On this video I go over different versions of frame JIG's in the shop and why we use them. I also show how you can build a frame JIG for your project that will keep your car from having major issues down the road.

Thank you!. I think if you are comfortable at welding and have patience it is possible to be able to build your own. Good luck with your project and Ill keep trying to put some more videos I feel may be useful out in the future.
You may just have a very early production 74 that used the 73 specs. You make some of the best videos due to the detail and explaining things in a good natured way.

Thank you for your video. I'm about to start a project on a 72 Nova. I am doing frame rail replacement, floor replacement, trunk floor pan etc... I will be making my own jig and your video is very inspiring thank you for that.

Honestly I am hopeful to build a Chevelle down the road. I know a guy looking for the right car to possibly have me restore once he finds it so you never know. Thanks for the comment and I like the square tubing JIGs for sure. For the weight of them then can be a better option.

Thanks a lot. Looking back now the answer is the frame chart was a misprint as I still to this day see no differences and they all have shared Jigs
Thank you very much for this video. I'm getting back on my 72 Camaro restoration and will need a frame jig. Actually I've been putting it off just because I'm needing to figure out what I need. This really takes alot of guess work out of it. I cant tell you how much time I have looking for something that will level a jig. Now I just need to figure out the length of my jig, find some I beams and get some .035 wire. Thanks again, Russ

Your are welcome Russ, good luck on your 72 build.
I know this is an old video but maybe a short video on how to read a frame measurement chart. And where each measurement point is on a car and even the names of the different locations on the car would be really helpful. I have a line on a great 70 GTX going to need a ton of metal work and frame rails. Want to make sure they are 100% right. Don't know many people around here that would take on a repair like this and finding a pro shop to do it would be cost prohibitive. If I build a frame Jig and can figure out the measurements I'm sure I can handle it with alot of patience and measuring 30 times each. 😂

We will see what the future holds on something like that and will take it into consideration. Its hard to be very specific as most of these cars are completely different. I do a lot of specific stuff with measurements on E bodies, but that wouldn't help you.

Excellent video, thank you for sharing this…I am needing to build the exact same thing for my 71’ challenger! Mine was drag raced very heavily many years ago which twisted the body where now it needs to be remedied. Keep up the great work saving these cars brother! I do know that in 1973-74’ cars went to iso suspension which might have changed a couple of things but it may just be a different measurement due to different component mount points…I’m not sure about that but if I find anything I will let you know.

Thank you, I am going to try and format the SD card in the future between videos instead of just deleting the videos I am hoping that's what part of the problem was.
This video may motivate others to make their own jig to get a project started. I found the video educational because jigs are not just for restoring cars.

I lied Rick, this guy went a step further. Rust Bucket Restos, 1971 Cuda front clip episode#2 You Tube@@carthageclassiccars
Did you ever come up with a reason on the dimension change at the 73-74 break? The 74 Challenger also same just wondering if the front rails used until then were B body, then final year of production had their own? Nice work, by the way.
@carthageclassiccars
6 ай бұрын
Thanks for watching and for reminding me. 70-74 Challenger had no frame differences and the 70-74 Cuda frame measurements were exactly the same everywhere i measured. I put a 70 on this JIG after this car was done and it fit perfect. Don't quote me to be 100% accurate on saying I believe the 71-74 b body should have the same front rails and everything forward of the firewall I believe.
Thanks for another great video. I will be incorporating a K frame and pin locations from a car that has not been wrecked. So I can slide it under an identical car that has been wrecked. I hope it works out that the pin locations are accurate car to car off of the assembly line. If not, I'm thinking Adjust Or replace Parts so the car to fit the jig ??

Yes that is for the most part what I do with my JIG I have for the e -bod cars. I think you are on the right track and when I put front frame rails in cars that need them it has worked out well.

They come from all over depending on what car I am working on at the time. There might be some assumption here thinking you are looking for a ford maverick? I did a quick search and some guy is selling them for $10 on ebay for the maverick platform, might reach out to him and see if they will help you out. Honestly the popular cars, first gen F-body, mopar b-body, e-body, the mustang platforms are relatively easy to some by since so many are doing restorations on them.

How would you support it if you were replacing a dynacorn trunk assembly
@carthageclassiccars
Жыл бұрын
With the Cuda in this video I am installing a full trunk, tail panel, trunk gutters, wheel houses and literally the entire back section of the car minus the frame rails. So this is exactly how I would support the frame rails and build off them.
@twmotox
Жыл бұрын
@carthageclassiccars that's my problem. I know once I take the back section off I wint have the rails. I'm not sure how to support the car while I change it. I did build some temporary frame rails out of box steell and I may use those to support it
@carthageclassiccars
Жыл бұрын
@@twmotox gotcha you got the one piece dynacorn setup with the rails, I am tracking now. Look at my video 2 cutting out the rust on a f-body car. I remove the rails in that one and show how I try and build the rear rail JIGs. In a little bit I will go ahead and install them. Also on the e body cars use the shackle mounts and pin holes as mounting points.

How much were you tweaking these metric chassis for dirt racing
@carthageclassiccars
9 ай бұрын
Its trial and error more going off bar angle in the back lower LR bar. Basically there was no magic inches on the chassis all 4 corners are on the jig with suspension in place and start with angle finders and moving certain points where you would get the certain measurements that has worked for my driving style. There would have to be a whole long drawn out video series on just that to actually explain my theories, most that come from lots of failures.
