    Only other thing to add is that O2 compatible lube is more expensive than regular silicon lubricants, so likely the reason why they are usually reserved for lubrication when high concentrations of O2 are required.

    The Silicon Spray. I use it on my Mask Skirt and Strap, Snorkel hose. Found it helps it last longer in chlorinated pools.

    This was part of my nitrox class but I have come to understand that our lds does some things very well, others not as much, and teaching is a strong point (good people). Not to start a soap box but I learned about lubricants and o2 in my highschool small engine class (another great teacher).

    I always use cristolube when servicing my regulatoers for another good reason, this lube offers a much better lube film than sat the DOW corning 111 that normally used for lubing rubber Orings and a small pot last for years so it is not that expensive. for sure that using current petrolium grease calls for trouble where the gas used is pure oxygen, as in medical and welding equipment. I 've saw a welding oxygen regulator that have been partially molten due to the use of grease at the assembly , it demonstrate the necessity to use specific lube where oxygen is used. very good topic very good video

    Love your videos. Im an old guy who is still diving and have a question for you. What is it with folks NOT diving with a snorkel? Seems crazy to me. and yet most divers i see in the pacific nw dont use them. To me except for my mask its my most important piece of equipment. Yes its not needed at depth but most problems happen at the surface on the swim to an from the shore . Whats your thought?

  • @AlecPeirceScuba_SeaHunter

    The snorkel is a required item for all divers from every recreational group I know. Many ditch it due to reasons like flat water (that day), travel space, comfort, etc. It should still be carried in case of emergency (they have rolled up snorkels). I still dive with one always. A

    I just got my Nitrox cert! The manual says that new equipment can be usually used with up to 40% nitrox. So, do manufacturers usually use regular silicon lube or oxygen compatible?

  • @zachdenney

    @zachdenney

    Жыл бұрын

    up to 40% you can use silicone grease on reg. where you want to be careful is tank side... sometimes when tanks are filled using partial pressure method they will get dumped with 100% o2 and backfilled to the correct mix... in that scenario any silicone grease on the tank connection will be subject to much higher percentages than 40. make sense? so, any tank o-rings that are nitrox based you either need to know 100% how the tank is being filled or use nitrox lube.

    What kind of breathing oil do you use in your compressor?

  • @AlecPeirceScuba_SeaHunter

    @AlecPeirceScuba_SeaHunter

    Жыл бұрын

    There really is no such thing as breathing oil. The oil used in a compressor is there to lubricate the compressor just like a car engine. It cannot be breathed. The compressor filter system removes any oil & oil vapor. The oil used is compressor oil. That may sound like a stupid answer but is quite accurate. There is a special oil just for compressors because of the extreme pressure & heat. You still cannot breath it! Imperial Oil (ESSO) sells compressor oil, as well as other companies.
