I liked the moment in Alien 3 where Ripley expresses: "Then, we're fucked" in front of Andrews and he replies "No, you're _fucked_ " If a bit of Hudson's fatalistic character carried over from one film to the other because of her dire mood, that was the moment. When you watched that movie long ago in 1993, it was still filled with the ghosts of the previous film's characters. Ripley's grief all through the film because they are not there for her is, err 'palpable'. ... at this point I'd like to just add it was Weaver's executive decision, as a producer on the film, to focus on 'Ripley's story' (namely Vincent Ward's script) rather than going forward with other scripts like William Gibson's. Cameron most certainly knows this at those reunions where they inevitably end up sitting next to each other : ) His digs at Fincher are cheap and he knows it. I still think Ward's was the best _idea_ and they managed it _just_ somehow somewhere. A warped science fiction version of a 'Snow White' tale.

The black goo will be a marginal presence in this movie, I think. As for Ian Holm's AI, may I ask why it irks you? It's not incongruent with the overarching mythos, since Ash was transmitting data from the Nostromo all the time unbeknownst to the crew.. that data could have ended up into a big pot that was later running the space station in "Alien: Romulus". Just my 2 cents!

I barely like it as an internet tool, so using it to paste Ian Holms on someone's face just because they wanted the actor from the first movie, should have just used a different character. It's sad to say it this way, but that ship has sailed a I dislike the idea of paying to support a movie that took that route. @@DarkSpotting Well, I think that Ellen Ripley is so tied with Sigourney Weaver, that nobody would have the balls to replace her in that role. However, if the premise and structure of the movie is similar to the original, I would consider it a soft reboot, because they're basically remaking the movie at this point. But at the end of the day, if the majority of fans want it to be a "return to roots", I hope it will turn out to be a competent movie in that regard, even if it turns out to be not what I personally would prefer. I hope they do come up with a competent sequel to Prometheus at some point, and not the crap we got with Covenant.

Alien 3 was a return to form. James Cameron had popped it off the rails and turned it into an amusement park ride. It was no longer a horror film; it was more akin to Jurassic Park. It was a feel good movie; that’s exactly why it’s so popular. His film entirely eschews desperation, isolation, and hopelessness. In a word: dread. The decision to destroy Hicks and Newt was bold for its time. Yet, in today’s horror landscape, it is ubiquitous to destroy major characters. To begin from a place of grief, which initiates an inherent and subsequent vulnerability. It alerts us that no one is safe and that every crew member on the Enterprise, must now wear a red shirt.

The first was a horror, the second a war, the third a thriller movie, the fourth... a comedy? All of them were good at what they were doing. Killing beloved characters is only okay when it happens suddenly, unexpectedly, and is important from story perspective (see the definition of TRAGEDY). Killing them off screen is a bad decision. But you're right about the vulnerability feeling, that's important. And no one can be saved for the eternity in real life, but one of the most important rules of writing is that written stories must be more logical than real life, otherwise readers (movie viewers) won't enjoy it. And this demands that you don't throw characters we rooted for in the previous movie in the trash bin just like that.

Lmao, the franchise doesn't need saving. It is still the best franchise in all of scifi. The most recent prequels truly made the franchise great again. This won't move the needle.

Well... it doesn't need saving from the fandom's perspective, I agree, but it has yielded dimishing returns over the years because fans aren't satisfied (at least that's my interpretation), so it needs a big success to justify further investments and more products responding to what fans need, not what directors and producers need... hope I made myself clear. Thanks for the comment!

Are you being sarcastic? Apart from the idiot and the eel things and a few other things, Prometheus wasn't bad. Covenant was ridiculous and predictable. And WTF was the stupid Christ as a chestburster all about, other than a rather stupid and ridiculous spelling out that David has a god complex - as if we didn't know. It was yet another wasted opportunity. Ridley Scott has a real talent for visuals but given the plot, characters and dialogue, it just seemed he wasn't really trying.

It's not all about the scares and gore, these movies end up scrapping very impressive special practical effects with crappy generated AI effects and crappy CGY computer generated images that look like garbage👎 🤣🤣🤣🤣

If I were to talk probabilities, I think given how Fede Alvarez is a household name in the genre by now, and how much buzz the trailer has generated, a complete failure is out of the question. I think mild success is more likely.. but I could be wrong, of course!

