This channel is quickly becoming one of my favorites. Matt you really outdid yourself with this one! Thank you for all that you do sir!

With social media we don’t ever teach others how to plan, prep, and find places. We shut them down as soon as they ask “where’s that?” We need to help them learn how to find and plan routes.

The flow of this episode was so smooth. My favorite episode yet!

I think most people do not like to share what they have found because they hope to return to it someday and relive the memory they had when they first found it. I feel that it is a persons option to share what they have found. If they find themselves sharing information and they return to the later on and it is trashed or the trail is destroyed, then they may rethink the idea of sharing. I agree that within your patreons we cherish what you have found and have the same beliefs of "leave no trace". Thank you for all you have done! You have truly inspired me to get out and adventure more.

Matt in answer to your comment about whether to share locations or not, just let me say this. I spent 3 hours today getting a personal tour of Bub's cabin by Bub himself.......... priceless!! I knew about Union Schoolhouse from another friend of mine but never would have found the treasure that is Bub and that homestead if I hadn't watched your channel. I agree there is risk in sharing these awesome places, but also rewarding. I think more people are aware of the efforts to preserve Union School because people shared it's story and location. Keep going you and this channel are appreciated. Some people will hate on sharing no matter what.

The price of gas is definitely a problem but we aren’t going to let it stop us from going places. We may have to quit spending so much on things we don’t need but our time out on the trails are to enjoyable to give up. I think you are doing right by only giving your maps to your patreon supporters and I’m not one yet. People that pay to help you do what you love are more likely to take care of land and not trash it. We love watching you and Cara. May God bless you in your travels.

I just returned from a 2200 mile trip to Central Florida and back, just missed the stupid price increase. The avg. price I paid was $3.54, still expensive considering I was pulling the wife's JKU on a trailer!

Unfortunately, I already cut things I don't need. There's not much left that I can cut.

Those of us coming to the Ozarks from out of state and not as much time as we would like the shared stuff gives us a much better experience

I think you are like a 24/7 overlanding store with tons of knowledge and experience and fun along the way. And you are spot on... I don't want people to tell me where to go and where the hidden gems are, finding them or your own is a part of the adventure and excitement 😁

If it weren't for you sharing the OOAT routes with us we most likely wouldn't have come to Ozarks. For those of us coming from out of state and only having a specific amount of time it is very helpful to have the routes. I wish we had more time to explore but for us, this is exploring. Thanks for the videos, they are awesome!!!

I completely agree with you! I would point people in the right direction for newcomers and let them find their own hidden gems. It’s a way of inspiring them to get out and explore and have fun and discover new places and opportunities for growth and improvement of what they know and will become to know. I would keep my favorite spots for me and family members and close friends. I have no problem with others new or even seasoned overlanders or weekender landers pointing them in the right direction by helping them and inspiring those who have the same mindset and morals to our world and how beautiful it is if you just get out and explore with family and friends. I am in agreement with you of sharing and helping others there is no better feeling than knowing you inspired someone or helped someone who just needed a little push in the right direction to accomplish either goals or dreams. Our time is here is not guaranteed each day. So each day is precious to us all. Thank you for what you do and wish you and your family all the best and love the videos brother!

After watching Ozark, recently bought a Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Sahara. Can’t wait to go overlanding with it.

Sharing locations to Pateron subscribers is probably the best way because it would be to like minded people who more than likely be good stewards of the back country.

Nice job on this. The reality of being "out there" but actually close to civilization is a good thing to show potential campers so they are not afraid to try new things

I think I will be doing short trips close to home. I’m lucky enough that I live close to some beautiful trails. Gas here in Northern California is $4.68. It went up $0.60 in 2 days. I’m also very glad that I have a car for every day commuting, and can save my truck for fun stuff.

