    9:15 "What are they laughing about? Were they not expecting her to be able to do it?" They're impressed. Military people often think of private citizens as soft and weak. And they're somewhat correct. I know ai am. I've been around military people for much of life but I never was, and most of them are tougher and stronger than I ever was. So when a civilian walks up and says "I want to help you military people" they don't expect much. When that civilian impresses them, they're likely to be a little surprised about that. She surprised them. They're impressed. In a good way.

    Even in civilian life, there aren't many people who are experienced with operating big machinery, moving heavy and dangerous loads. In my experience quite a percentage of them are afraid to try for fear of damage and especially injury which is always a possibility. Plus the people running the show lack trust in rookies for the same reason, and are slow to grant that access and training to noobs. Nobody wants to be responsible for people getting accidentally crushed. That said, after demonstrating experience they're quite happy to have someone who's good at it without having to worry too much.

So many great, even touching scenes, like that deep-need relationship between Newt and Ripley, and the understated Ripley-Hicks "love" (sparkage !) story, the heroic redemption of Lt.Gorman when he and Vasquez sacrifice themselves in the tunnel, Hudson's comical whining, even Burkes villainy, all the characters are so well done ! And Ripley vs the Mother Alien in the powerlifter was such a thrilling finale ! In the late 90s I got to go behind the scenes of the now sadly closed ‘Alien War’ attraction at Londons Trocadero Centre. They had a load of amazing props; including Dietrich’s armour, several smart guns & flamethrowers from the production. Also there were two art deco dog sculptures, which had featured in a deleted scene in Alien 3. Fun facts: When they went to Acton Power station in West London to film Tim Burtons Batman, the sets of the Alien hive were still there. For a long time, the Alien Queen was the single largest puppet ever created for a film. There’s also a deleted scene which shows what happened to Burke. Carrie Henn (Newt) is now a school teacher, but is still very much involved with Aliens. During the filming of the escape through the air ducts, Carrie Henn repeatedly messed up her lines, so that she could slide down the chute. Also, when they were filming the sequence of her in the water, she spend a lot of time just hanging out with the performer who was playing the Alien. According to Henn they just say their dangling their feet into the water & chatting; I just picture Newt & her Xenomorph friend hanging out 😂 Al Matthews (Apone) was a Vietnam Vet & took a great deal of pleasure in coming up with drills for the cast to go through in order to help add some realism to their portrayal of the Marines. Please, please ignore those who say otherwise & make sure you round off the trilogy by watching the Assembly Cut of Alien 3. Alien 3 was David Fincher (Seven, Social Network etc) directorial debut & is what I consider to be a failed masterpiece. It has been disowned by its director & was the product of too much interference by the studio. Even to this day, is remains a film that splits opinion amongst fans of the series. Visually, it’s absolutely stunning & although the script isn’t perfect, it does serve a purpose in Ripley’s story arc. The Assemby Cut fixes multiple issues from the theatrical cut & also reintroduces several scenes. It is now my preferred version of the film; & without giving anything away, I do prefer part of the theatrical cuts ending. It was also the last film that the legendary Jordan Cronenweth (Blade Runner) would serve; albeit briefly as Director Of Photography on. Cronenweth left the production just after filming began due to his deteriorating health relating to Parkinson’s Disease.

    Its good to see 3 getting the love it deserves. The extended cut is a far better film than many realise or are willing to admit.....some people equate not liking a film with it being a bad film. And 3 is definitely disliked because of how it alters Aliens. I'd add that, technically, Resurrection is a beautiful looking movie, whatever the argument people have over it, I dont think it can be denied its a gorgeous film. Personally, i like Resurrection , but im a massive fan of the director, so I'm probably biased!

    @@Sandy-dd4le i completely agree with you about Alien 3. However, the events that occur at the start of the film are for a reason & whether people like them or not, it’s for a particular purpose. Alien 3 visually is absolutely stunning; gone are the pristine whites of the Nostromo crew quarters & the blue filtered light of Aliens….& in come the drab browns & greens that help add to the entire dystopian vibe of the film. My only gripe with the Assembly Cut is I’d have kept the birth of something the same as the theatrical cut (& I don’t mean the awesome Ox burster). I saw Resurrection in the theatre when it released & personally I find it a bit jarring compared to the rest of the series. It has some great moments, but overall to cartoon like in some of its action.

