I just started building my altar. I purchased a small secretary desk from the Marketplace, so it can close up and keep everything private. It has shelves underneath the main cabinet where I can hold books and tarot decks. So far, all of my pieces for my altar I have thrifted, which I felt was personal for me as thrifting is a big part of my life. I found an amazing handheld bell, a blue glass bottle to hold water, a ceramic bowl for salt, a handmade bowl for crushing herbs, two ceramic handmade chalices, a singing bowl, a painted small wooden container with drawers where I will store crystals and herbs, a small copper pot that will act as my cauldron, and a wooden pedestal bowl for offerings, plus some adorable containers and awesome candle holders. My next thrifting adventure will focus on finding incense holders and oil burners. Thank you for the video, it helps me feel better about building my piece-meal and repurposed altar, because it is what is special and unique to me. :)

Love it! I wish I could have a permanent altar but, unfortunately, my cats would destroy everything I put on it, so I ended up making a wooden box where I can keep all my implements and cloth and such inside where they are safe lol. It only takes a couple minutes to pull it out and set it up so that's a great option if you can't keep an altar out all the time for one reason or another, like judgmental family or mischievous cats.

I appreciate so much that you emphasize the fact that your practice is unique to you and whatever you are drawn to use, study, or place on your altar is right for you. One tip I wanted to share was that I desperately wanted a Cerridwen statue, but simply could not afford it. So I gave it some thought and came up with a crafty and inexpensive solution. I found a beautiful clear glass vase at the dollar store. I printed my favorite image of Cerridwen and then used inexpensive white glue to decoupage that image to the glass vase. Then I put a tealight candle inside and the light illuminated the image beautifully. The best part is it cost less than 5 dollars to make. One of my sacred spaces is a microwave stand with a little cupboard and three drawers, where I store all of my ingredients, candles, and other goodies. The top is half wood and half stone, making it the perfect surface to make bath salts, herb mixes, and prep my spellwork. My altar is currently on my very first desk, given to me when I was 12. It has four drawers that hold various things and is a good size. If I am to be honest, I have a dining room table that I am currently using as a desk but have often thought of using it as an altar. Perhaps in my next home.

I actually think there are many people like myself who do not perform the rituals on the altar, because the altar is made of wood and therefore not fire-safe. I use the altar in order to remind me of the things that are on it and remind me to do the rituals,.. And then I take whatever I need from the altar and use it on a different table on a fire-safe tablet. I like your taking into account different possibilities and circumstances that may vary from person to person 👍🙂

This is just the best video of being alter friendly. I’ve tried 3 different set ups in 3 years and I needed it to be a bit on the lighter side. I do set and read my witchy related books at my alter and I do meditation there along with chanting my mantras which I’m new to. It is quite small but it’s the best set up now for me the 72 year old crone. Thank you for this video🥰💕🌟

Another thing about boxes, While I don't condone smoking, cigar boxes make for excellent little containers of witchy items. I knew friends who also used them for DnD purposes. They can be expensive if you buy them online, but if you know someone that smokes a lot of cigars, or if you feel like dumpster diving behind a cigar shop (check your local laws on dumpster diving), you can get large amounts for free.

I have just found your channel and am really enjoying your vids. I am at the beginning of my witchy journey (Im 66) and your advice and guidance is very helpful. Ive enjoyed seeing your altar. I dont have much space so I have some shelves on top of a dresser. I have an ancestor altar on one shelf and my altar on another shelf. I consider myself to be a Buddhist Witch as Ive been into Buddhism for years so I have a Buddha statue on my altar. I am currently researching the different goddesses to see which one I am drawn to. Your idea of a picture is a good. I am considering having two goddesses as I have had a picture of Tara on my altar for years and would like a pagan deity to sit alingside her. The glass candles are in most grocery stores here in the US. They are not too expensive. Try online for shipping. When I was in school, we sold them as "band candles", so probably any thrift store or junk shop ( "jumble sales"?) would have them for next to nothing. Get creative with word search- garage sales or estate sales, maybe.

Nice to have a variety, so I grow mine. I have white, red, pink and now 'black' (darkest red). The best IMO are the fragrant ones, traditional English roses. Alternatively, for a relatively inexpensive all purpose option, you can buy 'herbal confetti' which includes roses, jasmine and lavender. Also can be used for tea, bathing, or whatever.
