Brilliant video thank you :) I was just about to ask what the point of things like riso and screen printing are when you can use digital prints, and then I saw your link in the description :D thank you

No point, offset is way cheaper and faster for large batches. At this point only artists use Riso it's hard to fake the analog effects digitally
I like how you're just swishing duster around

This was the most informative video on risograph I've ever seen thank you so much!!!😭😭 I'm definitely going to look into your other videos because i want to get into risograph to make zines👀👀
Pretty dang thorough video. This is only the second video I've watched on this printing technique that apparently I hadn't heard of until an art center here in Chicago posted they'd be bringing classes for it back.
Thanks so much for this - I love your thoughtful approach and style!!
I discovery this print technic only now and find your chanel, very cool intro of the risography. Thank you!
love this overview! I learned so much and it was a blast watching and listening to you! The duster was crucial.
Saw this on tumblr and subscribed! You're so clear and informative and I didn't know about this kind of printing process before! Big zine dreams!!! Also your voice is very relaxing! Keep up the good work, support canadian printers!!!
I'm planning to fall in love with riso, and your video is really helping me to do that. Thank you!
so helpful and so in depth! thank you for making this, risographs are too cool! just the color chart alone is art!
Thanks for this video! It's very informative and your explanation made everything really clear. I'll look into riso when I finish making the zine I'm working on
Your voice is very soothing and this process is really cool. You should make a second info video on how the masters are created!
I love you already. Def going to check your store out when I finish my Zine.
Great presentation, beautifully clear and informative - best Riso explanation I have seen and great fun to watch - thank you!

Wow, this is a fantastic explanation. Thank you very much! What an amazing machine.
Huh, this is really interesting. I keep seeing Riso being mentioned, but had no clue what it meant. It kind of reminds me of screen printing, with the registration marks. Really beautiful outcomes.
This was veeeery helpful, I liked how you explained it! :) Thank you

Thank you so much! I'm really glad that my video was useful to you! Hope you have a great rest of your week!
1) Use the Riso FW5130 series, which is full color. Ink is very similar (I wouldn't be surprised of it's the same ink). It also does not use a master so no reason to refill masters or empty them. 2) Use at least once a day (twice a week minimum) as it is ink based and will clog up the holes and you'll need to call a tech to unclog them. 3) Try leaving the printed pages to dry before running it through the machine again to avoid roller Mark's in the second pass. There is no heating element (unlike copiers) so you have to let it air dry. 4) It is a high volume machine so if you're going to run fewer than 30 prints, you might as well use a copier as it is cheaper. 5) We're basically talking about a glorified ink jet printer so take similar cautions as you would an ink jet. 6) Risos are built around the ink and the guy who invented it said as much Therefore inks are very expensives.

Thanks so much for this very thoughtful comment! I will look into that machine, since I haven't heard of it before. I do always airdry for at least a half a day, a whole day if my deadlines permit me. :-) But the ink still smudges when there's heavy coverage, and sometimes artists just spray fixative on the prints tbh. It's true that the riso becomes more cost effective as volume goes up, for sure!!! Thank you again for the comment!!

Videos like this make me happy, as Riso is awesome, but also sad because mine is just sat gathering dust as 99% of my print jobs for people these days end up being best suited to laser and thus that is what I end up doing :(. It's the low number issue that you mention, people just want 1-5 of stuff they just don't 'get' it. My poor, poor riso :(. Superb video though :D, really explained it well. Perhaps I should just send potential clients and link to it to explain better than I do haha.

Hello! I only have a riso in my studio so I can't print laser. Most of the people who come to my studio want riso specifically so it works out! I will come out with another video soon explaining the main differences between laser and riso (once I get over this cold that I have), but please feel free to share this if you think it will help clients understand the process better! Thanks so much for your note!!

I'm interested in your comment. I was just sitting here wondering how in the world this process could possibly compete with either inkjet or laser, both of which register perfectly and dry completely on a wide variety of papers, including coated grades. Olivia says in the video that she can only use uncoated paper, the ink never really dries, her customers some times get ink on their hands from her finished product, she has trouble with tracking marks, and registration is not guaranteed. How is that "far superior"? (Full disclosure - I am retired from nearly 40 years in the printing industry, both offset lithography and letterpress.) This is not meant as any kind of negative comment; I just don't understand.
ya babey!!!
Extremely informative. After watching this, why would anyone even bother with a risograph?