    @@davidanderson1639 Personally I like the events at the start of 3, i mean, what were people really expecting. It seems to me most people wanted Alien 3 to be a sort of Little House On The Prairie episode, or a step up in scale again from Aliens and keeping it a military style movie. I don't think either of those would have worked. I love it's a return to a confined space with limited weapons, much like the first film. Most of the performances are excellent, Charles Dance in particular . And it brings Ripley's character arc to its logical conclusion, seems absolutely bizarre for reactors to invest time into the first two film's but ignore the end, but I guess that's just me, you and a handful of others. I get what you're saying about Resurrection being somewhat cartoony, it's probably a big part of why a lot of people dislike it, but I think thats part of its charm. I like that it looks like a dream, the weird colour palette, that the blacks are super saturated to the point they seem like fuligin or vanta black. I find it a gorgeous looking film, probably one of Jeunet's visual masterpieces. Sure it has its problems, just as 3 does, but I dont think either are bad films, just not what the majority of franchise fans wanted.

    @@Sandy-dd4le Those who do bad mouth Alien 3, were without a doubt expecting as you say something akin to Little House on The Prairie; our three survivors metaphorically skipping off into the sunset to rebuild a new life with their broken ‘artificial person’. Despite the endless rewrites & changes; because let’s be honest Vincent Wards original treatment, as awesome as it would’ve looked insane (like, how would you get all that wood into space) Fincher delivered an absolute masterpiece of a directorial debut. The cast were excellent; a nice mix of established actors like Brian Glover, Charles Dance, Pete Postlethwaite Ralph Brown, along with some new faces. It makes no sense for reactors to avoid Alien 3, just because a couple thousand keyboard warriors don’t like what they saw; & to be honestly they’ve probably only ever seen the theatrical cut. I’m glad that there are fans like yourself & I out there, who can actually see just how good Alien 3 really is & is a valid, logical conclusion to Ripley’s story arc. Jeunet created an very stylish piece of cinema; sci-fi with typical French flare. I just feel the cast were let down by a script that wasn’t as well crafted as it could’ve been & also seeing characters killed off so soon (the awesome Micheal Wincott being one) didn’t sit well with me….I’d have like to see his character’s interactions with Ripley. I’m glad that Neil Blomkamp’s fifth Alien film didn’t get made. There’s too much of a trend at the moment to retcon storylines, just in order to appease the fans. Having the events of Alien 3 turn out to be a bad dream is a total cop out. But then again, it could’ve been worse, we could’ve Alien 3 the way William Gibson envisaged it!!

  • @Sandy-dd4le

    @Sandy-dd4le

    11 ай бұрын

    @@davidanderson1639 it amuses me somewhat that the Little House On The Prairie scenario doesn't even work within the logic of the film world......the company would demand Bishop returned, Hicks signed up to the Marines for life, they would expect him back before he was even healed, and Newt would have relatives on Earth. The William Gibson script used to be freely available online, I have no idea if it still is. As I remember, it changed the Alien life cycle, gave them super powers and did away with Ripley in some way I can't remember. I think the only upside it has would be the setup for the showdown on the Alien homeworld at the end. As for the other writers and scripts, there's so many I get confused. The one with the wooden world and the mirrors always sounded pretty good to me....i guess you could get round the wood by saying it was on the planet, iirc, there's some bad cgi vegetation around in Alien 3.

They didn't show what happened. But her reaction and the fact that she isn't even moving despite the incredible danger means that's more than just an acid burn. Knowing that a few drops of this acid can dissolve a metal floor, the amount of acid that sprayed on her leg is way more. I'm sure it ate right through her leg and her foot is gone. 9:20 Correct. They did not expect her to do it. Ripley is not working class. She's a former flight officer. She only learned to operate the power loader because the company revoked her license, and she could only get a job at the loading docks. Burke mentions this at her apartment. Ferro calls her "Snow White." And this is how the fight at the end of the movie is set up, all the way back at the inquest.

    This is maybe the only time, I like the theatrical version to the extended cut. In the theatrical version, you never see Hadley's Hope before the Marines discover it. It's a very dramatic effect, you're left to wonder what it looked like before, and what happened. Excellent reaction!

