    Great review as always David. Glad they slimmed down the depth of the M16, the old one had a ridiculous footprint. Really disappointed by the screen options too, my old M15 had a beautiful 4K oled panel. These days I have a Legion 7i as my main driver for work and a bit of gaming and for portability I went with an Acer Predator 14. It has a 4070 and mini led panel, it’s a really decent machine for the price and often overlooked in the 14” segment.

    Thanks for your review ✨. I'm quite lost. I bought an R1 and Dell cancelled my order and without even asking ordered for me the R2. I saw different specs in everything, just not the change from an intel i7 to the ultra 25w, as well the battery, the wifi, the drive. I do not know to much about computers but I have the feeling that is a lower quality from the one I purchased from the beginning and I am thinking to cancel and get a legion 5i with an i9. Does it sound coherent?

    Totally agree, this laptop was better than I was expected but mostly because what I expect from Dell is very little these days. The only laptop I truly like from Alienware atm is the m18 but that could still do with a brighter screen option! And why did they never make an x18? The glory days of m17 and area 51m are over sadly :(

    Not sure I understand what Dell/Alienware is up to these days. Maybe a void in leadership since Frank Azor left? The x15/x17 were amazing. My wife uses her x15 daily, never misses a beat. Beautiful laptop. These successors being two-tone are ugly, in my opinion, but you couple that with the competitors offering better screens, speakers and performance? Hard to justify the Alienware tax, especially with widespread reports of their support going down hill (taking with a grain of salt admittedly). The Asus G16 and Lenovo 7i Gen 9 are looking to be a far better option. Are you planning on reviewing either of those? The Lenovo 7i looks especially appealing. Shout out to you, David, though. You always have great reviews and are my go to, along with Just Josh and Jarrod's Tech (still miss Bob, but he's doing great things at Eluktronics). Best wishes to you and thanks for great content, as always!

    Frank Azor works at AMD for marketing amd advantage laptops and adrenalin driver. Dell has launched AW m18 R9 7945HX, RX 7900M 16GB with 480Hz display. But dell didn't enable that laptop to work with amd drivers. Instead dell adapted the amd drivers and with that they lost a lot of features and access to adrenaline software. The result is a dell OEM driver that has not been updated since Q4 2023. AW m18 amd advantage edition can work on original amd drivers but without a 480Hz screen because the amd driver does not recognize it. More precisely, it works on an external screen without any problems. With the original amd driver, all the functions in the adrenalin software are available and they update it often so that the latest games can be played on them. On the amd website, in the driver release notes, it says that it supports the RX 7900M🤪.

I really like the form factor and build quality. The panel is good for my use and seems bright and balanced. The issue I see here is that the M-series was always meant to be like this, and was like this until the R5's. Back then however, for the first 4 revisions they also had the Area 51M, which was the polar opposite; a thick system meant to cater to those who want maximum performance. In my opinion, since they're converting the M-series back to it's routes, the X-series should be converted into a more Area 51M-like focused system, not as thick and heavy, but similar in the sense that both the "X16" and perhaps an "X18" can imitate the M16 R1 and M18 R1, just with a more premium design and redesigned thermal capabilities.

    You liked this a lot more than I would but like you said it’s for a different audience. I never personally felt hindered with bringing my x16 around. ESP since it’s one of the nicest looking laptops ever created. Of course it was a lot thinner than the m16 r1 even tho it’s the same size. Fan noise would nag me with this one. Atleast with the x16 you were getting really good gaming performance at 43db. Also I found the fans didn’t activate often in quiet mode with the x16r1. Atleast for the games I play! Glad you reviewed regardless though.