Don't even get me started on gas prices. I took 48 hours of Political Science and Economics in college and have studied politics and economic principles for 20 years, taught high school history, government and economics for 16 years since then so I am sure no one wants to hear my completely logical economic and fact based analysis of our current fuel cost situation. But if the price of fuel gets too much higher we will definitely have to rethink some really epic adventures we have planned including a trip to the Ozarks this summer. But enough of that, great video!!! Your channel introduced me to the Ozarks and can't wait to go! I think sharing "how to" find off the grid trails and places but not necessarily sharing all of your epic trails and spots. That is a terrific spot by the way!

Yes It is definitely affecting my wheeling. I live 1.5 hours from any kinda places to go. My 94 Z71 drinks gas so im definitely planning more.

What an amazing spot! Moving to the area soon with a brand new Gladiator being delivered hopefully by July. Your videos have really helped me get started with this hobby. As for the sharing waypoints, I would be torn too. If everyone knows about all the best spots, they will likely become overcrowded and eventually unusable. Although, we do appreciate you sharing some! Being new to an area and trying to find good spots may take years and at least those of us new to this hobby can get out and enjoy some decent spots! I think the right thing is for those of us who do get the waypoints to return the favor and pay it forward whenever we find new spots on our own. Thanks for what you do and we're glad to support.

@Ozard Overland Adventures Matt our interests are aligned. Like you, I want to help people get out and explore. Thank you for opening my eyes to the beauty of the Ozarks. A place I truly didn't know much about. Also, the whole Patreon thing just blows my mind. I had no idea that this many people would open their hearts and wallets to support you. As a small creator, I find that quite humbling. But at the same time, it scares me that I know about these places now. Because it means others know as well. And it's always that one bad apple that ruins it for everyone else. You and I are about the same age. Over the course of my life, I've been on so many trails such as Lion's Back, etc that are now gone, and the ability to share them with others has been taken away from me.

I have probably ridden my SxS on some of the same trails as you. Even followed some Jeepers out there, till the folks I was riding with decided they needed to go faster. Now I have decided I want more. I have spent the last few months making my vehicle ready. I have made a few miscalculations, but feel I am almost ready to venture out. You were actually one of the first I watched,and you were helpful in getting me started. As far as social media, well I don't have much use for it! This channel is about as far as I care to go. So I hope to see you at the Moore Expo this year,and maybe have a minute to chat with you. Keep up the good work!

Agree with you 100% about finding locations for yourself. Pointing them in one direction is great. Giving them the GPS coordinates makes it to easy. The journey in getting there is what really pushes a great spot to a spectacular site.

Your videos, especially the OOAT videos, are what sparked my interest in offroading and exploring the national forest. I literally went from a stock jeep in the late summer of 2020 to building a slightly more capable Jeep with the intention of doing the OOAT. I don't want this to sound judgmental in anyway, but you have to remember there are a lot of people out there, myself included, that don't have $90K rigs, re-geared with 37s, lockers and all the other bells in whistles, and we also don't have your experience. My greatest fear in getting in over my head. So when we see a vehicle more similar to ours (your old JK, and some of the other people that don't have crazy built rigs that are on your channel) on a specific route, it instills a little bit of confidence that we can handle that particular trail/obstacle etc... I think that is why people are interested in your routes....its more a comfort level thing as opposed to a just wanting your "hidden gems". I can also see the other side of it too. If you, and others like you, make everything public on basic social media, you run the risk of people over-running the Ozarks that have no respect for nature and the rules, both written and unwritten, and I have seen enough of your channel to know you wouldn't want any part of that. I totally understand that. However keep in mind that the Gladiator is a different rig than the Wrangler. While it may be built on 37s, I did that to make it as capable as a JK/JL on 35s to compensate for the longer wheelbase. So if I can do something in the Gladiator on 37s then a JK/JL will have no issues on 35s. Does that make sense?

After 15 years of rock crawling, I really enjoy your videos. We found out in Colorado that the scenic, exploration was just as much if not more fun. Yes overland is expensive, but so is bashing your rig on rocks constantly. I am glad you share what you do as I’ve never been to the ozarks. Wouldn’t have a clue where to start. But I am looking forward to trying this next phase of wheeling out. Please keep doing what you’re doing….thanks Matt

Yes the price of gas will effect my plans. I was going to LBL today but stayed home to work on my motorcycle. I camp out of the Tacoma and on my bike. Looks like a bike kind of year. At least I have both. I was coming to the Moore Expo but now I don't know.

