Lyrics :
Tell you little story and it won't take long
'Bout a lazy farmer who wouldn't hoe his corn
The reason why I never could tell
But that young man was always well.
He planted his corn in the month of June
By July it was up to his eyes
Come September came a big frost
And all the young man's corn was lost.
His courtship had just begun
Said, "Young man, have you hoed some corn?"
"Well, I tried and I tried and I tried in vain
But I don't believe I raised one grain."
He went downtown to his neighbor's door
He had often been before
Said, "Pretty little miss, will you marry me?
Little miss what do you say?"
"Why do you come for me to wed?
Can't even make your own corn grain.
Single I am and will remain;
A lazy man I won't maintain."
He turned his back and walked away
Sayin', "Little miss you rue the day.
You'll rue the day that you were born
For givin' me the devil cause I wouldn't hoe corn."

Watching this video with really good headphones is a transcendent experience
As a swede I think this is the best Blue Grass there is. Its the same grass/corn that my ancestors tried to gather in before the frost came, the same grass that feed the cows, the same grass that made us children go to school, the same grass that made us become academic people. Yes, we always will be aware of our roots! And we send a loving thought to all the ones that have gone before us.

On my local Television channel, I watch Live Bluegrass every Saturday night. I think it's called "Song of the Mountains." They get some really great bands on there. Great musicians by themselves, and when put together, magic.

A father fogure to me died today. He was an alcoholic, a war veteran, and a bad father. He was my best friends dad. But he helped make me who i am. And this was a song he showed me. Rip Curt. You took the long dive and it was your fault, but i still miss you you bitter old man.

Sorry for your loss
This is my favorite version/recording of this song. It’s on pretty much every playlist I’ve created over the years because it’s also one of my favorite songs ever. Dan’s voice - there aren’t enough superlatives in the world to describe it. Perfect representation of bluegrass. I recommend this to everyone I share music with.
2024 this is still some of the best music out there! .. absolutely love it.. so much feel
I have never heared souch a awsome cooperated instrumental interplay ever... I have listent to RocknRoll, metal, Balkan, but this bluegrass marble is ene song i can listen to all night drunk.... The mix of instrumens is susch a coordinated way..... It is marwoules
Out standing performance by Dan Tymiski. I live in the very deep south, in farm country...I have cotton harvesters right outside my door...peanuts harvest takes those machines 3 times up and down the rows to get ready to sell to processors, but the young drivers, with headphones on listening to music and sipping on a cold drink, get it done pretty dang fast. Cotton and peanuts are rotated. Our elders are one by one, heading to heaven, but not before telling the stories of plowing with a cow, hand picking cotton (as my own Father did), riding a horse to town. I asked a 90 yr old friend of mine, on a scorching hot, humid day, "what did y'all do before air conditioning?" He replied 'suffered!'' He also said that the 2 best days of his life were... 1. The day they got a tractor, and 2. The day they got air conditioning!
SHIVERS!!! 👑😎💯
So beautiful!!! That banjo rings like a bell!! The singing, the dobro, the fiddle, and the banjo are all superlative sounding!
Listen to the guy on that banjo, it's out of control!
Song with actual morality.
By far....my favorite song Dan sings !!!!!!!!!

This is great! I wish there was more stuff like that in the mainstream media.
Masterpiece 🙏
This violin fiddle. Best i’ve heard.
June 2024 ❤
Listen to the soundtrack of O' Brother Where Art Thou. That soundtrack revived in me that I was taking for granted it. I've attended The Philadelphia Folk Festival since 1985. Ralph Stanley and The Clinch Mountains Boys, Natalie McMaster, Eileen Ivers, Mike Cross, and even Old Crow Medicine Show... And so many other legendary acts. This music is timeless

This is what all Bluegrass should sound like…..it would be way more popular if it did!!
Love how Allison Krauss taps her feet. A cute little country stomp. I adore this music and these musicians. Also need to watch the KZread video of Jerry Douglass' composition We Hide and Seek. It'll blow your mind.
Powerful songwriting and absolute instrumentation, one of my favorites
Timeless . They just don't do it this way anymore. Feel sorry for this generation and what passes for music .

I just love that Little Miss😂
Tremendous.
Soooo good
We need to get our work Ethic back. This song was registered in 1933, four long years into the great depression. Anyone who didn't have a work ethic during those time was rejected as lazy trash.

What an amazing song, and such powerful emphasis from Dan and Jerry! It's one of my favorites, and it gets my blood going every time I hear it! Thank you guys for belting this one out there-it really makes me feel it to my bones! Of course, the accompaniment doesn't hurt it one bit either ; )~~!!! Thanks to the rest of the group-just great music delivered so expertly, it hurts a little! But it's so special, and I hope others hear it too.
Yes you youngsters out there, there was a time when a bunch of mighty fine musicians made real music without eletronic equipment and ear plugs, without fancy shows and dancing...Pure fine music.

I'd say it's one of those songs that separates people according to quality - if you don't like this song, there must be something wrong with you :) I mean - bluegrass genre may not be the first choice for everyone, but musically, lyrically and composition-wise, this song is a killer, regardless of the preferences!