What is this guy talking about Romulus won't save the alien franchise has been on a downgrade since resurrection it's part of Ridley Scot's horrible Prometheus and covenant movies. I don't understand why people are exited about new smelly garbage. Also with a very small political agenda that is very noticeable to a smart sane persone. Long gone are the days of good story telling and engaging actors and likable characters, and non of the constant annoying weaponized gender political ideology. I guess people forgot what real good movies used to be back in the day or it's the new generation of younger people liking it. It's disheartening and not their folt now they grow up with leftist woke garbage movies from woke wood.👎👎🤣🤣🤣

Do you guys not realize the original Alien was always politically progressive? Alien subverts the audience of 1979's expectation by having Dallas, a character played by a more famous actor, die halfway through the movie to make way for Ripley, the final girl, to survive the Alien alongside her cat... Parker, a Black man, survived the Alien longer than any of the rest of the White male characters. Lambert was trans (this is something you can see in her staff bio in ALIENS). The whole design of the Nostromo, as well as the alien ship, is based on female sexual organs. " Dan O'Bannon specifically wrote this scene with the male's fear of penetration in mind and wanted the scene to operate as a payback of sorts for all of the times horror films have subjected weak women to male predatory monsters. His goal was to reverse the stigma associated with the sexualized violence against women in horror and turn the idea back on itself. It's no coincidence that the chestburster's birth involves a forceful invasion of male-bodied victims and concludes with a phallic entity being born out of a male's chest." screenrant.com/alien-movie-chestburster-sexual-assault-meaning/ If you can't deal with "gender political ideology," the Alien franchise probably isn't for you. It's always been a film series about gender.

Based on the trailer, Romulus does not look promising! The trailer has re-hashed scenarios and dialog and no adult characters, it may have a big budget but it looks like a cheesy teen flick. This will be a hard pass for most people who were around to see Alien in the theater. Sigourney Weaver was 28 when she did Alien, she looked and acted like an adult. Compare her to anyone in the trailer and tell me they don't look like her kid brother/sister! It doesn't matter what their chronological age is, this cast looks, talks and acts like teenagers! And "Wa'er" is not a word! Imagine John Hurt or Ian Holm not bothering to properly pronounce their dialog? I suppose the Brit actor who is t-glottalizing thinks he is "keeping it real", yea, real for his peers who haven't yet had to compete in the adult world! And that's the exact demographic which they are targeting! This is Alien for teens! We won't have to wait long for it to hit a streaming service. The audience for Fede's other films were mostly teens, it'll be the same for Romulus.

Do you wanna make a good ALIENS film, bring back James Cameron, Sigourney Weaver and Michael Bean. Young with CGI and make it after aliens. Alien three never existed. None of the alien films existed After aliens. Bring back Carrie hen. somehow figure out a way to incorporate her in the film, and perhaps make world war alien. Bring back the space marines, perhaps go back to earth and the aliens have invaded. Perhaps go to the alien home world. There’s lots they could do but instead they keep bringing out the same old bullshit

I wouldn't get your hopes up too far. "Psychological horror" could mean two of the main characters aren't far left progressives and by "body horror" could be a crew member had their gender reassignment surgery canceled. How many times have we seen a trailer for a new movie attached to a beloved franchise that promises "a return to form but with a new twist and new elements...old fans will be pleasantly surprised but updated for today's more contemporary audiences" only to have our hopes dashed against the rocks like a second place cliff diver (first place is gold medal, second place is extracted from the rocks with a shop vac)? Can Hollywood make great movies today. Yes, I believe they can. Will they? That all depends on the mood they're in when they decided to start throwing money when filming starts. Hollywood likes mountains of cash but what they seem to like more than money is virtue signaling from on high, telling the audience how terrible we are and shoving "the message, the message, the message" in our faces. So, my warning to everybody is this: send a trusted sacrificial lamb to watch this on opening day. If he comes out of the theater wanting to avoid being alone in the dark... buy yourself a ticket. If he says something along the lines of "eh, it was all right, had some good parts BUT ________"...maybe wait until it's available for home viewing.