Giving knowledge is a double-sided coin. I say that because in overlanding you never know if the person that is watching or asking is going to care for the area the way you would. I am a beginner and am thankful for all the creators that share all they do, but I fell that it is better to just show the highlights of the area to the viewer and encourage them to get out and explore and find places they like. If a person is given a location and just drive straight to that location it takes away from the adventure. love your videos and have learned a great deal.

LOVE the new intro! Gas might affect our travels if it continues to climb. We’ve saved up pretty well so we will be ok at least this year. Sharing site info…it’s a toss up and I think I would fall into your line of thinking if I had a lot to share. Friends n family yes, but just point others in the right direction. It’s a blast finding locations while out in the middle of nowhere. Can’t wait to see Boo out there w the lift on next! Love that color!

I appreciate you sharing some of your routes and completely understand not sharing all of them. I drive down from Nebraska so it's not like I can just go out and do a day trip to explore. I do explore while down there.

Since you asked for comments...One thing about sharing new locations is that it will disperse some overlanders from the more frequently used trails. I think the people seeing a trail on social media will probably only cause a brief uptick in usage in the new trail. Of course, nobody likes telling where their favorite fishing hole is. IMHO

This cahannel is one of my new favorites. I am an aspiring light overlander who is hoping to get out and start doing some overnight trips this fall. I live in north Texas and often travel to south east Oklahoma and western Arkansas to ride MTB. I love how your channel is not only about your adventures but how you help to inspire others to get out and explore and find their own adventures.

Great , where you left the highway was 4 minutes from my cabin. The closed bridge is the largest laminated bridge. Yes to much have been Close to jeepers after 40 years of jeeping.love it tire track jeep Cherokee

I can appreciate the routes and guides because there isn't a national forrest in my back yard. I am in Kansas City, MO and its at least 3-4 hours to get there and not having any experience makes it hard for me to take a chance on getting down there and not be for sure where to go or what to do.

Discovery is the funniest part of any adventure. I started climbing 14ers in 1980. Now they are overcrowded because of social media. It is a joke now really, people are wearing tuxes and dresses up summits, women taking tops off and posting pics of their back on a summit. Now I go elsewhere, places sometimes perhaps nobody has ever explored. Overlanding is the same thing. Back in the 80s Ouray and all the 4x4 roads were uncrowded. Now it has become a joke. I still go back, but it isn't as enjoyable as it used to be. I think your videos are great and I think your philosophy is good. Educate but keep the most epic locations secret.

Heck no, gas isn’t going to stop me from my son and I getting out into Mother Nature as much as we can! I’ll live off Bologna and ramen if it means we get to explore more! “Adventure is out there!”

Half the fun is getting there, I asked you for a tip last month for an entry point to the Ozarks. From there every left and right turn was the adventure. I was shocked when I found one of your camp sites, it was the one with the swing rope. Overlanding for me is just that exploring and testing my rigs and my capabilities. I do not like knowing where I am going to be sleeping when I explore thats just me. While my trip got cut short because of the down pour the Ozarks got as I was traveling down there. I plan on heading back this year! Colorado in July, thinking Aug/Sept time frame.

Hey Matt; You posed the question about social media and sharing sites and routes. I think you are spot on about people just not knowing where to go or how to get there. The more we can grow the "sport" the more accepted it will be. I live in Corpus Christi Texas and have to travel a day just to get anywhere. Big Bend has always been my go to, but I have been all over that park and looking for options that will help me get my 'Fix", so thank you!

