It makes you wonder if, when reading this passage, Begg thinks to himself, “What a shame. What was John thinking? Get over it - you don’t have to agree with the wedding, but why wouldn’t John celebrate it with them and give them a kingly gift?”

This really hit home for me. I had a similar situation in March of 2018. My 21 year old daughter ( only child ) got pregnant and informed my husband and I that she was going to have an abortion. We could not support that decision as Christians and she was aware of that. We begged her to reconsider and offered help in every way we could. Financial help, help with placing the baby for adoption, offering to keep the baby for her, we offered help in every possible way except abortion. As Christians we could not take part in or participate in such a thing. The more we tried to steer her away from abortion, the angrier she got at us. She was so angry with us and accused us of judging her. She said that if we could not support her decision and give our blessing in this matter than she would have to let us go. She has not spoken to us since March of 2018. We have tried many times to contact her, but she refuses to speak to us. As Christians we sometimes have to make a choice between God or someone we Love very much and it is extremely painful. But we are not to participate, support or partake in these things. Jesus said that anyone who loves the members of ones family more than him is not worthy of him and sometimes we are faced with that choice.

You did the only right thing that could be done. She now has a rap sheet with fornication, disobedience to parents, murder, anger, bitterness, unforgiveness and who knows what else in God’s full knowledge. Your attitude toward her sounds like a godly attitude, so if she ever truly repents of all her sins perhaps you can restore her in love. Unfortunately we are living in “that” generation spoken of in scripture. God be with you.

There is no logic to figure out. It's quit simply caving into the worldly demands of tolerance and celebration of sinful activity. Again, notice that all of the Scriptures he used were cited out of context and/or said the opposite of what he was trying to make it say. The Prodigal Son is a story of accepting a REPENTANT SINNER... The Father didn't attend his son during the days of wild living when he squandered his inheritance. Likewise, the Pharisees had no interest in the word of God, only worldly traditions, but here we are saying that Begg needs to return to God's word, which calls sinners to repentance and trust in him. An LGBTQ "wedding" is the opposite of God's word and shows only defiance of it.

The bible clearly says that homosexuality is a sin and an abomination and that those who practice homosexuality will not inherit the kingdom of God unless they repent and turn away from this specific sin. I myself struggle with homosexual feelings but I have turned away from that lifestyle also my niece before she died was a lesbian but repented before she died and I now believe she's in heaven. For anyone struggling with same-sex attraction trust me I know that feeling but your feelings don't define who you are as even your feelings are tainted by sin but you must trust the word of God where God will find a way to deliver you from any temptation that may stirr you away from Him and one can be your struggle with same-sex attraction. Just remember that living a homosexual or lesbian lifestyle is not worth spending an eternity in hell because you find pleasure in homosexual sex or just by having a fun homosexual relationship.

Marriage licenses are a bit off topic, but if you must know. From my knowledge on the topic, the very first marriage licenses were issued in the U.S. after the civil war in order to prevent blacks and whites from intermarrying based on the democrats idea of segregation. Before this, a marriage license wasn’t required. A couple only had to register in some areas after the marriage had already taken place. You might want to double check what I said. It’s been over a decade since I looked into this.

They claimed to have an oral law supposedly given to Moses when Moses received the actual Law of God. They claimed that this oral law was passed down to them unwritten so that the gentiles wouldn’t have it. The fake Oral Law (the traditions of the elders) was the law Jesus was pushing back on, not the true law, He came to fulfill it. I also have a granddaughter who is about to do the same, and it breaks my heart to hurt her by declining to be there. What’s more, Alistair might just have twisted scripture. For the Parable of the Prodigal Son points out that the sinning younger brother, realized he was unworthy of forgiveness, and yet still preferred to go back to his father, hoping for any modicum of mercy, even to the point of giving himself into slavery to his father, with no expectation of reward. Those who engage in gay unions and indeed all other manner of sin, are to see themselves as the younger brother, the prodigal son. While it doesn’t discount the unforgiving nature of the older brother, the parable does not warrant us embracing and encouraging sinners as they willfully engage in sin.

