Always gets on my last nerve when wannabe music critics knock someone for covering a signature song. This is NOT about Alicia trying to compete or out-sing Amy...it’s simply about one beautifully talented artist paying respect & tribute to another.

Not really because both of them are doing Soul music. What’s make differences is more their voice’s tone and the vocal technic. Whereas Amy got more a motown technic and vibe really deepened in the 50/60´sound, Alicia is more in the soft Soul and Neo Soul sound that’s more fiting with her voice. I really love both of them, I think they are both great !

@@hsmith1180 .... Thanks, I did read that (back then 9 yrs. ago). I was never a Amy fan in particular, but she even managed to polish up what the original was missing and make a hit out of it. Alicia is simply New York Gold IMO. However if you are a Zuton fan please enjoy further. We all need our own corner to feel happy. 😉

Alicia is far classier and not in the news for the wrong things, so for this alone she is superior. Amy gave this song (which wasn't hers) a fun upbeat tempo.

These children played their hearts out an played "Valerie" right on time, extremely well. With much verve and vibe. I loved their rendition!!!!!

Amy would probably have loved, like most people. Alicia is still a very skilled singer. But I don't think many can go and play in Amy's playground. Even massively talented, her song suited the way she felt and the way she connect with music. Playing with the rythm, changing notes, just gently surfin on her music. I don't think many can copy that(although there is...probably)

I love that a song like this is still being played. It is an honor to Amy, but agree no one can ever do it like her.

I'm happy it's Alicia keeping this song rolling in the schools. RIP Amy

Music education and promotion of the arts is so important. I'm s former English teacher and now substitute teacher. I hate seeing such important cultural parts that help to us all feel human go due to funding issues. LOVE THIS!

The original song was written by a group from Liverpool UK called The Zutons who released the song in 2006 which was a big hit all over Europe. Ami recorded it in 2007.

Sorry but Amy ruined this song for other artists to cover. She made it her own and anyone else who sings it sounds like an amateur. Thanks Zutons, thanks Amy we miss your heart touching talent.

I love Alicias voice, one of my all time favorites I think it is just beautiful. That being said, I agree that she isn't the most technically gifted vocalists, she doesnt have a range or clarity of a lot of artists especially the greats like Aretha or Etta. But she does have a ton of soul and just the right tone to me think it is great