Thanks for another great video. The Social Media thing, All of the places I know, I found by getting out and exploring. I have been places and did not know where I was at, but that road or trail was going somewhere and eventually, I got to a place that I did know where I was at and figured out how to get home! THAT is the fun of getting out and exploring. Paying somebody a few bucks to get info that you have gathered just seems to take away from the experience. That is only my opinion! Those that need coords for a particular campsite that you were at for one night aren't really looking for the adventure of exploring. They want to experience a short time that they didn't have to work for and it is not the same as doing it on your own. It just isn't the same. There are no shortcuts to having the real experience of finding something on your own, even though it may be a spot that hundreds of others have experienced. I am not saying that it is wrong to share information and help others, it just isn't the same as doing it for yourself. Know what I mean???

So I’m new to overlanding and I live in a part of Texas where it’s kinda hard to overland because of all the private land so when I come to Arkansas I’m kinda clueless and I read maps and still trying to learn but sometimes you just have a long weekend and I’ve already drove 5 plus hrs and just a location to start with so you can explore the next day is really nice but I do understand the that’s part of the adventure if you ever come to the Davy Crockett national forest I’m here to help ya lol

Haha, don't blow up my local four-wheeler riding haven. I live just north of the river from there .. I think that section of road you're near had to be redone with a bypass because of a huge landslide a few years ago.

Answering your question: I’m paying $5.19/gal here in California & that’s for vehicles that manage 15mpg give or take: Ford F-150 & Jeep JL. GOOD TIMES!!! 👍🏻

Sadly for us Floridians its gonna hurt. Hurricane season is around the corner so gas will play HUGE part on summer planning and so on. Keep on the great work!

I live in Ontario Canada and our gas went up to $1.97/litre, insane. BUT I won't let that stop me from going places. Men i enjoy watching your adventures. I'm learning things by your videos to how to prepare myself. I'm planning on travelling by myself and my puppy, just not sure what I will be buying yet! Appreciate your videos and keep them going!!

The price of gas has a huge impact on my trips. I’m in east Texas, and other than beaches, off-road parks and dirt back roads we don’t have much for wheeling. I want to get to the Ozarks this year, but right now just to get there and back would be over $250 on gas alone. Plus what gas I burn while I’m there.

It is going to change our summer plans. We are at just under $2.00 a litre this week in Ontario Canada. Talk about painful. Love watching you video, very inspiring!!!

To answer your question about gas $$...yes, the current and expected future price of gas is definitely affecting the planning for at least my next 2 trips...to the point that 'they' have become 1(the May trip). I live in sw Pa. Filled up today it was $4. Up 30 cents since last fill up. My wife and i are disabled veterans so we're on a fixed income so i don't know how much traveling we'll be doing. Probably going to just go camping and hiking instead of overlanding/site seeing.

Definitely a problem with gas prices. I wanted to go to Florida's jeep trail but not sure now. Even camping every weekend is not happening 😒.

Yes it will get worse we are 3.99 a gallon here in Alabama. Expected to go up more tonight. We had plans to drive to the Moore expo, and build a offroad overland trailer. All thing are on hold until things come down.

Without your channel and the OOAT, I know we would be clueless for sure. The Gaia maps training has helped considerably to keep is from trespassing and also traveling safer.

Epic campsites....... cold wedding tackle.

We will cut back in other areas to make sure we get out and enjoy the great outdoors.

I enjoy your videos and the way you share. I, like you want to help people get outside, but only share locations with people I in my groups that I travel with or people that I 'guide' on weekend adventures.

The price of gas doesn’t affect what trips I take however it could cause me to cut back on some other things. Enjoyed the new intro btw 🤙🏼

The price of gas impacts a lot, where i live in Portugal the price went up 14,5 cents and we pay 1.74€ per liter of diesel and 2.00€ per liter of gasoline or gas and thats without the 14,5 cents!! Oh and our minimum wage is 705€ so yeah it impacts a lot... Still i kill a bit of my urge for adventure watching you guys so yeah thx for that

Gas has changed my plans a bit .I will doing more overlanding on my motorcycle on easier drier trails. The motorcycle does avg 55 mpg during easy off roading.

Good call on not crossing.. risk vs reward especially when alone and it's not an emergency