    To me it's an action movie and one of the best! Every actor played thier roles so good the tough sarge, the whiny hudson, the shady company man burke, the unwilling leader in hicks, the take charge Ripley, the inexperienced LT. gorman, The hardened vasquez. The special effects felt so real compared to today's CGI which feels so fake, The dialoge was so good! real and authentic "we're fucked man" "get it together hudson becuase I'm tired of your shit" lol. Your reactions were so funny, as a 10 yr old I stayed up to watch this by myself and loved every minute of it ,its a fun ride. Take note modern movie makers. This is how you create an iconic badass female character. It's not about making them infallible Mary Sue's, Ripley has her flaws, and it's ultimately what drives her to find some closure to her nightmarish torment. Today's movies obsess with making women appear as physically strong as a man and having equal, if not superior, fighting prowess. It's as if they can't conceptualize another way of being strong, so they resort to dumbest, most literal version of the word. But there's many types of strength and Ripley exudes that in spades, she's willing to take charge and be thrust into a leadership role when the situation calls for it, and she's obviously very brave going inside the alien horde alone to rescue Newt, but she's also willing to take input from those around her and even *gasp* learn a new skill from a man when Hicks shows her how to use the pulse rifle. That scene wouldn't exist in a movie made today and the dialogue would've been written in such a way that Ripley would be dismissive or insulting to her male counterparts. As if being a rude asshole exudes "strength". Modern film maker need to stop taking the worst of male characteristics and putting them on female characters. It makes them uninteresting and loathsome. Ripley on the other hand is universally praised.

If you want to think that Ripley, Newt and maybe Hicks became a family and live a happy life than don't look it, but if you want to know how the story ends and if there is a happy end for them then look Alien 3 and i hope also all other movies, Alien 4, Prometheus and Covenant. I think if you want to know if you like a movie or not you always have to look it for yourself, whatever other people say. I like the 3rd part and i hope you look it!

    Cameron does the best sequels! Aliens and Terminator 2! This movie gives u a secret future vibe in all movies afterwards. Never trust anymore who drinks milk!! The knife scene was real but Bill Paxton wasn't aware he was going to be part of it! This, Bladerunner, alien and The Thing. Bladerunner also by Scott. This and the others prove, special effects practical effects , sets, models and robotics are far superior to CGI! Also lots of tie-in here. In Prometheus the prequel to all, a race of beings called Engineers. They created humans Aliens and supposedly Predators and gave humans the technology for Replicants and Terminators! Dallas, on his resume worked for Tyrell Corp 😮😮😮(Bladerunner) Weyland Corp did industrial and flight operations for Tyrell Corp and Cyberdyne Systems. (Bladerunner and Terminator) Cyberdyne Systems did tech work for Tyrell Corp and Weyland Corp! There's even a tie-in with another movie character, Kurt Russell in, Soldier! He is a genetically enhanced natural born human, who has to go up against artificially created humans, as in Replicants! Cameron does the best sequels! Aliens and Terminator 2. There's several Alien movies, and Alien vs Predator, and all are good! He likes to reuse actors over and over. Bill Paxton is hicks, also in Titanic and first guy killed in Terminator! Reese in this, Terminator 2, the Abyss. Mexican chica in this and Terminator 2. Bishop in this, 3, and Terminator.

    This and the first are arguably the best for different reasons. If you want a happy conclusion it's best to end with this film. There have been rumors of X-ing all sequels after 2, and having a more proper fallow up "years later". But so far non of them have been fallowed up on. If anything your best bet for a proper fallow up that's out there is the video game Alien: Isolation were we fallow the adventures of Ripley's biological daughter as she tries to unearth what happened in the first film, and ends up in her own race to save her life from a space station gone berserk.

    @@ambybambiboo Ya, 3 will have you screaming "WHY" at the screen about 10 minutes in (studio mandates ruined that film). And 4 just goes even more weird. The AvP (Alien Vs Predator) movies happen time line wise, decades, if not centuries before the Alien films, both happening around 2004-2011 modern day earth, and all Predator movies so far have been modern day earth ones, and if I recall correctly, the Predators might be time travelers due to a trophy given to Danny Glover at the end of Predator 2. If anything, fallow up with Predator, Predator 2, the two AvP movies, and then Predators, I have yet to watch The Predator, or Prey as of yet.

    I find it slightly silly that someone has to have lost a child to have a strong sense of maternal/paternal feelings towards a child like Newt. It wasn't in the theatric version because it wasn't essential to the story. It however doesn't effect the movie negatively. The negative parts of the extended version are mainly the scenes showing what happened to the colonist, which acts as a spoiler. First time viewers should see the theatrical.
