-11, second test is 26-13. 2022: ABs beat Ireland by 42-19 in first test, Ireland win 23-12 in the second test, going on to win the third test. So looking at the last 10 years, the second test is often the better chance for the touring side to claim a win. The 16-15 was the closest opening game to a NZ tour in over 10 years. History suggests that England have a chance to make their own history on Saturday night (morning). Eden Park is a hell of a record but everything has to come to an end.

AB's: Justin Marshall got lit up over how Razor (how did he get that nickname? It's not obvious to me) failed to prepare the AB's for the English blitz defense. In JM's opinion, the Rugby international coaches have all focused on how poorly the AB's have dealt with that type of defense. OK - assuming JM has it right, it makes no sense to me that Beaudie is on the bench. If there's any AB that can combat the blitz defense with short and grubber kicks, it's Beaudie. I'd put him in at 11 and instruct him to beat the blitz with kicking. and the ABs need to tighten it up in the lineouts and win their own throw ins. Eng: Baxter had a good match last week and is a quality replacement for Marler. Smith has to make his kicks (both sides really, as 2cents pointed out) Get Beaudie on the starting side, and let him kick because he wants to, not because the ABs have to. Watched the Irish/Boks match carefully today. The AB's better up their game if they want to win versus either of those two sides.