    @@MashITTech Yeah judging from the X16R2 data sheet I'm not surprised you are let down! Apart from the new intel processor its the same as the R1! Such a disappointment to one of the best laptops of 2023. An Oled screen/lunar white all over and even more improvements to performance/fan noise ratio could have made it the best laptop of all time in my eyes. The R1 is still my favorite though but they could have made it better. I'm curious how the X16R2 fairs in the fan news to performance ratio like the R1 M16 and X16 did. I know the M16R2 wasn't that great in that regard but that's a completely different machine compared to the X16 R1 and R2 and M16 R1. I'm really not surprised the M16 R2 is loud actually. I mean look at the size difference compared to the R1 M16. Something has to give. To me though it's both a sacrifice in both design and performance lol. I was almost offended when I first saw it lol.

    Hi, david. Huge fan of yours from Nigeria. I see no reason why the stealth mode function shouldn't avaible on the X series laptops. I mean...it being the most conspicuous between both laptops in terms of RGB (the stadium lighting on the back grill and the lit track pad). I own an X16 R1 and i wish i had the stealth mode function to just turn on in a flash in a quiet place (or when its getting too much attention lol) . It should be available on the X-series too. This can be done with an update or something...it would be cool😊. I shouldnt have to go to through the confusing Alien FX lighting setting at the ACC every time for that.

    It has excellent value in the UK, although it now targets a different demographic than previous versions. Dell is going through a bad period, and they must try something different. This looks like a positive change for the right demographic. There are negatives, but this is omnipresent even in laptops that are twice the price. If they are not deal-breakers, this must be on anyone's shortlist for portable gaming machines.

    Weirdly, by aiming low, Dell has managed to deliver a lot on its promises of portability+gaming in a single package. But the display is still a bit of a sore point, seeing that the ASUS ROG Zephyrus G16 has a thinner and more compact form factor, and yet carries a full OLED display. Also, the weight saving perk is not a good enough excuse to skimp on a mechanical keyboard. The Alienware x16 was lighter, and yet carried a full mechanical keyboard. The thing is, Alienware had a major differentiating factor with their mechanical keyboards amongst the crowd of ASUS ROG and Razer laptops, so they should have retained it at least as an option. The weirdest part in India is the fact that Dell got the pricing right here, especially in terms of competition. The Razer Blade 16 doesn't exist in India, the ASUS ROG Zephyrus G16 and Strix Scar 16 are both overpriced and rarely available in Indian retailers, and Acer is practically the only real competition here, so this one is practically a reasonable bet in the Indian markets.

    I'd say, a missed opportunity laptop, such a bummer... Screen being 300nits and only qhd which is somewhat fine i guess. Plastic trackpad is also a miss imo. And no mechanical keyboard on a gaming laptop seems abit too much buut i guess it might be fine similar to the qhd screen

    87 degrees on balanced and 85 on performance ? I can already smell a cpu throttle due to temperature . After 6 months of usage with the degradation of thermal paste , 92 degrees should be a given . Whats the point of buying extra costly laptops where their design undermines their performance and make them similar to lower tier laptops ?

    @@MashITTech that is why i am frustrated. Time passes , gpus and cpus evolves and we are getting closer to consider 90 degrees as normal. In my intel 3060 laptop i have to sometimes disable the cpu turbo as the games play better on a 2.5 ghz cpu with 70 degrees than a 4.2 turbo cpu with 89 degrees. It is insane. Anything above 85 is a longtime killer of performance in a laptop.

    I have a laptop with a 500 nits and HDR1100 nits display, but I realized that 300 nits is actually enough. I find that too much brightness is hard on my eyes and tiring. Personally, I think 300 nits is fine for a gaming laptop.

  • @MashITTech

    @MashITTech

    3 ай бұрын

    sadly, I have to disagree on this one. 300 was the norm for years and I can get by with 300 nits. but some of the offices I visit and some of the rooms in my house are really bright and even a 400 nit screen is a struggle. If I am in a controlled light room it's more than fine but not everybody is sadly. Having 500+ nits and not needing it so turning brightness down is better than having a screen not bright enough at the max. Hope this makes sense, as I am not trying to come across as argumentative