I attended Parkside for many years. I feel as though during his “defense” or “rebuttal” sermon, he was directly attacking me. Calling me a pharisee and a hypocrite. I lived under his teaching and excellent biblical expository preaching for many years while growing up in the church. I have since moved and hour south and attend a different church as of several years ago. However, I still listened to him and Truth For Life a lot. Having said all of that, I vehemently disagree with his reasoning and what he had to say both in his advice he gives to the grandmother and to his rebuttal/ response sermon. It seems to me that he cared so much for the human relationship between the grandmother and her granddaughter that he would rather save and mend the human relationship, potentially, at the expense of the heavenly one. If sharing the gospel with your family and friends ruins the relationship between your family and friends because of their extreme protest and their hard heartedness and their refusal to accept you and that you believe in the gospel, then so be it. We are to love these people that are far from God. We are to love them in supporting their needs to get rid of the sin that they are living in. We are to tell them about Jesus and about the gospel. We dont turn them away, or cast them off the cliff or take the Jonah approach to Nineveh, or tell them they cant come to church. We love them! Take them in and help them overcome the sin in their life with Gods grace, supernatural power and through prayer. We dont go to events celebrating them and the sinful choices they make. Our job is to love God and tell others about Jesus. Not to love God and make sure we have good human relationships at all costs. Which is why Paul wrote “if possible as far as it depends in you, strive to live at peace with everyone” and not “be sure to live at peace with everyone at all costs even if it means compromising on your beliefs and what the bible has to say… We don’t compromise and water down the bible to make it more palatable to people. The bible is what it is. The inerrant word of God just as applicable in Jesus’ day as it is in ours. And if we alter it to present it as this milk-toast “all are welcome no matter what you believe and no matter what lifestyle you live” you are a heretic. Im not calling Alistair a heretic, please don’t misunderstand me. To be clear, all are welcome to come to church. All are welcome to believe. But becoming a bible-believing Christ follower comes with big life changes. You cannot continue to live in a sinful unrepentant lifestyle as you did before. When you become and Christian, the Holy Spirit comes into your heart and changes you. The old is gone and the new has come. There is an outward expression of an inward change. You cannot live in an unrepentant sinful lifestyle as you did before. I digress. We are to love God and tell others about Jesus. If telling others about the gospel and about Jesus and about His grace and love and truth ruins a human relationship, then so be it. That doesn’t mean you stop praying for them or stop telling them about Jesus. But, if they want nothing to do with you and hate you for your faith and dont want to talk to you, then, as far as it was up to you, you tried to live at peace with them. Then you shake the dust off your sandals and move on continuing to pray for them. My point is, if in not attending the wedding the grandmother ruined her relationship with her grandson because she stuck to her faith and her convictions and didn’t compromise on her faith and what the Bible teaches, then so be it. In my opinion, if Alistair wants to point the gun of hypocrisy at me then it makes sense to me that it would be far more hypocritical to espouse such beliefs and then attend the wedding anyway… So while I dont think people should leave Parkside on mass, thats a decision for each person to make. Alistair has faithfully served and preached for over 40 years! I dont think he is “for gay marriage” and I dont think he has an “affirming” mindset. And while I absolutely disagree with his advice and felt attacked and judged by him during his response, I think this is just a red flag. If his preaching starts to have these themes more often, then I think it would be wise to leave and go somewhere else.

Good job! I know many good Christians who did their best to maintain relationships with homosexual children who did not compromise. Usually when they had to draw a line, the sinner was the one who defaulted on the relationship. How must they feel now when they are told that drawing the line was the wrong thing to do? So sad for Alister to create confusion!!!

God's word prophesied that we'd once again be able to distinguish between one who serves God and one who does NOT. (Ephesians 5, v. 11), "And have NO fellowship with the unfruitful WORKS of darkness, but rather REPROVE them."

Colin is absolutely correct. In order to follow the teachings of Jesus - by the Bible, sometimes we must break away from those who will not Repent, and stand alone. Does anyone in the Faith think Satan will never try to destroy ministers or the Gospel? I cite, unfortunately, the tragic fall of Luis Palau..

Colin... A "wedding" is not a celebration of a union between, "2 people", it's a union before God between 1 MAN AND 1 WOMAN... Words Matter!!! Its not just the parables he uses but the words that show his motive... "Contaminated"??? That is an emotional manipulation that comes directly from the "community". This is how they put you on the defensive... I guess Alistair hadn't heard Sinclair Ferguson's response to his "advice". For me, this goes way deeper than him just giving "advice". After giving that advice, he contemplated it and decided to include it in a book about "Christianity". And after writing it in the book, he contemplated again, and decided to tell the world about his "advice" using it as a selling point for the book... We are not talking about advice given in private that came out later. This whole situation was a long time plan for the outcome of his book... This has been going on in his soul for a long time for him to be brave enough to not just say it, but write about it, brag about it to sell his book and arrogantly say he has nothing to repent of. And his comment of "work out your own salvation with fear and trembling", was "Pilot" washing his hands after handing Jesus over...

If we observe, the Father in the prodigal son story didn't chase after the younger son. The Father waited for the younger son to see the error of his ways and find his way back home and then the Father celebrated the youngers son's redemption.

Excellent breakdown & analysis my Scripture loving Brother ! Beggs horrendously off the mark Scripture passages he SAYS apply but don't, his condescending "Anglosphere" theologically uppity attitude & calling anyone holding to Scriptural norms a Pharisee, taken together all BEG (pun intended) the question: Why, exactly, won't he admit he blew it ? Does somebody have something on him ? He owes favors ? Ya got me ! This goes beyond rationality and cannot be understood by the part of the Iceberg that is visible.

It’s not about his own thinking… it’s about The Word of God so he is already starting wrong. The pastor was more concerned about the grandmother’s relationship with her confused grandson when he should have been more concerned with the way God sees the situation. The pastor’s of today are going to be judged for leading people straight to eternal destruction. Their blood is on his hands for not telling them the truth of what God’s Word says concerning their relationship. The grandma knows it’s wrong and that is why she went to the pastor. God will judge the pastor for supporting this abomination and for placing emotional pressure above the word of God. As The Body of Christ… Jesus Christ is our final authority. What He says is law. You can never justify sin so If God says it’s an abomination well then…it’s an abomination. He can not twist the scripture to justify his WRONG decision as a pastor.

Hey, this mind virus that we are seeing everywhere including some of our own family members is very powerful and highly contagious. Praying and voting correctly is the only possible cure. I only have time to protect and immune my own immediate children right now. As many of you know that is a full time job. AB perhaps has the fever!

Sin Sick cowardly preachers leading people in the wrong direction. It’s happening everywhere. Real Christians of all creeds and colors are about to find out that we are now the minorities in America . Satan’s people have even started after school clubs in Cordova Tennessee. Pray for Sin sick minds to be renewed by the power of The Holy Spirit and by all means watch your children.

These parables would make sense in this context if the gay son had repented and came back to Christ. But to "Celebrate" his "wedding" would mean the woman in the parable celebrated losing the coin, or the father celebrated the prodigal LEAVING
